Upset about new top

BykeP · 06/09/2025 13:57

I bought what I thought was a lovely new top, it’s black, fluffy and sleeveless. DH thinks I look like Betty Rubble from the Flintstones and keeps saying Yabba Dabba Do every time I enter the room.

I don’t think this is funny but he won’t stop laughing. I said he is offending me and I find his comments hurtful but he said it’s too funny to stop.

I refuse to change my top but I think he is unreasonable? I can’t listen to Yabba Dabba Do anymore or be called Betty

My thoughts exactly re: hard work.

Life can be hard enough without creating more drama/offence/hurt feelings etc out of virtually nothing.

Some people need to get the stick out of their ass!

I think a lot of the comments on here are funny, but what I wouldn’t think is funny if they just kept saying it over and over again. It’s like, it’s witty when you come out with the first time but when you keep saying it, it’s just annoying. And kind of cringey.

Laughing is good for the soul. So is switching on your imagination. You should try it. It might help you lighten up.

Have a nice life 😁

Oh, I laugh plenty. Just not at such simple 'jokes'. I

JustChillin70 · 06/09/2025 22:51

Got to admit I did actually laugh out loud reading the OP

I have a pleated leather look skirt and my OH rasps “Hey Batman” anytime I wear it. It’s funny.

Doesn’t he mean
Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife…

Dark green is Boycie.

Love it!! Boycie I am then!

There’s someone at work who has a grey zip up Frank Bough cardigan. We wouldn’t say that to his face though.

Someone I used to work with had what we called the “he means business: Phil Mitchell’s black leather jacket”. He didn’t mind.

I had to look up FB cardigan- yikes! Also did you know there’s a band called Frank Boughs Cardigan that came up?

The more you give him a reaction he'll just carry on winding you up. Funny though.

This is advice for dealing with school bullies.

That behaviour is not acceptable from your husband.

OP you should "accidentally" spill something hot, or sticky, on him every time he says it.

I once bought a pale pink dress with cream spots

Dp told me I looked like Mr blobbys nan

I laughed but if he'd upset me he would have been mortified

He gives me an honest opinion if I ask for it (and annoyingly,he's always right) but if he strayed into bullying/i got upset,he would say sorry and do everything he could to make it right again

Betty rubble is sexy, his bullying isn't

Ive read you say this on another thread and was trying to remember it, thanks for the reminder, it cracked me up all over again.

I was wearing a turtle neck and was telling DS11 to hurry up and get ready and he said 'ok, relax Steve Jobs'.

Hilarious. I think the PPs with no sense of humour probably don’t have sons.

You clearly have a boring sense of style, like most on here tbh. I don't think that most people on here are all that stylish.

I mean if your idea of stylish is a sleeveless black fluffy top I think you're proving your own point a bit.

JudgeBread · 06/09/2025 23:34

PiggyPigalle · 06/09/2025 19:27

If she thought it, so would others.

She got her comeuppance. Went to a Heroes fancy dress dress party, she chose instead of a character to make a Heroes box of chocolates from stiff card. The box that narrows at the bottom, had heroes wrappers stuck all over it.

Bus arrived and she couldn't lift her legs up the step. Imagine this mad purple box bobbing around.
Passengers had to lift her on to the bus.
Plonker!

Ok but who fucking cares if other people don't like your coat?

Also it's a bit rich of you to mock your daughter struggling to get on a bus, while also saying that her mocking you was enough to ruin a perfectly fine coat for you. Evidently the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree!

Slebs · 06/09/2025 23:42

My DH told me he really loved a jumper of mine. Because it reminded him of Brian Clough.

And that's just one of many examples.

I think it's funny and it doesn't stop me wearing the clothes. DH only wears jeans and black/navy/grey t-shirts, so anything other than that needs some sort of classification to help him compute.

LetsTryAgainNowThen · 06/09/2025 23:50

I have a hat that I really like, but DH keeps saying I look like Jeremy Corbyn in it. One "joke" I could tolerate, but I've repeatedly had to ask him to stop and it's spoiling my enjoyment of wearing it. It's really annoying.

If he keeps saying it after you've asked him to stop, yanbu.

You clearly have zero sense of style or trends.

Bloozie · 07/09/2025 00:19

I mean. She’s the origin of hot women being described as a Betty in Wayne’s World. Sch-wing!

It’s juvenile and probably very annoying but also. Worse things to be called.

GeorgeClooneyshouldhavemarriedme · 06/09/2025 14:03

Hands up everyone who just googled Betty Rubble!

Only the young ones. You really missed out. It was a beautiful tv show. Loved it.

MsAmerica · 07/09/2025 00:56

I can see where his reaction would be annoying, but to call it "hurtful" seems to me another example of the melodramatic overreaction I often see here. A sensible reaction would be to play along.

Come on, the coco the clown post is hilarious! I am trying to picture the trousers that elicited such a comment and it cracks me up.

user1492757084 · 07/09/2025 01:10

Well, you have to remember the rest of the lyrics and sing with full gusto, Op.
Does DH have a stubble line?

Icebreakhell · 07/09/2025 01:14

Crumbs, we are a family of piss taking bastards. My poor aunt and mum were so pleased with their matching leather jackets and then my cousin shouted Chas and Dave.

My aunt was He-Man and Richard III with various fringes.

Years ago I bought a cap and DH named me Jodie Marsh. Went straight to charity shop. He put on a bit of weight and his short sleeved top looked tight- Eric Bristow. He spent hundreds of £ on some glasses that darken in bright sunlight- Cliff Richard.

d317 · 07/09/2025 03:02

Still haven’t seen a photo of the fluffy top 😕

BykeP · 06/09/2025 14:41

He originally started with Wilma then said he didn’t particularly like the character so decided I was Betty instead.

So the next time he wants sex, ask him if he finds Barney Rubble sexy. If he says no, ask why he’d want sex with you then. (He wasn’t comparing you to Betty, he just preferred the name if he tries any of that shit). Tell him it’s the last you want to hear about it or you’ll assume he fancies short, blonde cavemen. Then start taking the piss out of him for that. Be interesting to see how he funny it is then.

JustReal · 07/09/2025 05:41

Funny to me but that is mostly because I don't care what my dh says about clothes, to a large degree, and I have an unsinkable sense of humour when it's self-deprecating.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/09/2025 05:59

I bet that @BykeP‘s DH is slopping around in jeans or joggers, or the shorts version.

No, it really isn't 'hilarious' unless you are very easily amused.
