Ours works out as around £55-60 a month extra after tax, I know it's better than nothing but bills, mortgage , transport etc. Will outweigh it..
Anyone else?

I had one in April and one in August. Not sure why it was staggered but I think it equates to less than 50p p/h.

SnackQueen · 08/09/2025 19:29

Private sector. No pay rise since before Covid and told every year since then to be grateful that I still have a job.

Wheech · 08/09/2025 19:30

Private sector, 2.5%. But our bonus was cut 3% and the targets made harder to achieve resulting in a further ~4% reduction so overall a pay cut.

I've never had a pay rise in line with inflation in the private sector, in 25 years working for lots of big employers. Only significant pay increases have been merit based or because of promotion.

supiciousminds · 08/09/2025 19:33

Nothing. It’s charity sector, have inherited another persons work load too. It’s really depressing.

Civil service so again, below inflation is expected.
Getting pretty sick of it to be honest.

I’m civil service and got 5% last year. First decent one in years. Doubt it will be anyway near as generous this year.

Been offered a 1.4% below inflation pay rise. Same as the last few years. Union are talking about strikes.

University?

woolflower · 08/09/2025 19:36

Self employed, and I’ll be giving myself another pay cut.

The freelance/contractor market at the moment is dire, I’ll be lucky to earn 50% of what I earned 2 years ago.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/09/2025 19:38

4%

Local government. We haven’t had it yet, but always get one. A piddly amount that I don’t even notice. I think it’s about 3.2% this year.

I'll have it if you won't even notice it.
Why are you getting it, are you taking on extra work?
Why do the public sector (and those on benefits) think they should get a rise every year - surely that's adds to inflation - which makes it worse for those in the private sector who get nothing

Fgfgfg · 08/09/2025 19:44

@Gingernessy Did you miss the posts from the private sector workers on their 11% and 9% pay rises?

We don't all work for multi-nationals.
60% of Brits work for SME's and many will get nothing

TubeScreamer · 08/09/2025 20:16

Local government 3.2 %

No need to direct your anger towards the lady who is getting a small payrise, its literally nothing to do with her what rises your company do or do not pay.
Public sector is notoriously low paid compared to private and people stay for the good pensions and relatively safe jobs.
Everyone has positives and negatives to a job, we are all just discussing openly which is helpful for all, no need to be arsy with people.

MadameMaxGoesler · 08/09/2025 20:23

Private sector DB pension will increase by September's RPI, so probably 4.8%.

JaceLancs · 08/09/2025 20:24

3.2% in line with local government - although I work in VCFSE sector we try and follow NJC guidelines

Nothing. I'm a supply teacher. I'm paid slightly more than 10 years ago. Shocking.

PaterPower · 08/09/2025 20:27

3% private sector.

With inflation at the level it’s at, it’s effectively a pay cut, but I’m grateful as it could be a lot worse.

They laid quite a few people off recently (and had redundancies at Christmas too) so I certainly don’t feel secure atm and I’ve friends and ex-colleagues who’re finding it difficult to get other work.

No need for her to be arsy about the 3.2% she won't even notice paid for by struggling private sector workers

She wasn't being arsy to you though, she's a bit miffed she got a relatively low payrise along with lots of other people on here, its a helpful thread, no need to turn on people.

Sorry to hear that. Just out of curiosity but don’t feel like you need to answer at all, why is that?

MotherOfRatios · 08/09/2025 20:48

2% more sectors need to be unionised tbh because wages in the uk are abysmal

Notthatgameagain · 08/09/2025 20:59

4catsaremylife · 08/09/2025 17:13

Just handed my resignation in after 3 years working for employers. No pay rise since 2022, I am earning barely more than minimum wage now.
I'm almost 63 and a single parent to 2 ASD adults so had to make a change.

What change have you made ? Did you find a new job ? Just curious, don't have to answer if you would not !

Where did you get 3.2% from? My pay rise is 1.4% and I'm not a public sector worker.

Barney16 · 08/09/2025 21:35

3.2% public sector but I appear to be doing my job and someone else's too so I'm not exactly happy in my work.
