So here we are- they have a suspect.
The very little we know about his politics suggests he was likely to be right wing, and came from a family/ culture that supported Trump. He also is said to be an introvert, in to video games , and possibly quite mentally unwell.

So there we have it- fancy that - when you live in a context where people have access to guns and some minority of people are not well, people get shot.

Nothing to do with the evils of the “left”. Nothing to do with trans people or “trans ideology”. Just senseless violence, because people who are not well have access to guns.

So what are we going to take/ learn from this?

Are you reading my posts or just reacting to them?

I didn’t say having republican parents meant he was right wing. I said we knew very little about his political beliefs but the only facts we have suggest he is likely to be right wing and that he comes from a republican family/ culture .

This is true.

Edited

That means nothing, the family he came from.
People have their own political leanings irrespective of their family.
It could suggest he was right leaning but you have started the post because you want it to be so.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/09/2025 16:02

Does Elon Musk’s trans son share his dad’s politics, @Tandora? It’s quite common for children, teens and young adults to rebel against their parents’ views, no?

Pepperedpickles · 13/09/2025 20:50

Have you even read the news about it? His family was republican. He was not. He was left wing. The bullets had inscriptions on them which were anti fascist. I hated CK but if you’re going to get involved in the news about it all at least read the news / watch the news. It’s been all over the media.

Actually, that nonsense has been debunked. How big do you think a bullet is? Someone engraved entire sentences on one? 🤣 The bullets were engraved with letters from the manufacturer, which the right tried so hard to connect to trans it was beyond idiotic. Any way not to say that this was one of theirs bc it's always one of theirs.

Also, if people are claiming that someone is left wing bc they are anti fascists, that, by definition makes the right fascists. I mean, anybody with a brain already knows that but watching them tie themselves in knots is oh so hilarious.

No.

We ??
The UK did learn after Dunblane. The USA will never learn and people will continue to die because of their gun laws. You can’t fix stupid!

He highly values the second amendment as a protection against tyrannical governments (which you might disagree is a threat, but he clearly does), and makes the analogy with banning driving, i.e. that the benefits might outweigh the costs even if the costs are not zero. Children die in car crashes all the time. He is arguing against appeals to emotion like "if it saves ONE life it's worth it..."

In the same quote he goes on to suggest ways to minimise gun deaths in school shootings, by having more security guards in schools. He clearly isn't cavalierly wanting kids to die, he is just weighting relative threats differently from you.

I'm not American so I don't really see a few household guns as being that helpful against the US military... but I can comprehend his position.

Yes I understand the point he was making (but thank you for mansplaining it to me ).

I disagree with it entirely. I do not think that one single murder of children in schools is “worth it” to protect his right to have a gun- let alone murder on the scale that happens in the USA.

CK did. So according to his own values/ opinion his own death was “worth it” for the second amendment , and we should not be “emotionally hijacked” by narratives about his grieving children. This is not how I see things but we should be very clear it’s how CK himself did.

You're expecting an apology after repeatedly ripping words out of context and using them to whitewash your own behaviour? 🙄

So you disagree about empathy vs sympathy - how does that justify cherry-picking a quote to imply that he was being callous?

And oddly enough, your direct quote has a bit missing as well:

"And, of course, our hearts go out to the victims in Kentucky for every one of these situations. But we cannot allow them to emotionally hijack the narrative."

FWIW I disagree with him about guns, but he's right about appeals to emotion when it comes to making policy, and NOT in the way you are misusing it to justify your callousness towards a murder victim.

It's very obvious what you're doing and it's a shoddy way to behave in the wake of a death like this.

What are you talking about . I quoted his exact words, as they were meant , in their precise context. There was nothing “cherry picking” about. Charlie said that the deaths of children in school were “worth it” to protect his right to own a gun, and that we mustn’t let victims of mass shootings “emotionally hijack the narrative”. This is what he said. I don’t know why you are seeking to justify or minimise this- it was dangerous and wrong.

In terms of my own feelings on the matter- I do not believe that homocide is ever justified (whether committed by the State or by private individuals): I do not support what happened to CK. But do I have strong feelings of empathy or sympathy for him? I can’t say that I do. He advocated for a dangerous policy, which creates the conditions for gun murders, he argued that these murders are “worth it” and that we shouldn’t be “emotionally hijacked” by empathy for victims into thinking/ believing/ be persuaded otherwise. So do I have lots of feelings of sympathy for CK? No. Nor do I believe that I should be required to. It is hypocritical and dishonest to require this.

When it comes to his children, however, my heart does hurt for them. Especially his 3 year old daughter who no doubt will feel the sudden loss of her father most acutely. The children are innocent in this. CK was not.

Are you posting about police office Rose a black man killed defending a federal building this week. Why should only Charlie get the limelight?

Charlie Kirk was fascist scum.

I abhor political violence it does no good unless you want to kill your political rivals to become like Putin et al.

Neither does martrying the human equivalent of a piece of shit and talking about him ad nauseum. His death hasn't made his life any more palatable.

He deserves to be relegated to the annals of history and his wife is already taking up the baton of oppressing others to make money.

Least said, soonest mended where Charlie is concerned

You are a disgrace.

Martharian · 14/09/2025 16:21

There is a difference between “emotionally hijacking” a conversation about what policy should be and people saying that it’s repellent to celebrate the murder of someone.

If there was a group of people saying that as a result of his death, guns should be restricted or people had to carry ID cards around with them at all times or that groups of large crowds shouldn’t be allowed to gather any more for their safety, you could probably argue that it’s being “emotionally hijacked” by his death but what people are objecting to are the joyfully reactions to his being murdered.

Hope that helps, place.
