To think our wedding might be massive failure?!

Hey guys, name change for this...

Will our wedding in a few weeks be a total disaster? The plan for the day:

  1. A morning, Christian ceremony in a rural village church with around 40 adults and 10 children. Our two children will also be in attendance (our DD is only 18 months, very clingy and will likely need to walk down the aisle with me...)

  2. A 40 minute drive to a rural pub located in the middle of a national park

  3. A sit down, relatively casual 2 course meal there (I think a few people want to say a few words but we haven't planned for it as such)

  4. A 20 minute drive to the final venue where guests who are staying will be with us. It has wild swimming in a natural lake, fire pits, hot tubs, and we've got a pizza van coming for evening food and alcohol will be there for when we arrive.

  5. No music is allowed at the final venue (eeeeek). We aren't party animals and I want an early night due to small children, so I'm hoping this might work in our favour? Or is it really boring?!

  6. For the following morning I have arranged for a caterer to come and provide breakfast, leaving for 10:00.

Does this sound okay to you? We are really panicking that it'll be a bit crap due to multiple venues, driving, children and no real plan!!!

EDIT:

You are being unreasonable - it will be fine
You are not being unreasonable - crikey, what a terrible plan that is

A wedding like this really would’ve been better with transport provided between venues. It doesn’t seem very well thought through at all.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 07/09/2025 18:29

I think it sounds idyllic, I'd be so looking forward to attending if I was one of your guests.
The travel between venues really isn't that big and wouldn't bother me at all.

TaterTots68 · 07/09/2025 21:21

It's your day so you get to choose. The pizza would be a killer for me, I hate it, but I know I'm in the minority and I'm sure you know your guests. Hope you have a lovely wedding

I don't understand the love on MN for wedding hosts to provide a bus to the Reception.
I LIKE having our own car there.
I like the autonomy to be able to stay as long as I like / leave as early as I like.
I like being able to have a change of shoes.
I like being able to have a bag in the car with things like bathroom cabinet drugs, plasters, stain removers, (depending on weather) an umbrella / coat / fan / cardi, I usually have snacks so am ready to support anyone who struggles with the ludicrous gaps some weddings have before you can eat (have been the saviour at a few wedding with these). If it is a 'hat' wedding, I like to be able to put that in the car once the party gets started.

Then what happens about getting home if you have all been taken an hour+ away on a bus ?

Sounds great, your wedding you do what you want.

Sulpmel · 07/09/2025 22:29

I’m sure it will be fine, is there any way opportunity for kids to let off steam between church/drive/sit down meal?

SleepyLemur · 07/09/2025 22:38

Personally I would try to organise transport between venues, but it may be too late. If there was transport, people could drink with the wedding breakfast. Maybe you already have transport sorted and I have missed this though.

A lot of this may be personal taste, but the one thing I would say is that alcohol and wild swimming sounds like they could be dangerous. I would seriously consider if this is safe and if you just need to remove the wild swimming option.

Hope it all goes well. I have been to some very low key weddings that have been amazing.

DelphiniumBlue · 07/09/2025 22:56

Why different venues? Seems odd to have people go to a pub, where they won’t be able to drink, and then go on somewhere else. I’d ditch the middle venue, maybe lay on transport, and make sure there’s someone detailed to make sure the DC don’t toddle off into the water unobserved. It doesn’t really sound like a child friendly venue, though lovely for teens and adults.
The entertainment sounds just fine, very chilled. I’m sure you’ll all have a lovely day!

SleepyLemur · 07/09/2025 23:10

I missed that small children would be at the final venue with all the water. This would be far too stressful for me. I love children at weddings, but not when I am worried about drowning risk. As lovely as the final venue sounds for a relaxing day out, I would stay at the pub if I were a wedding guest. I would still have had the honor of watching you get married and having a lovely celebration meal with you, but would politely thank you and go home after the pub.

Silent disco for anyone that wants music, bring headphones and listen to your own?

DataMum88 · 08/09/2025 13:59

I actually think this sounds lovely! You'll be busy trying to see everyone anyway and guests can entertain themselves. As long as they know what to bring (swimming costume etc.) it'll be fine?

Maybe appoint someone as the point of contact for questions/directions on the day, so you don't need to worry about that and can just forward stuff on (no idea why people think it's appropriate to bother the bride and groom, but...)

AmyDuPlantier · 08/09/2025 14:44

Honestly, a wedding invitation that includes two separate drives and cold water swimming…is a hard no. In October especially.

Its so interesting though, the amount of people on this thread dying for an invite, I must be in the minority!

cestlavielife · 08/09/2025 14:46

Hot tubs.
I am sure no one is forced to swim !

AmyDuPlantier · 08/09/2025 15:24

Ok, any invitation to a wedding that involves bringing a swimming costume then. It’s not for everyone is it.
