To think the men women need protecting from aren’t asylum seekers but the ones shouting outside the hotels?

ForSoberBrickOwl · 05/09/2025 19:36

I read in the Guardian this week that 40% of the men arrested during last year’s racist riots had already been reported to police for domestic abuse. That stat hasn’t left my mind.
It makes me think that the men standing outside asylum hotels claiming to “protect” women are often the very ones we need protecting from.

AIBU to think the real danger isn’t coming from migrants, it’s coming from the violent, radicalised men already here who use women’s safety as a smokescreen?

I have never been to Epping but I am pretty sure its not under Taliban rule.
I do know that the only place my 13 year old DD had men shout "show us your tits" on a saturday afternoon was Wetherspoons where there was a distinct lack of Asylum seekers.
I am not arguing that women and girls are safe from harrassment outside places where large groups of bored young men are hanging out (many of them from countries with a very dubious attitude to women) BUT the men who want to "protect are kids" are as a group as likely to assault them as men who have arrived here illegally.

Exactly.

Some balance is what is needed here.

Stop being disingenuous (or deluded) and swap Afghanistan with other Muslim country if the Taliban confused your brain

Notaflippinclue · 05/09/2025 20:45

You need to look at the stats pound for pound

Because of the incidences of sexual assault.,.

By the men rioting? 40%+ over a couple of different occasions. No evidence it’s at 40% for asylum seekers - though, as men, I’m sure it’s true of some of them.

This is an article worth reading.

It’s fine and understandable to be concerned about immigration and the asylum hotels. But just please don’t be stupid enough to think that Nigel Farage and his ilk care about women and girls. The truth is the absolute opposite - they’d like us back in the kitchen with no power to say no to anything.

(It’s worth remembering that Kyle Clifford watched Andrew Tate videos in the hours leading up to the murders he committed.)

“It’s an old trick from the far-right playbook: the fantasy that foreign men pose an existential danger to white women, who must be “protected” by white men. The subtext is clear: women are property in need of guarding. And then there is the darker truth: violence is tolerable, so long as it comes from our own.

Don’t believe me? Ask yourself where Farage’s fury goes when the perpetrators are white British men. I don’t recall him being an apologist for “civil disobedience on a vast scale” when Kyle Clifford raped and murdered Louise Hunt and killed her sister and mother with a crossbow, nor when the Met officer Wayne Couzens abducted and murdered Sarah Everard. What I do recall is Farage hailing Andrew Tate, the misogynist influencer who is facing rape and human trafficking charges in Britain (which Tate denies) and an investigation in Romania, as an “important voice” for young boys. He also defended his own MP, James McMurdock, who in 2006 was convicted of assaulting his former girlfriend, downplaying the offence, insisting the conviction was “irrelevant” and that his colleague was a “good example to young tearaways”. By my count, that is 20 per cent of Reform’s originally elected MPs with violent offences against women.”

Nigel Farage’s hollow, dangerous concern for women

Reform’s radical plans for mass deportations won’t make anyone safer.

When the UK start to realise sexual assault data in relation to race or religion, then you can stop the delusion

DD recently returned from a month touring round places such as Sri Lanka, Dubai, parts of the Indian sub continent, I know it’s not the areas the asylum seekers come from, but the thing she noticed above all else was how she was effectively ignored by the men in these countries when she ordered anything or paid for things, they always asked her partner if it was alright to proceed, outside of countries considered western, women are definitely still second class citizens and not respected

Not been my experience in eg Egypt, Morocco, India.
Women are second class citizens everywhere. We haven’t got to equality yet.

Sskka · 05/09/2025 20:49

OwlBeThere · 05/09/2025 20:42

No of course not, but let’s not pretend that all of the perpetrators in these situations are immigrants. Plenty of instances of British born offenders exist.
it’s just easier to pretend that ALL the problem lies with immigrants.

How many of the perpetrators were part of the 85%?

