I think it is being driven largely by social media, and it’s really only a small minority of people that want to be confrontational about immigration.
For example, here, we have an hotel that is currently hosting migrants who are causing no trouble at all, and there are zero protests.
In contrast, my DB lives near another hotel in a different area, where the migrants are turfed out of the hotel after breakfast, come rain or shine, and not allowed back in until their evening meal. What are they supposed to do all day?
What they have been doing is gathering in a local park, which, along with nearly all other local parks, has no toilet facilities - so you can imagine what happens when they answer the call of nature!
A few people local to my DB are really angry about this behaviour, but in his (and my) opinion, the anger should be directed at the government agency that has allowed this situation to arise - how can the so-called migrant hotels be allowed to deny their guests (for which they are being paid - handsomely) access to toilet facilities?
This anger has now been spread by racist name-calling social media posts, because people just see the result, and not the cause, of the problem, and as a result, there are regular protests from stupid local and not-so-local people who make assumptions to suit their own internal narrative and act on these.
Unfortunately, it’s these dumba*ses that get media coverage - generating more racist attacks… so in answer to your question, I think the racism, while worrying, is not as bad as you might think…
