Anti immigration and England being 'racist'

Do people know that this is not just a UK thing? I see so many people saying they are ashamed to be british etc but this is happening the world over. And it can work both ways! I have close family in Japan and there are protests there too and they are being treated very differently - yes, white english! The right are gaining traction there too. Are the Japanese allowed to be proud of their country and fly their flags? What's people's thoughts on this?

OK, I'll just assume you don't know what you're talking about.

The cultural differences I have noticed between Britain and the other countries I've lived/ travelled in:

We use washing up bowls, rather than just washing dishes in the sink. Inexplicable to most cultures.

We never had in tram/ bus validation of tickets.

Pubs- pretty much unique.

Far more of a snacking culture on trains 🙄

The ubiquity of public footpaths.

These are the only differences I can think of that make Britain uniquely different to anywhere else.

That seems quite short. There are some books that look at the English, Kate Fox’s got a bit of airtime. I haven’t read it though.

This is a new one to me!

There are also areas of the UK where some of the first / second / third generation migrant Muslim population demand absolute tolerance of their beliefs whilst showing zero tolerance for the religions or beliefs held by the native population of the UK

Could you give us examples of some of these areas?

They pulled that out their arse.

Ah, yet another thread simply for the fulfilment of the anti-English xenophobes. Folk who scream 'racist' and yet the irony of their own hatred and prejudice expressed on this thread, is lost on them. 😂🍿

😆

What’s funny?

crackofdoom · 10/09/2025 14:58

Many of the people flying England flags simply have no other way of expressing the how they feel towards things like the rapid increase in assaults on women

Looking at the criminal records of those involved in the Raise the Colours protests, it would appear that an awful lot of them are enthusiastically in favour of assaulting women.

Oh, I thought we were having quite an interesting discussion on British/ English culture! But since you obviously have a keen interest in the subject....how would you define English culture?

I genuinely wonder how the men with DV records, who attend these protests, reconcile the two.

Well yeh it’s obviously related to the questions you’re asking. I know about it as it got a fair bit of coverage.

Going by your questions on what is English culture it seems relevant. You might find it interesting.

There's a difference. The women they assault belong to them / were asking for it. The ones who are a threat to innocent women are identified by skin colour. Simples.

Easy, no one else is going to beat ‘their ‘ women up.

Cyclebabble · 10/09/2025 15:20

I am ethnically Indian. Over the last month, my sister has been spat at, my kids have had go home shouted at them from a car (both born here, both mixed race) and an uncle has had graffiti on his house. We get on with life and are no different to anyone else, but life for us is getting tougher and it is in no way our fault.

I think it makes them feel better about themselves.

I'm really bloody sorry.

So much for protecting women and kids.

That's horrible no one should have to put up with this abuse, unfortunately they seem to be emboldened recently, it's a sad state we're in

@crackofdoom well, perhaps some were, others are not. It's all about perception - a bit like English folk who take pride in seeing their nation's flag displayed in their home nation - for most it is patriotic, for the xenophobes, it's racist.

No, don't mistake my amused observation to be anything more than it is. Given your conclusion upthread: "English culture is a culture of exclusion." I feel no need nor desire to dissuade you from your prejudice as you seem comfortable there.

Btw, I have seen the St George's flag flying in Cornwall. Must be the Grockles and Emmets. 😂 Must say though I've seen more St Piran's flags.

Re-read what you wrote.
Flagshag away, it’s a free country. But racism is racism in any form and the fact that other countries also have people being racist is neither here nor there.

Racism and nationalism are two entirely different things.
Am I proud to be English/British? Yes.
Am I racist? No.
Do I think immigration needs to be controlled? Absolutely.
Do I think British people can be any race/colour/religion? Yes- of course. If you're born here- your'e British and we need to look after our own people - we have an employment and housing crisis that needs sorting before we can take on any more people that don't have the right to be here.
Am I flying a flag? No- I'm not. And actually I'm pretty pissed that far-right people have taken my flag- the one we fly when we win something, or celebrate something and used it for their own agenda.

There's something perverse about a user called FirstNationsEnglish defending the "English" who are absolutely not a "first nation" - if anything more of a "mongrelisation".There's more "first nation" in the Scots, Welsh and Irish than in the English.

Idinnaenah · 10/09/2025 15:41

my lovely friend, born and bred in Sheffield, NHS GP has in the last couple of weeks - been heckled in the street, asked in the Post office queue where she ‘really’ comes from, and told thatb’her lot’ will be in their way out soon.
Shes not white, obvs. Her grandparents immigrated from a commonwealth country here during WW2.
She reckons it’s not been this bad since she was a kid in the 80s.
But sure, all these flags are nothing to do with an uptick in open and casual racism. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.
