Do people really think PIP claimants are fraudsters?!

1000 replies

Greedybilly · 09/09/2025 18:03

As someone with a chronic illness in the middle of claiming PIP I think it's important to point out it's very stressful to go through the process and actually get the benefit.
To those who were inferring it's an easy blag - I would say yes there will always be a few scammers who claim fraudulently ( though god knows how tbh?) the majority have to struggle for years/go through appeals/give up.
Just saying this for balance as I feel MN is turning slghtly into the Daily Fail.

The taxpayer can have the opinion on where their money goes. Once it has left the government accounts though and been paid to claimants, it is no longer theirs and how it is spent is none of their business.

The DWP are not concerned in how the money is spent and that is who is paying the people claiming PIP. So the tax payer should be even less concerned.

Taxpayers will continue to comment about where their taxes go to. It’s important to remember without the taxpayer there is no PIP, universal credit or any other benefit.

The only bully here is you. You have been harassing me throughout this thread, continuously quoting and trying to goad and argue semantics. I feel very sorry for you.

Not at all Plastic I haven’t had any of my posts deleted unlike you who have broken Mumsnet rules. They must have considered them offensive enough to remove them. So none of what you say has any basis in truth.
Edited for typp

The same pp who also works and says her salary and PIP go into the same ''pot'' so who knows if getting her nails done actually comes from her salary or her PIP?

Edited

Exactly. My UC and PIP both go into the one account. Sometimes I sell some second hand things and get some money come in from that too. I recently sold a few items so treated myself to a video game I was after. Still came out the same account as my PIP. I guess that means I used PIP to buy games now.

It's also important to remember that you can still receive PIP and/or UC and work.

Everlore · 12/09/2025 18:06

Dramallamafromyork · 12/09/2025 17:56

Taxpayers can have an opinion on whether it goes to those people for them to spend as they wish, or not. I don’t think the majority of the public would be too impressed with a system that lets - as a PP on this discussion stated - someone spend taxpayers money given to them on getting their nails done.

Once again, I pay carers to help with daily personal care needs. These include having my hair brushed, washed and dried and my finger and toe nails trimmed, cleaned and filed. If I could not employ carers to do these things then I would have to pay a hairdresser and a nail technician to do it for me, the alternative is leaving my hair permanently unwashed and uncombed and my nails long, ragged and dirty. I assume this is not something you would find acceptable for yourself, bein a relatively basic personal care requirement, so I don't know why you begrudge a disabled person who cannot maintain their own hair and nails paying someone to do this for them. This is the problem with getting outraged and making blanket remarks about anyone using their PIP to pay for nail care.

Also that some of us pay more in tax than we get in PIP.

I think that's the case for most people. It's the same here too, UC and DLA in the same account.

I think it makes perfect sense to put to all your money into one account otherwise it would be very difficult to budget

You have been harassing people calling them names etc, it’s all there Plastic throughout this thread and that is why some of your posts have been deleted No point trying to back peddle now the thread is coming to a close

Tiredofwhataboutery · 12/09/2025 18:13

I think some people claim it fraudulently, a really small percentage of claimants. It is concerning that the U.K. seems to be getting sicker with ever increasing numbers of people entitled to claim. Invariably it becomes unaffordable. The big issue really is pensions DWP budget is 280 billion this year 50% is going to pensioners mainly in state pension but also pension credit and attendance allowance.

Comparatively the benefit bill for disabled people is small but easier to blame them than pensioners.

Exactly the same pip and wages go into same account I have no idea which specific payment is used for taxis and which is used for a takeaway at a weekend all I know is without pip i couldn't afford to get to work which means i would no longer be paying tax and NI or get to hospital appointments as like most people these days who have to see specialists they are spread out around the country and cost an absolute fortune to get to plus loss of earnings as its a full day thing. And your not entitled to non emergency ambulance transport if you are on high rate pip so would cost the tax payer more if I wasnt on pip as I spend more then my pip on transport

On the contrary it’s you I feel sorry for that your way of discussing a subject is to be aggressive and call people names again which I have not done to you. It really says more about you than it does
