Anti immigration and England being 'racist'

AngryBird6122 · 10/09/2025 10:59

Do people know that this is not just a UK thing? I see so many people saying they are ashamed to be british etc but this is happening the world over. And it can work both ways! I have close family in Japan and there are protests there too and they are being treated very differently - yes, white english! The right are gaining traction there too. Are the Japanese allowed to be proud of their country and fly their flags? What's people's thoughts on this?

I really can’t help this level of wilful ignorance. You’ll have to do the research for yourself.

You come across as really disapproving of England and English history. And if you can’t produce evidence then you have no argument, you are just shouting about the bad English.

You are aware that England does not exist and never has existed in a vacuum either? That England’s relationship with Ireland is quite different from its relationship with France or India or the Middle East?

Countries fight a lot. There may be countries which don’t get into wars - although the fact that there are two World Wars named in 20thc history suggests you may have a hard time finding one. Good luck with it nonetheless.

What exactly is the problem with me coming across as really disapproving of England and English history? Why does that bother you if that is your perception?

None at all. You can hate on England and the English all you like. That’s what freedom of belief and expression are all about.

So what was your point then?

Oh no you don’t get out of it that easily I’m afraid, the rest of your post has no bearing on why you perceive it to be an issue if I am indeed disapproving of England and English history. Why is that an issue in your eyes?

Switzerland i believe

Switzerland i believe

Ish - Wikipedia claims they sold weapons to both sides in the Iraq/Iran conflict - including chemical weapons - and they did mobilise 850k reservists in case they were invaded by Germany in WW2.

Switzerland’s neutrality is surely partially dictated by geography - all those mountains make it hard to get into (or out of. I imagine an overland invasion would get hammered like a nail.) Similarly GB / UK is surrounded by water so our history is shaped by having a navy and an enthusiasm for trade via shipping.

Lots of people take issue with xenophobia, especially when it’s being used to justify something as wicked as mass immigration. I think it’s fine to have xenophobic rants about events from hundreds of years ago if it makes people feel better about their lives, but surely you understand that people will take issue with it if it’s posted it in a public forum?

Well, quite a few countries involved in the Second World War had been invaded (the majority actually) and were defending themselves. Only Germany, Italy and Japan were looking to make war on other countries.

Same in other wars, like Russia and Ukraine today.

I think it is being driven largely by social media, and it’s really only a small minority of people that want to be confrontational about immigration.

For example, here, we have an hotel that is currently hosting migrants who are causing no trouble at all, and there are zero protests.

In contrast, my DB lives near another hotel in a different area, where the migrants are turfed out of the hotel after breakfast, come rain or shine, and not allowed back in until their evening meal. What are they supposed to do all day?

What they have been doing is gathering in a local park, which, along with nearly all other local parks, has no toilet facilities - so you can imagine what happens when they answer the call of nature!

A few people local to my DB are really angry about this behaviour, but in his (and my) opinion, the anger should be directed at the government agency that has allowed this situation to arise - how can the so-called migrant hotels be allowed to deny their guests (for which they are being paid - handsomely) access to toilet facilities?

This anger has now been spread by racist name-calling social media posts, because people just see the result, and not the cause, of the problem, and as a result, there are regular protests from stupid local and not-so-local people who make assumptions to suit their own internal narrative and act on these.

Unfortunately, it’s these dumba*ses that get media coverage - generating more racist attacks… so in answer to your question, I think the racism, while worrying, is not as bad as you might think…

Thats one part of immigration, there’s also around 8 million people who have immigrated over the last 10 years. Coming on for double the population of Scotland. It’s incredibly reckless.

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 12/09/2025 13:31

OP, Your intro is so random that Yes, it does seem Unreasonable.

What exactly is your AIBU question?!

Yes, I think most people understand that racism is an extremely ugly human trait that can be enountered in many different places and contexts, around the world, and that fascism is on the rise.

Why do they have to be here in the first place though.

hydriotaphia · 12/09/2025 15:36

There have been a lot of articles in the UK press about the worrying rise of the far right and anti immigrant rhetoric in Japan.

Educate yourself if you don't know why people need to leave their countries. War, persecution, lack of jobs , the list is endless...If there was a war here, or you felt under threat because of your sexual orientation or political views , maybe you'd understand too. Maybe you'd try to find a safer place with better prospects. Just maybe.

I am educated thanks. I understand what you are saying but it is excessive and some of them are economic migrants
