Children having their own seat on a packed train.

I am on a packed train. A child who is about 3 years old is sat in their own seat and not on the parents lap, would you ask to sit down and the child sits on parents lap? People were standing.
Thank you

Depends on length of journey and seat layout too. I’d struggle to fit a child on my lap whilst next to another person. With bags etc and then try to reach toys, drinks, snacks etc to keep them entertained. For everyone’s sanity it’s better the child has space.

Why don't you just talk to them about stuff you can see out of the window? Entertaining and doesn't involve annoying toys (which most of them are now).

Because that only works for so long with some children, especially if we're talking about long train journeys.

Seriously?! How much can you see out the windows when trains are going fast?!

I don’t remember taking any annoying toys?! Usually drawing or some little figures. But often something will get dropped or they’ll argue over pens….and with a three year old on lap with a few bags, hot and stuffy - no thanks.

but please go ahead and chat to all the kids about the blurs out the window.

No, I'm stating that it's not easier for the child or the parent to give the child's seat to another adult.
There's some really, really weird perspectives and comments on this thread.

Given the context of the post you were replying to, it’s not an impossible (or ‘weird’) assumption to make.

I don’t think small children should give up seats for able bodied adults. In fact I would expect my teenagers to give up their seat for a small child on the tube, etc - obviously I would too.

This. Small children are less steady on their feet. I don’t see why a small child should not have a seat?

Finally!
Just to clarify, I understand the points you think* *you're making. I just don't agree.
Tschüss. ✌️

Nice use of stars.

(You don't agree that having a small child sitting on your lap is more comfortable than having a grown adult sitting on your lap? okaaaaay.)
