Do people really think PIP claimants are fraudsters?!

1000 replies

Greedybilly · 09/09/2025 18:03

As someone with a chronic illness in the middle of claiming PIP I think it's important to point out it's very stressful to go through the process and actually get the benefit.
To those who were inferring it's an easy blag - I would say yes there will always be a few scammers who claim fraudulently ( though god knows how tbh?) the majority have to struggle for years/go through appeals/give up.
Just saying this for balance as I feel MN is turning slghtly into the Daily Fail.

We also get called liars, cheats, spongers and aren't worthy of even the simple pleasures in life according to comments made on this thread. .go on take a look it will fill your cold dark heart with glee.

This level of knuckle dragging ignorance doesn’t even warrant a response to be honest.

I work very closely within the PIP/DLA process with claimants and yes very very many now know what to write on the forms to enable them to guarantee to get the basic rates. There are social media pages that teach this stuff.

Do the social media pages teach them how to magic up the medical evidence needed to back up their forms?

What a truly, truly awful post. MN has reached a new low! Reported

I’m not sure people want the disability that goes with the reasonable adjustments that disabled people have a legal right to.

It’s more clear that there ARE dishonest ppl rinsing the taxpayers than the honest.

Yeah well actually this is true, more people do agree with me look at the stats of this vote....

Being disabled (or having a disabled child) is fucking wonderful.

More people are idiots then as they are factually wrong.

You cannot even keep up with your own lies, as you denied saying the nonsense you said until I quoted you. So it’s a bit ironic you attempting to call others out for dishonesty!

Well there are people who claim fraudulently and THOSE people are rinsing the taxpayer. I have to say I find it bizarre that you don’t recognise this. People have and continue to be prosecuted for benefit fraud.

My son was still in hospital when I filled out his DLA forms. I sat with the hospital support worker (who helps with DLA forms daily) and she helped me fill it in.

The forms are long, overwhelming and confusing. As long as what is in the forms is truthful and can be backed up with medical evidence, there's nothing wrong with getting help. Children shouldn't miss out on DLA because the forms are too much for some parents.

A friends partner blags it, the cleaner at my work blags it (and brags) in my experience of life LOADS of people cheat the system. It ruins it for ppl like you. These thieves are taking your money away im afraid.

Really! You know this for sure do you?
For someone to get pip, there has to be actual evidence, from medical professionals.
Sorry to disappoint you, you can’t just make it up.
Honestly, it’s people like you, who seem to take pleasure in, making out it’s easy to get and that people who do get it are “blagging”and calling claimants cheats and thieves!
Previously, l worked as a support worker, for people with mental health and physical disabilities, so l understand, the process and how difficult it is for someone to actually get it, you couldn’t be more wrong, it’s not easy to "blag”.

R3838ech · 10/09/2025 18:48

I had a senior NHS professional help me fill out my daughter’s.She had nagged me for ages to do it. It’s necessary. It’s like writing 14 mini essays with evidence .

MyLimeGuide · 10/09/2025 18:49

What lies? We dont lie its an opinion poll. And you just saying the majority are actually just idiots doesn't really make your argument justified! Just silly!

I was so glad that my son was awarded until he is 16, for him but also because of the bloody forms! They are awful and stressful.

But it’s factually wrong to state, as per that poster, that most claims are fraudulent. This is patently incorrect. That poster was wrong in her assertion.

All this is doing is perpetuating the ‘benefit scrounger’ narrative that is damaging to disabled people.

You continue to be confused and unable to keep up. You’re beyond help tbh. Enjoy your ignorant views and just pray that you don’t become disabled or chronically ill one day.

I was actually stating that most people on this thread had announced/or voted fraudulent cases, not most people in general. Please note - liars and thieves aren't likely to come forward and confess on a mumsnet thread.

But my point is still correct in that fraudulent benefit claimants have and continue to be prosecuted so it does happen. And it’s those people who you should be angry at

Yes. Copies of (any dated) prescriptions, using an ‘aid’ gets you 2 points, letters of support from professionals, friends, carers etc.
