The cooler breeze is refreshing and the rain was needed.

I hate autumn. Soon it will be dark early and it just feels like everyone goes into hibernation, where I live you see everyone out and about in summer but once autumn comes it feels like a ghost town. I also hate going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark.

Roll on spring, that’s my favourite season followed by summer.

I usually love September it's the best time for camping but not this year it's been a bit too rainy.

I'm in Ireland so different weather but I too love camping in Autumn, I didn’t get away this summer so am desperately hoping for some nice dry Autumn weather to indulge in a few weekends away, I love the forests when the leaves are falling and there's a bite in the air, a decent sleeping bag and proper clothes makes camping fun in chillier weather but I hate the rain and how much extra work it entails. Friends were away last weekend and they ended up with tents on clothes lines, hanging over baths and stairs in attempts to dry them when they got home, one didn't get hers dried quick enough and its become smelly, it won't put me off but I'll be praying for dryness rather than warmth. A cool evening, a camp fire, some nice food and good friends (am just as happy alone sometimes) makes for a lovely time.

Agree. I love summer but there’s something magical about the transition to autumn and the subtle little changes.

I do some volunteering on Sunday morning at a local park and last Sunday there was a tangible difference. It was still lovely warm weather but there’s something magical was a subtle shift so you knew it was heading to autumn: golden leaves, spiders webs on the bushes and a different smell in the air.

Wonderful. We are so lucky to have defined seasons in the UK.

Plastictreees · 06/09/2025 11:12

Yeah absolutely, cannot wait to get the boots and tights on! Love a crisp autumnal / winter walk.

Bobbyelvis4ever · 06/09/2025 16:21

Oh Autumn, how I’ve missed you. So many great events in Autumn and Winter to look forward to. Autumn is the best assault on my senses - wind and rain on the face, the chance of colours, and the brilliant noise as you crunch through the forest. And the start of mornings with the crisp fresh smell in the air. Never mind how great those dark nights are for stargazing, and feeling cosy.

Winter is a close second in my affections. It’s getting colder, the nights are drawing in, and I am here for it!

DappledThings · 06/09/2025 16:26

Still roasting here. It's usually into October before things properly cool down and try nice again. Tshirt and sea swimming weather here still.

Delatron · 06/09/2025 16:28

No - it’s not as nice as it normally is in September (though today has been pleasant). Don’t like wind and rain and below average temperatures.

I was enjoying the lovely summer and it’s a bit of a shock to the system. It was too hot at times for this country to be fair. But I’d rather it stay sunny/ warm. With some overnight rain!

I don’t think we have as defined seasons as other places though? This year summer has been different but normally it’s mild and wet to a bit colder and wet. No snow, normally not that much heat. Other countries have better seasons.

I remember one year it was 15 degrees on Christmas Day and it had been 16 degrees in August. There’s no distinction there other than it’s a lot darker in winter.

Barney16 · 06/09/2025 16:32

Love autumn but dreading winter. I keep googling where's hot in January.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 06/09/2025 16:39

Nope it’s been raining and grey all summer and we only got 3 nice days in total.

JohnTheRevelator · 06/09/2025 16:43

Yes,definitely! I feel like I can actually breathe again! When the temperatures were in the upper 20s/low 30s,I felt like I was breathing in soup. I love autumn. But that probably because I don't like excessively hot weather.

Where in the country are you?! In the south east, we've had 4 heatwaves in 3 months!

Athena2025 · 06/09/2025 16:45

Autumn has always been my favourite time of the year. Change, renewal, fresh weather, new beginnings .. shorter days.. getting cosy..

DinoLil · 06/09/2025 16:47

Yes! Me!!! My favourite time of year.

Cantheowneroftheredcorsapleasemovetheircar · 06/09/2025 16:49

Yes, I love the change of any seasons, it's just nice to have a change. October is one of my favourite months, so I'm looking forward to next month.i love that all the blackberries and apples are out, my freezer is well stocked.
The only month I really hate is January. I think all the others have something nice to offer.

Thissickbeat · 06/09/2025 16:50

No. I hate it. From now until the end of march feels oppressive. The dark is literally growing around me. She says dramatically 😳.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 06/09/2025 01:53

I can honestly say I love all seasons but detest the rain. I have also just given up smoking 🤗 so I'm looking forward to not freezing my arse off outside when I need a gasper.
And sorry @kippersmum I do love my winter wardrobe 🫣.

I haven't heard the word 'gasper' for years! It's what my DM always called cigarettes.

Deelitefull · 06/09/2025 16:57

I love the changing of the seasons and I adore each one. Usually the first week the kids go back to school it’s scorching so we went on holiday for it this year but it’s definitely encroaching on autumn. Still had a lovely time though. Generally people have a favourite season but my favourite is when they change ☺️

no heatwaves here. Not even a little wave.

It does feel oppressive and ominous.

Only on Mumsnet do I hear people say how much they LOVE getting up in the pitch black and coming home from work in the dark at 4pm.

Elbowpatch · 06/09/2025 17:06

A lovely day today. Warm with blue skies, sun and no rain.

Delatron · 06/09/2025 17:07

I can’t stand all the cosy and snuggling under a blanket talk. Because I’m never sure when you’re supposed to be snuggling under this bloody blanket. Certainly not when you’re commuting home from work in the dark and rain. Or ferrying the kids to clubs in the dark. Or traipsing around with the dog in the dark…

Anyway, in an effort to not find it all so bleak I bought a book called ‘Wintering’ and it is helpful to make us appreciate the ‘change’ in seasons and how to get through it all basically.

I’ll still never believe a pumpkin latte makes up for 6 months of cold, rain dark though…

Nor me. I bloody hate autumn. Christmas and New Year are OK but, otherwise, life doesn’t restart until March.

avocadotofu · 06/09/2025 17:12

Yes, I absolutely love autumn!
