Do people really think PIP claimants are fraudsters?!

1000 replies

Greedybilly · 09/09/2025 18:03

As someone with a chronic illness in the middle of claiming PIP I think it's important to point out it's very stressful to go through the process and actually get the benefit.
To those who were inferring it's an easy blag - I would say yes there will always be a few scammers who claim fraudulently ( though god knows how tbh?) the majority have to struggle for years/go through appeals/give up.
Just saying this for balance as I feel MN is turning slghtly into the Daily Fail.

And what exactly does this have to do with you? They can also choose not to answer it. You do not have enough information to state as a fact that they don’t work or pay tax. You simply don’t know

Didn't you question a pp about her daughters PIP? What's the difference?

DipsyDee · 12/09/2025 17:19

MyLimeGuide · 12/09/2025 17:06

What are your plans for this focus on tax evasion out of interest?

Maybe they could be involved in meaningful change of it

Kirbert2 · 12/09/2025 17:19

That’s right it was a question which I am free to ask. This person then accused me of saying something which I did not say which seems to be a common occurrence in this thread

But its ok for people to ask what people spend their pip on.

Exactly. So intrusive and inappropriate. Completely hypocritical.

Yes, she also wrongly inferred that I claim PIP.

A lot of the information of what people spend their PIP on has been given voluntarily. If people don’t want to say what the use it for that is entirely their right

It is. But being told what they should, or should not, spend their money on is a different matter.

People can ask whatever questions they want to and again as a Taxpayer I can ask what ever question I like. Whether it is answered is up to the person. I personally have not asked what their PIP is spent on.

Yes they have volunteered that information. Then get told judged and told they are wrong for using the money in such a way
Some one was told that using it for private therapy was not an appropriate use.
I dont think people are genuinely curious about how the money is spent. They are not asking in good faith and read that someone is using it to get her nails done means it is spent on luxuries and everyone on PIP is doing the same.

DipsyDee · 12/09/2025 17:33

Plastictreees · 12/09/2025 17:30

They can say what they want as can the person who they were talking to. You don’t have to respond if you don’t like the way the discussion is going.

Then why tell pp it's nothing to do with her when she asked other pp a question?

The person who the PP asked had already said she want going to give out personal information. People on here have chosen to give out personal information. This person has chosen not and has said so. Just because a person freely gives out their information does not make it a reciprocal agreement.

Kreepture · 12/09/2025 17:45

not sure what any of this bickering is achieving? It's certainly not furthering the conversation or teaching anyone anything.

and just because a person does give out personal information, it doesn't mean that they agree for it to be picked apart by someone who isn't in the same situation or have asked for opinions on how their money should be spent.

You’re right of course. Some people would rather argue semantics than engage meaningfully with the topic. Hopefully people have learnt that telling disabled people what to do with their money, and suggesting vouchers of shame instead of benefit payments, is insensitive at best, downright ignorant at worst. A bit of empathy goes a long way.

Again as a taxpayer I will ask what I want regarding ALL benefits but other person doesn’t have to engage or answer. You do have agency over that. I also think it’s important to point out I haven’t asked what people spend their money on.

You aren't debating though.. Debate requires some give and take, you are simply listening to reply, not to understand.

Can you quote any posts where you have listened and conceded any points? Can you quote any posts where others have who share your viewpoint? I haven't seen one so it's a bit rich really to suggest that I must do this.

Dramallamafromyork · 12/09/2025 17:56

TheSpiritofDarkandLonelyWater · 12/09/2025 15:59

Where it goes. Not how individuals spend it.

Taxpayers can have an opinion on whether it goes to those people for them to spend as they wish, or not. I don’t think the majority of the public would be too impressed with a system that lets - as a PP on this discussion stated - someone spend taxpayers money given to them on getting their nails done.

Well let’s hope you’ve learnt in a meaningful way to be less aggressive and bullying. It really isn’t a good look and which Mumsnet has agreed with me especially as they’ve deleted some of your posts.

The taxpayer can have the opinion on where their money goes. Once it has left the government accounts though and been paid to claimants, it is no longer theirs and how it is spent is none of their business.

The DWP are not concerned in how the money is spent and that is who is paying the people claiming PIP. So the tax payer should be even less concerned.

The same pp who also works and says her salary and PIP go into the same ''pot'' so who knows if getting her nails done actually comes from her salary or her PIP?

The only bully here is you. You have been harassing me throughout this thread, continuously quoting and trying to goad and argue semantics. I feel very sorry for you.
