To be worried about the dark political direction of this country

Has anyone else seen the video doing the rounds of Farage being properly grilled in Congress? Honestly, it was the first time I’ve ever seen him held to account, unlike here, where the UK media give him endless airtime and barely challenge him.

They raised his 17 appearances on Russian state TV and his open admiration for Putin. Shocking, but not exactly surprising. Apparently he’s over in the US slagging off the UK, trying to cosy up to Trump, and giving speeches at far-right, anti-abortion events. Is this genuinely what he’s about now?

What I can’t wrap my head around is how he continues to poll so highly. Time and again he seems to act in ways that are completely at odds with the UK’s best interests, yet his supporters see him as some kind of saviour who’ll “stop the boats”. The irony being, of course, that the small boat crisis is a direct consequence of Brexit – the very thing he spent years pushing.

I know politics is never squeaky clean, but this feels different. It feels like there are darker, more insidious forces backing him, with the aim of undermining and dismantling the country bit by bit. It’s frightening to think how many people are still buying into the image he’s carefully crafted for himself, when the reality seems so much murkier.

All I ever hear from Reform voters when I challenge them is 'Yes, but Labour are crap' or 'You're just a leftie'. I'm not that left wing or even a Labour supporter, and i know Labour arent doing a good job right now. I just can't understand why people think Reform is the best alternative when Farage is clearly going to pimp the country out to his rich backers. The 'stop the boats' immigration debate is just the red herring, dog whistle policy that will get him votes.

Russia and China are actively working to destabilise the west, every way they can however, Im sure there are lots of people on their payroll. I'm far more worried about the rise of extreme Islam.

We have weekly marches with people spewing out hatred of Jews and calling for the destruction of the only democratic state in the Middle East, and in support of an extreme jihadist terror group.

I'll take Farage over an Islamic republic any day

bobby81 · 06/09/2025 11:23

I completely agree with @Dinosaurshoebox
People feel like there’s no where else to go politically because they’ve been let down so spectacularly by the other major parties. If there was an election tomorrow I have no idea how I would vote. The next few years will be very interesting / scary!

Do you honestly believe that the UK is about to become an Islamic republic? Based upon what? The Muslim population represents around 6% of the population. How will 6% seize power, exactly?

basinbasin · 06/09/2025 11:32

@MargaretThursday but Im not sure the majority of the voting public want honesty

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/09/2025 11:32

smallglassbottle · 06/09/2025 11:01

Or worse, that the government are allowing the boats in deliberately or even facilitating it, which is another story altogether.

They could have stopped this if they wanted to. They locked people up for rioting pretty damn quick.

You believe the British government is facilitating small boat crossings 😳

basinbasin · 06/09/2025 11:36

All the people who say immigration isn’t the issue arent experiencing the effects.

I don't think that's true, I see legal immigration as a sticking plaster to our low growth. I don't dispute illegal migration isn't a problem, I just don't think it's an easy thing to stop.

Starmer can see the flags. If he wants the vote he has to prove he cares for Britain and Brits. He has to step up and give some love to the British. If he doesn’t , it’s game over…and Nigel will step in and do what he likes.

Edited

He cannot do this. He has no love for Britain and can give none.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/09/2025 11:39

peanutbuttertoasty · 06/09/2025 11:37

How on earth can you make such an assertion? Do you know him, personally?

After his performance at the congressional committee last week, would you not agree that it’s Farage who has no love for this nation? He’s clearly out to make a buck however he can. If that means denigrating the UK, so be it, apparently.

PandoraSocks · 06/09/2025 11:43

DawnDutch · 06/09/2025 11:11

And your qualification for addressing me as if I’m in court and you are prosecuting me is what, exactly?

You are of course free to make sweeping generalisations without backing them up, but Hitchens' Razor applies.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 06/09/2025 11:46

@DawnDutchThey get dissent and turmoil in the country, harder for the government to manage, less money to spend on NATO, less say in the EU and harder to take a stand against Russia. He takes us out of the ECHR, we get fewer rights. He’s openly said that he thinks Putin is one of the greatest leaders in the world.

basinbasin · 06/09/2025 11:47

People are feeling financially squeezed and the rhetoric is that others are being handed things on a plate. Even those who may be more comfortably off are feeling the pressure that the increased population is putting on services such as schools, GPs etc.

