So very many of these pictures show very clearly that money does not equal taste 😂

Everyone has their own taste, including you. If your kitchen makes you happy then that is all that matters. My kitchen is horrible and was probably done in the early 80s. I would love any one of the kitchens posted here (except the one that needs a bit of a wipe, although the cupboard style looks depressingly similar 😄). Please could you show us your kitchen for inspiration.

I have a thread on here somewhere showing the whole project from scratch. We bought a house two years ago that needed to be renovated from top to bottom. We also added a modular extension and built an annexe.

It’s still a work in progress. We still don’t have a painted ceiling or flooring down but hopefully this month!!

This is where we started and how far we’ve got. I don’t have any tidy photos, so that will please PP 😂😂 You can even see boxes of building supplies lying around 🫣 We still haven’t unpacked other than the kids’ rooms. There are boxes bloody everywhere.

We were determined to have a light, sage green colour but at the very last minute swapped to dark blue - no idea why but I love it! We are south-facing so it’s really light and can take the darker colours.

Love the way you've used warm colours with dark blue cabinets, it's very inviting.

These are all beautiful kitchens … have you all spent hours cleaning before posting 😆
I am away from home but my kitchen bench holds the detritus of the day.

I used the one from when we first moved in. This is more representative of how it usually looks😂

@HairyToitygiven the latest posts hating on perfect kitchens I probably should clarify we purchased through London based Kitchen Exchange in 2016.
A developer in Hampstead Heath put this £100k kitchen in a house which sold for 6 million, the American buyers purchased for the location not the property so immediately and remotely applied to demolish.

It’s by Poggenpohl with 7 Gaggenau appliances still with their 5 year warranty, we only paid £25k for it and obviously had to carefully remove it from London and drive it home to Cheshire in numerous trips.

I made the whole thing to scale in cardboard to check it would work first, the fitting isn’t perfect as we had to flip the whole thing left to right to accommodate our layout and then source or make different end panels to finish.

Even though I didn’t have the luxury of choosing or designing it for our needs I still appreciate the beautiful quality every day and being so large it’s relatively easy to keep tidy.

This is genius, and you would never guess it hadn’t been designed for the space. And nice to know you saved all that amazing stuff from being tipped, as well as bagging a giant bargain.

ReductionHob · 13/09/2025 09:45

Ours was just finished last week, DD chose the sage green units. Walls and ceilings not yet painted as I haven't the time (will be going for something with a hint of plaster pink).

It looks tidy because:

  • Took these pics before we moved all our crap back into it
  • I specifically told the designer I want to see almost nothing on the counters, so we have tons of cupboards and drawers.

The black wall at the end is painted with magnetic blackboard paint, a remnant from our old kitchen, we will be keeping it (needs to be touched up and the radiator painted) because it's where we write our shopping list.

Mines all white and a total mess right now so no photo.

Imagine white then add white, finish off with white then pop in some white and you've got my kitchen. Boring as fuck.

I loved it for about a year. Now I feel like it's a laboratory clean room or something.

Nannyfannybanny · 13/09/2025 09:49

Bilbo dog that is gorgeous. I'm not looking any more. I've gone a funny shade of green! Mine is 7x9feet, open plan at the end of the living room. 1960s bungalow, therefore normally kept immaculate. However DH picked the cabbages, tomatoes yesterday and they're all over the place. We got a plan from b and q in-store on the pc from our measurements, designers put oven door on the left by the sink, wouldn't have worked and wouldn't have been able to use the corner. Independent kitchen company local, who put cooker one side, sink the other, dangerous as it's a walk through to conservatory and dining table. Third Wickes, bloke came out. We did change one thing, showed him where the water main was ,he forgot that,we did buy the kitchen from them,DH fitted it, and used a plinth to make an infill by the only drawer cupboard magnetic to the back, so you just push it and it comes off if you need access. I might be able to post a picture of the design. I have a 7 mtr conservatory which makes up for it.

Mine is green and simple, we have limited space but also a baby so added a table in the middle of the room, so we can all eat together. The bannister/posts are now also sage green but haven't got a photo of this.

Just to point, in case people haven't noticed it, to the photobomber in this pic 😄

Are only people with massive kitchens responding to this or does all of Mumsnet have huge, fancy kitchens?!

Just what I thought lol.
Mine is a tiny galley kitchen and totally needs a makeover but I really don’t care.
I have facilities to cook and wash up and that’s all I need.

B1anche · 13/09/2025 06:12

Ours is cream walls and sage cupboards, but could do with a quick wipe.

It is bespoke, hand crafted and we had numerous meetings with the designer to ensure that it meets the needs of our family.

It really is the beating heart of our home ❤️

We’ve almost finished our light green kitchen. It’s Dakar from DIY kitchens. The builder thought it was grey but in most lights it’s green in our north facing kitchen. It’s never this tidy, the island was covered in clutter again 1 hour after taking photos 🙄. Appliances hidden in a cupboard.

It’s lovely.

Unsure why this has been marked as a sensitive image, it's just a kitchen?!

This is lovely.

Obviously only the people with pristine kitchens are posting photos! Mine is 25 years old. Doors are falling off etc. We’ve been saving to replace it for 8 years, since we moved in. Finally got enough money together and will be doing it early next year.

I'm impressed by how many of you have an elegant vase of flowers in your kitchen!

Curiousity1 · 13/09/2025 10:31

I love all the pictures of kitchens! You have beautiful homes.

I have a dilemma. We bought a house last year and loved the kitchen. Objectively, we think it’s better designed than our own interior design choices would have led us to.

Then we had a fire and have had to move out of the house for at least 6 months. Sad times 😕

It does mean, however, that we can redesign the kitchen from scratch. We’ve met the kitchen designer who installed it previously and looked at lots of different choices but we’re thinking of reinstating the kitchen as it was. We will change some things—slightly bigger island, oak effect tiled floors instead of grey, a few better fitted features like spice rack and chopping board rack, new appliances, but essentially it will be the same cabinetry and colour.

Looking at design advice, a lot of people advise neutral cabinetry and shaker styles as having the most longevity, but I feel I love the colours, they give me joy, and can always be repainted if I wanted cream later…

After lots of mulling about door styles, I think we will stick with the flat handle-less oak cabinetry, so it’s really about colours that I’m struggling. I’d welcome thoughts on whether others like it too, or whether it is very individual taste and I would be crazy to not change it to neutral palettes when I have the choice!
