I am glad you said that..where are everyone's belongings..our sides always cluttered:(

Our kitchen has just been finished so got lots of pics before we started living in it properly 😃

What beautiful kitchens, mine is in a right state, very clean though! Had a new sink put in and am going to get it decorated. No way that I can afford to replace it and I am glad I chose white units with plain flat doors that have not dated. However the doors are looking scruffy and I was thinking about just replacing them but I come out in a cold sweat at the thought of measuring and getting it wrong. Some of the replacment doors websites seem as pricey as getting a budget kitchen . Then I think about painting the doors and watch YouTube vidoes and it all looks a piece of piss and so simple with great results but I can imagine doing it all wrong and having to live with my kitchen looking even worse. So I sit there paralysed with indecision. Loving the thread and hope it inspires me to do something

Look at my pics, I painted my cupboards. Really easy to do with no prior experience. You can get the paint tinted to whatever colour you like. Mine was painted for 10 years before I replaced it and the paint was like new when the cupboards came out. Go for it!

Maybe don't do what I did though. Desperately wanted the peach kitchen gone. No worries, paint it as that was what I could afford at the time - it was about $200 to do bench and cupboards. But if I paint the kitchen, it's open plan kitchen, dining, lounge. The kitchen will clash with the walls, so I have to paint those too. Then there's the hallway, so I'll have to paint that. Then the bathroom door is always open, so need to do that. If I'm doing all that, may as well do the two bedrooms so it's all fresh. The ceilings are pretty aged, so better do them too. Well, if I paint, the yellowed power points and light switches will ruin it, so better get them replaced. The lights and ceiling fans need to be replaced as well as they're pretty bad / controls have been broken and can't be replaced. Plus the lounge room didn't actually have a ceiling light, may as well change that fan to one with a light...

I painted it all myself over 4 weeks and it still looks fantastic. But yeah, the $200 to paint the kitchen grew a little by the end!

Mine is green and simple, we have limited space but also a baby so added a table in the middle of the room, so we can all eat together. The bannister/posts are now also sage green but haven't got a photo of this.

Is that a real cat ?

Mine

That's an amazing space! What on earth do you find to put behind all those doors?

RightOnTheEdge · 13/09/2025 23:56

@LibertyLily have you posted photos of your old kitchen before? I think I remember it because I loved it. Gorgeous colours and it just looks like a happy, lovely room.

Omg all of these kitchens are so tidy and spotless! Do people really have so little on their worktops!?

I was thinking the same and wouldn't dare post a pic of ours. We have a big island which is constantly covered in clutter !
A lot of them also look so sterile, does no-one have any bright crockery/ teapots/ mixer on show. Is it all hidden away ? Maybe we are just the minority but these homes are nothing like the vast majority of kitchens I see !

icelolly99 · 13/09/2025 22:13

@TeenLifeMum this is the kitchen I want 😍 where is it from please?

It’s from a local kitchen shop in South Somerset. It’s painted wood rather than veneer and I absolutely love it. Fitters and plasterer were an absolute nightmare but it was done in 2022 and it’s exactly what I wanted. Utility is the same but with a butler's sink and shower attachment to the tap for bathing the dog… but the dog prefers a bucket of water in the garden 🙄😂

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 14/09/2025 00:38

@Harriet9955 My friend has only taken two lots of photos of her kitchen. One lot the day before the old kitchen was ripped out, and one lot the day after the new kitchen was put in.

It now looks like a shit tip again but too late, no more photos 😆. But it is full of the stuff you mean, teapot, photos, tablecloth, etc.

buffyfaithfredwesley · 14/09/2025 01:14

Mine is about 29 years old and functional. I want to get the cabinets sprayed and replace the flooring but it’s a decent size for an apartment

Am not sure how interested the OP really is, given that after 16 pages there is no response from them!

My kitchen is small with a few odd angles. Previous owners had kitchen units made by a local joinery firm. It’s coming up to 20 years old now, but still in good condition and no point trying to redo as what is there suits the layout.

What works for me is a neutral colour on the walls. This means that I have been able to repaint the cabinet colours twice since living here, which feels like a new kitchen each time. Last colour change was 5 years ago, so may think about it again in a couple of years. Haven’t done so yet, but may replace handles next time.

If you have a good base with your kitchen, it can definitely work for quite a long time.

Silly question but in Australia I've never seen a washing machine in a kitchen before - is that normal? I'd say here we nearly all have laundry rooms for that. Loving all your beautiful pictures though and I dream daily of having an Aga but they close so much here!