What have I said that is "delusion"?
That the men outside the hotels are as dangerous to women if not more than those inside?

BarnOwlFlying · 05/09/2025 20:07

Because of the incidences of sexual assault.,.

Yes, in the Epping case. I don’t think it’s one or the other though. Sexual assault, rape and violence against women isn’t confined to one religious group or ethnicity. It’s a worldwide issue. The OP is saying 40% (I think it was 41-42%) of men arrested for immigration protests have been arrested for violence against women. To use “protecting our women” as a reason for their protest is therefore pretty mute.

Realitycheck1 · 05/09/2025 20:50

I see so because some protesters have a dubious background re women we should allow more totally un vetted men in to potentially also abuse woman and girls.
The potential is higher because these men come from religions and cultures that are not as advanced as ours on equality but that's ok because we have our own home grown abusers ?

quantumbutterfly · 05/09/2025 20:51

fwiw op I think yabu - Do you denigrate every demographic that protests, or just this one?

Those Neanderthals with the flags are troublemakers looking for any excuse to kick out at anyone they see as lower than them in the social pecking order. What are they doing, standing around shouting and waving flags? Don’t they have work to go to or families to look after? Make me ashamed to be British

SeaAndStars · 05/09/2025 20:51

Whatever other arguments there are about this the fact that 2 out of every 5 men arrested during the riots last year have been reported for domestic violence is really shocking. That's a lot of men. A lot of men who are angry and violent towards women.

Menopausalsourpuss · 05/09/2025 20:52

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/09/2025 20:41

I mean obviously all men from anywhere can be a threat.

But it is striking how many of the men protesting outside have DV convictions. Same as MAGA - those who shout most about “foreign criminals” “foreign rapists” and “protecting our women” so often seem to have convictions for these type of offences.

Anyone would think it was more about ownership of women than anything else?

It would also of course be great if we still had
access to the EU's database of intelligence on those seeking asylum and whether they may have previous convictions in EU countries etc for these of, because of course I'm in favour of protecting women and children from predatory men, wherever they are from! Not going to pretend anyone seeking asylum or moving to the UK for whatever reason must be lovely.

Why would EU countries not give us that information and endanger our women and girls? I thought they were our friends (and we have them millions of pounds net over the years). And once again, there is NO evidence the men protesting legally outside the hotels have DV convictions (sigh went are there so many hard of thinking on mn?).

hotelinfo · 05/09/2025 20:53

Those men protesting outside hotels in England shirts or bare chested with beer bellies hanging out are the absolute shame if British society.,

We are supposed to have one of the best education systems in the world. How the hell do we end up with so many utter morons?

Illegal immigrants or no illegal immigrants, these people would still be pond life.

Its this classic white man entitlement - they did f all at school and probably have hardly worked in their lives, yet they still feel society owes them respect and just about everything and they genuinely can't fathom why they're not all rich with women throwing themselves at them. Pathetic morons. The underbelly of Britain.

No it is not and we should not BUT the idea of the majority of these men who are protesting are some sort of saviours of women is ridiculous.

Could have just stopped at ‘men’ OP!

Men in boats
Men in frocks
Men in women’s sports
Men in women’s changing rooms
Men in women’s toilets
Men in women’s prisons
Men in rape crisis centres
Men…just men!

Do you think a British born man is equally and just as likely to commit a sexual assault as a man who has entered this country illegally on a boat? Or are you only comparing to a small number of far right protestors that got arrested?

Realitycheck1 · 05/09/2025 20:59

@hotelinfo do you think we do have the best education system in the world ?

If that's so why are so many prisoners dyslexic ?

If the shit hits the fan with Putin who do you think will be fighting for us ?

YANBU. It’s funny how men of this country have been unwilling to call out their own friends, brothers, colleagues when they have known them to behave badly towards women, but as soon as there’s a chance of it being a brown person it’s important enough to protest over.

Was struggling to even think what to say because the whole thing baffles me so much, but you got it spot on.

YANBU