We are squeezed because we didn't recover from the 08 crash & services haven't been invested in. We have an ageing population which also impacts population growth & pressure on services. In many parts of the country schools are merging or closing because birth rates are so low.

Elseaknows · 06/09/2025 11:48

Trump has allowed America to hate again. Reform is allowing Britain to do the same. People are more open about their views on "the immigrants" and the imaginary issues they are bringing (with maybe a couple of legit ones thrown in.)
My neighbour has his flag proudly displayed in the front window claiming to be patriotic and keeps spouting nonsense about "protecting women and girls" when he's had police involvement because he's battered his own missus 3 times this year and she's too scared to leave. The real danger is HIM. But you can't argue with a coke head who sees his own girlfriend and daughters as second class citizens and believes everything he sees on tik tok and Facebook while thinking Tommy Robinson should be the next PM. 🙄

I agree that this is the reason. However the mainstream media are in many cases pushing the idea that it’s due to immigration and Farage is tapping into that knowing that people are frustrated and will listen.

The system we have was always going to come under pressure. Look at other countries where similar is happening politically. It was set up decades ago and won’t survive.

One concerning side effect is the sleepwalking into digital ID and further control by the gov.

peanutbuttertoasty · 06/09/2025 00:35

This. He’s heavily in with the WEF, loathes our country and has allegiances elsewhere. He wants us to own nothing, aspire to nothing and say nothing. There’s an enormous levelling down going on in this country that we will not be able to bounce back from.

100% this. Starmer loathes our country OP - he's literally driving people towards Farage & co. To be honest it's starting to look like deliberate self-sabotage!

Wonderwendy · 06/09/2025 12:00

KhakiTiger · 06/09/2025 09:56

Looks like Labour cheerleaders are shitting by their pants about a Reform government. Shouldn’t have voted for crooks, incompetents and thieves then, should you.

But wanting to piss off Labour voters doesn't seem like a great reason to vote for someone does it? Why don't you vote for a party that offers you a better life rather than just to stick it to other people??

Krenonges · 06/09/2025 12:01

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 06/09/2025 10:58

I have a friend in counter terrorism who is adamant that Farage is directly on the payroll of the Russian government. He has deliberately worked to sow dissension and hatred in the country and it has worked. Many people are so deep in their own misery as they can see that their quality of life does not in any way reflect that of the most wealthy and they see him as a way of addressing that. What they don’t see is that he is a grifter who is playing on their fears and insecurities whilst raking in wealth for himself and his cronies. I am scared for the future of this country and I am placing all of my hopes on Labour and the Lib Dem’s but I don’t know what they can do. We have been left in such a shitshow after 14 years of the Tories, I honestly don’t think Labour can make an impact even in 5 years and their communication is not good enough. They are doing good things but people don’t know about them and aren’t yet feeling any impact. If Farage and co get in, I may look at leaving the country.

Why isn't it headline news if he's a Russian asset??

But could anyone seriously vote corbin? Farage I understand because he knows what emotions to target, (i don't support him) but corbin is surely not a serious contender? (I misspell his name and no capitals deliberately)

The new party on the left hasn't elected a leader yet, and I suspect that Corbyn, now in his mid-late 70's, won't be the leader. They will surely want someone younger, won't they?

What party would that be? All the smaller parties who hate women?

millymollymoomoo · 06/09/2025 12:03

Oh another reform bashing thread

the biggest threat to this country has been and continues to be the woke leftist nonsense. It’s this that will be the countries downfall, along with socialism and militant Islamism

BadgesforBadgers · 06/09/2025 12:04

peanutbuttertoasty · 06/09/2025 00:18

Every bit of what you said, but make it Starmer and co. Not a fan of Nigel whatsoever but he doesn’t give me the chills like they do.

I completely give up on the voting population of this country

So you think that Garage who has attended anti abortion rallies DOESNT hate women? They'd be taking women's rights back 50 years. Do you really think maternity rights, abortion rights would do well under Reform? If so why?
