Anti immigration and England being 'racist'

AngryBird6122 · 10/09/2025 10:59

Do people know that this is not just a UK thing? I see so many people saying they are ashamed to be british etc but this is happening the world over. And it can work both ways! I have close family in Japan and there are protests there too and they are being treated very differently - yes, white english! The right are gaining traction there too. Are the Japanese allowed to be proud of their country and fly their flags? What's people's thoughts on this?

You’re not serious are you? Because this stuff is taught in schools. Like I said, start with Ireland, then look up partition (India, Pakistan and Bangladesh), the treaty of Lausanne that led to further destabilisation of the Middle East, apartheid, the Iraq “war” etc etc.

I would not imagine that that poster paid any attention in school, or subsequently.

It’s pretty absurd to say there is not a huge demographic change in the U.K. due to immigration.

It would be pretty absurd to say that there haven’t been huge demographic, geographic, political, economical and cultural changes to many, many countries around the world due to the UK invading or destabilising them. What’s your point?

Portakalkedi · 10/09/2025 22:48

I don't get all this vitriol and shouting 'racist' at those putting up flags. Xenophobia might be a better word. Which race do you all think they are objecting to? And why aren't there as many threads about the actual racism seen daily towards Jewish people?

ThatWaryOchreQuoter · 10/09/2025 22:49

KatSlayMoon · 10/09/2025 22:45

I don’t even know what this means. Are you trying to be sarcastic?

It means that your argument for mass immigration is basically as a punishment for the U.K. That’s not really going to be an easy sell now we have political parties who are genuinely looking to put a stop to it.

It’s ridiculous. I once made the same point about the UK’s actions in Ireland on another thread and a poster “joked” that the Irish seem to be pretty happy about things now. The absurdity and downright arrogance is shocking.

Why do you view it as a punishment? What is the issue with immigration? I mean the UK basically set the system up and everyone seemed to be pretty pleased with it until about 70 years ago. Everyone in the UK that is.

My point is immigration is having a negative effect on the country and it should (most likely will) be stopped, the U.K. should also disband the East India tea company and stop colonising countries.

You don’t get to decide what other people deem to be racist I’m afraid. A lot of people (myself included) deem the current upsurge in the flags to be racist because they did not happen in a vacuum did they? They happened as a direct result of those protests and are usually accompanied by racist chants.

I can’t stand this faux ignorance about the messaging behind those flags. If it was anything but racism then they would be up all the time wouldn’t they? They wouldn’t just come out in times like this.

I am serious. Are there millions of people in Ireland suffering?

Well maybe once the UK stops dropping bombs immigration will slow down? When is that going to stop? The dropping of bombs I mean. Over and over and over again. Throughout the world.

Immigration isn’t easy. Leaving your homeland isn’t easy. Leaving behind everything you have ever known isn’t easy. As I’m sure all the “expats” that live in Spain and Portugal and open “English” pubs and don’t bother to learn the language can surely attest.

I really can’t help this level of wilful ignorance. You’ll have to do the research for yourself.

LOL I’m not going to find millions of people suffering in Ireland, I probably could find millions of people against mass third world immigration there though.

I don’t see it as a punishment. I see it as a consequence. To see it as a punishment I would have to view immigration as a negative thing, which I don’t. It is simply a consequence of the UK’s continued foreign policy.

So it’s U.K. currently dropping bombs now causing it, not just colonialism? This is fascinating stuff.

@crackofdoom your link doesn't answer my question

Which is, how is it that you think you know about the criminal records of people involved in protests?

If they went to school in England I doubt that they spent much time on much colonial history. I once had an English friend sum up the Irish man-made ( British made) famines with ‘they were mad about potatoes, then the blight came, so sad’.
She was genuinely surprised to hear the truth.

It’s taught as history in the U.K. rather than a Disneyfied national myth of oppression and rebellion and goodies and baddies. Those often calling others ignorant and intolerant might be a tad hypocritical and not often have a full grasp of the ‘truth’ themselves.
There is no justification for the levels of immigration into the U.K. as a punishment for events 100s of years ago.

A consequence rather than a punishment, all of us alive today aren't responsible for what our ancestors have done but every action has a consequence

what does it matter what I think? Consequences are the result of an action, the only way to avoid it is to not carry out the action in the first place, when you carry out an act you don't get to decide what the reaction to it will be

That’s not true. We have voting for a start and policy.

I am interested in what you think is inevitable, can you describe what you see happening as the consequences?

Mass immigration isn’t the result of colonialism. At least we moved on from pretending it’s beneficial in some way.
