Just that really? I hadn’t and wondering if I’m the only one. And why is it such a big story? I guess the association with trump. What would be the equivalent level of fame over here?

Yes indeed.

It's like saying Hitler never actually shoved people into gas chambers with his own hands. Still didn't make him a nice guy.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many Hitler comparisons on the one day. It’s been non stop.

Lazy, tedious and, quite frankly, embarrassing.

Comapring Charlie Kirk to Hitler is really scraping the barrel.

MrsBlobby64 · 11/09/2025 23:08

Yes from Instagram unfortunately - he had some vile views IMO

No we’re not but we don’t go around saying that some deaths are the price to be paid for the freedom to carry arms either.

But that's true though isn't it? We accept that freedom comes at a price and some people die so that others can have it. If you believe that no nation should have an armed government but an unarmed population, then obviously you know that comes with risks. If you believe that gun deaths are not a price worth paying for freedom to arm yourselves then you know you've conceded some freedom for wider safety.

Also, the leftie maniac that took this man's life has caused unnecessary, horrific trauma to not only his two innocent children but also to billions of children across the world that will have seen the footage.

Well done mate, what a hero you are.

Edited

Billions - BILLIONS?? - of children around the world have seen the footage?

😳

I'd heard the name but dc4 has just finished a degree linked to international politics so knew lots more than me. Like others have said, his politics were the absolute opposite of mine and he held many shocking views but I'm still sad he's died. No-one has the right to take someone else's life. He was a human being, a father and a husband.

Gotta remember what he said about empathy though ;)

we’re just following his wishes and example really.

he went out doing what he loved (participating in inane debates with unprepared 18 years olds), by a means that he deeply believed in. (Guns)

MaidOfSteel · 11/09/2025 23:10

I’d never heard of him. I’m sorry for his family, but I don’t have any idea what he did.

BruceAndNosh · 11/09/2025 23:10

I'm in my 60s and I'd heard of him.
Didn't agree with his political views but admit he expressed them coherently.

Sorrelbird · 11/09/2025 23:10

No, and neither had my 19 year old DD

I don’t believe that anyone has to die so that others can have freedom. I don’t really understand what you mean.

OR is it comparing an apple to someone who has a similar ideology to an apple

AdoraBell · 11/09/2025 23:12

Yes

I was not comparing him to Hitler.

I was saying people giving him a free pass because he was only 'expressing an opinion' would be comparing him to Hitler because Hitler 'never put anyone in a gas chamber'.
2 entirely different things.

Why do you feel sorry for his family? He had no empathy for other families. His wife married him knowing how 'flawed' he was. He was going to bring up his children to be as unpleasant as he was

MeTooOverHere · 11/09/2025 23:14

WaverleyOwl · 11/09/2025 22:53

I'm almost 50, and yes, I'd seen him and been impressed by his calm willingness to debate.
I'm actually really upset about his assassination and a few FB friends are showing their true colours (he deserved it for his views).

I don't think he deserved it for his views but I do think his views enabled it to happen. Esp his views on gun rights and how a few gun deaths would be inconvenient.
He outraged a lot of people with his views and I can well see how in a society like USA someone would use a gun to blow back at him.

BadgesforBadgers · 11/09/2025 23:17

JudithDunbar · 11/09/2025 22:01

Yes I first came across him a couple of years ago. He was just so decent, that is why he stood out in this depraved era.

Holy christ...

You must be....well I don't know.

He was a nasty piece of work, the worse of us and even more evil for trying to convert the gullible into sharing his abhorrent views.

TurquoiseDress · 11/09/2025 23:17

I hadn’t heard of him but my DH has & had seen a few videos of him speaking

Shocking what happened, he’s got a wife & very young children Sad

Claim:
Turning Point USA CEO and co-founder Charlie Kirk once said, "I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage."

Kirk's remarks, delivered during an episode of "The Charlie Kirk Show" on Oct. 12, 2022, also included him saying he thought of empathy as "very effective when it comes to politics" and that he preferred sympathy over empathy.

CurlewKate · 11/09/2025 23:19

Of course. I don’t live under a rock.

Blinky21 · 11/09/2025 23:21

Yes, his views were abhorrent

ToWhitToWhoo · 11/09/2025 23:22

theDudesmummy · 11/09/2025 22:32

@ToWhitToWhoo That is the opposite of what I said.

I know; I was agreeing with you!

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 11/09/2025 23:22

Yes - his reels are pretty prominent on Facebook.

Jamesblonde2 · 11/09/2025 23:23

I had and viewed videos on Insta. He was a very articulate man and always polite to some agitated people.

autumnskyes · 11/09/2025 23:25

Nope, never heard of him until now. Not surprised though as I usually avoid online political stuff, find it all too toxic with the left vs right stuff and everyone seems so extreme and reductive- "oh you you think X, therefore you also think Y and are a stupid leftie/evil right winger." I'm just in the middle here, agree with some of this, some of that - I feel that is how in 'real life' most people are. Anyway reading about it all just reminds me why I avoid it usually!

Nasty? Evil? Abhorrent?
Are you getting mixed up with his murderer?