Fairly normal in the UK. It’s, relatively speaking, a small island so the footprint of houses is averagely not huge!

If you’re lucky, you’ll have a utility room for washer/dryer, but majority of homes will have washing machine in the kitchen.

celebrityskin · 14/09/2025 06:36

Or cupboards are light green/grey (Deluxe Heritage Stone green ) with pink tiles

I'm having my bathroom done and have a decent sized cupboard in there, I'm putting my washing machine and dryer in there, I'm ridiculously excited! Makes sense as most of the washing comes from upstairs and belongs back upstairs (no room for a utility)

bapples1 · 13/09/2025 11:16

@ReductionHob can I ask where your flooring is from? Lovely kitchen.

Hi @bapples1 sorry I was out all day! The floor is LVT planks in ‘oak’ but I don’t know the brand unfortunately. We chose them from the display in the kitchen showroom (local company that did the whole thing for us).

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 14/09/2025 07:32

@ErinBell01under the sink is a water boiler for the boiling water tap plus a few cleaning bits/tea and hand towel, the 2 tall very end ones are pantry cupboards with cereal/rice/pasta/tins etc, next to each oven are built in fridge/freezers, the rest are more food bits/toaster/slow cooker/pans etc.
The drawers have baking trays/more cleaning bits/towels/cling fils etc.
I try to have as little as possible out on the sides.

This is mine after we had just had all the doors replaced, new tiles and a general freshen up. The colour is French Grey I think but it definitely has a green hue. I bloody love it. We have a dining table the other side of the breakfast bar. And the counter tops are much more cluttered now 😂

@BigCheesey
I really love your kitchen. It's big and spacious but without being toooo big. I feel inspired! Please could you tell me what your kitchen length and width measurements are?

Yope · 14/09/2025 07:50

bilbodog · 12/09/2025 16:19

Recently had mine done in pale yellow and green

@bilbodog please could you tell me what your kitchen dimensions are - the width and then length? I think my kitchen may be similarly sized although im not sure, but if it is then I'd love to take inspiration from you!

Yope · 14/09/2025 07:56

WeWillLookBack · 13/09/2025 06:36

Top tip: when you take the dresser out to redo the floors, remember it exists before you mark up where the lights should go. Nothing says ‘I planned this’ quite like sheepishly calling the electricians back out because you forgot the dresser was coming back… and then confidently telling everyone four lights was always the vision.

@WeWillLookBack
I really love your floor. Is it the original floorboards or have you had them laid? And what have you treated the boards with? It looks so much nicer than glossy varnish, so I'm interested to know what you've used here. Looks gorgeous!

Open plan period house. This used to be a ‘gully’ kitchen which has been opened up. The kitchen’s from Ikea and about 20 years old. I have zero funds to do it up atm but will paint the cabinets a lovely pink colour at some point!

This is beautiful. The colours are so soothing.

I have a thread on here somewhere showing the whole project from scratch. We bought a house two years ago that needed to be renovated from top to bottom. We also added a modular extension and built an annexe.

It’s still a work in progress. We still don’t have a painted ceiling or flooring down but hopefully this month!!

This is where we started and how far we’ve got. I don’t have any tidy photos, so that will please PP 😂😂 You can even see boxes of building supplies lying around 🫣 We still haven’t unpacked other than the kids’ rooms. There are boxes bloody everywhere.

We were determined to have a light, sage green colour but at the very last minute swapped to dark blue - no idea why but I love it! We are south-facing so it’s really light and can take the darker colours.

@SpidersAreShitheads
I remember your thread so well - I was following it closely!
Is there any chance you could give me an update?!
We still haven't had an extension due to the exorbitant rise in building materials. I feel cursed that the exact time we'd saved enough money to finally pay for one after 10 years of saving up, prices doubled (SE) and we were priced out.
So I started looking at modular extensions in the hope that material costs and the labour (due to it being quicker to build) might be lower, but I'm finding it unbelievably difficult to find much information online about modular extensions. There seems to be a dearth of info. I can't even find a company in the SE that does them.
Is yours a success?
And in your opinion, has it cost less than a traditional build extension?
I only need 5 metres by 2 metres and am being quoted £45,000 to £60,000 by all sorts of different builders! For 5 x 2 metres!!!

My really small neutral kitchen. Some beautiful kitchens on here though

This one is the first one I actually really like

I'm actually in the middle of decorating mine from green to pink, hence the mess. I don't expect others to like my kitchen as it's not the norm but I'm not either.

Actually I REALLY like this one!!!! Love it!!!!!

The trend in newer UK homes is to have a separate utility with washer/drier and additional storage now.
