In the queue for the post office and a woman in front of me (take note we very squished up together) opened up her banking app. and my heart sank, she had 4 accounts...800ish, 2kish, 1kish and 10kish. I have one account with 178quid til pay day at the end of the month, and i need to buy food and pay a bill. I know i was unreasonable for looking, I looked away as soon as I could, but my heart died a little. I'll never have that kind of money. Such a different world we live in...

I don’t think that’s loads? My son saw a teachers bank acc at school not even sure how but he said it was on the background of the computer and it had 200k in 🥲

@MonsterBoo, are you sure this wasnt the photocopying budget/deficit 🤣. Ours comes up when you log in and I have told the kids that it's my debt ..

Yes, that £500 in 10 years time will be so useful.

@Dovetail22uk2 came on today this.

some of the posts on here are utterly tone deaf.

What should she do next?

According to MN taking in ironing is the quickest way to become a gazillionaire.

These are not large amounts of money, could soon be wiped out if she has her own home or own car. But as many have said just keep saving a little on a regular basis, £15 per week is £780 per year. May need to skip the coffee's or meal deals or other small treats, but it can be done - BUT only if you start.

You aren't on much at all, 18k a year if you are single with a child or children means you'll be scraping by, really, and probably can't save.

However I wouldn't say this is it for you forever! Once your child/children are 16+ you can move or possibly (ideally) commute to a larger city where social care jobs are paying 28/30k a year and you do not need qualifications. You also get qualifications whilst on the job and can move up the ladder.

It definitely is possible for you to have more one day.
