To think Farage surely has to go

So Farage has some dodgy private company set up to avoid paying tax. Is he being pressured to resign as head of Reform? Of course not. Because he’s an entitled privileged man.

The double standards are incredible really. Here’s the story https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/sep/05/nigel-farage-uses-private-company-to-pay-less-tax-on-gb-news-earnings

While I think Rayner had to resign, why are the same standards not being applied?

Yes you’ve gone off on a bit a tangent again about low mortality rates from traffic accidents in Denmark because of trade unions, it’s quite hard to keep up.

And you don't seem to have a grasp of the economic model I'm referring to as you just equate it with 'lefties' and fat Injections so maybe we should leave it there.

I think she might be from the Danish Tourist agency - she's obsessed with Denmark.

I just thought you might appreciate a more detailed description as to its relative success.

That's kind of you, but I think we already established upthread that you are quite young and young people with few assets generally turn to socialist policies, as we grow up and start to have more assets of our own oddly the idea of sharing them gets less attractive. It is always easier to spend someone else's money, it is harder when someone else is spending your money. In the future I'm sure you will understand this, as most people do as they age.

I'm not young but guessing you are older than me. I have an asset of a home if that is what you mean 😂

It's well established that people move to the right as they get older on average. As I say it is easier when you spending someone elses money.

Anyway got to go now. It's been a pleasant day off debating with socialists. We might have persuaded a few people that becoming Denmark is not a credible alternative to Reform.

30% of the population are saying they will vote for change at the next election. Real change not son of a toolmaker change which is it turns out was just a buzz word for more of the same. Last we find that the Deputy Prime Minister is kicked out for tax fraud, this week the first political appointment for US ambassador is going to get kicked out for cosy up to a child abuser. At the current rate there weren't be anyone left to fight Reform in the next election.

...more comedy, you should consider the Edinburgh fringe next year?

This doesn’t sound remotely funny to me.

And you forgot to mention….there is ZERO right to maternity pay in the States. Zilch. Some employers offer a few weeks as a gesture of goodwill.

There is indeed greater inequality of wealth in the US, but the level of wealth in the US is much higher than compared to the UK.

So that the poorest state in the US which is Mississippi still has a higher GDP per capita than the UK.

In short the US is richer than the UK but the gap between rich and poor is greater, whereas the UK is poorer but the gap between rich and poor is less.

Or to put it another way yes the rich in the US are wealthier than the rich in the UK but equally the poor in the US are richer than the poor in the UK.

Bumblebee72 · 10/09/2025 19:16

It's only 4 years. Just like with this Government we gave them a chance, they have failed in the most spectacular way in less than one. So we just cross our fingers and hope they don't fuck it up too much more and vote in Reform at the next election. If they fail we'll vote in someone else. It is going so badly, you could think of it as in a game of play your cards right, and we've been given a three, whilst it possible that if you vote higher you might lose, it could be a two, on balance your more likely to win. Alternatively using your moving analogy, imagine your current house is in Hull, you could more pretty much anywhere and it would be better, so exactly where doesn't matter too much.

don’t be silly you could move to luton or baghdad and it would be much worse.

Don't worry through. Everyone's a socialist when they are young. As you get more experience you'll understand why it not the way forward

I’m 60. I’m more left wing now than I’ve ever been.

cardibach · 11/09/2025 00:32

Bumblebee72 · 10/09/2025 18:38

It's just a different mind set. The difference between people who book the same holiday to Butlins every year because it might be crap but they know what to expect versus those who go Thailand one year, Mexico the next - they may like it they may not but at least they tried.

I go somewhere different every year. I love a bit of culture shock. I still do research before I book. It would be madness not to.

Fleetheart · 10/09/2025 22:55

I'll concede that point. I've been to Luton it is definitely one of those places where the airport is the main thing so people can leave.

Absolutely. But many posters would be happy if we are all poor, provided that no one is rich.

It’s quite rare, once people have assets and children they become more conservative. Do you mind me asking if you’ve worked in the public sector most of your life and if you have dc?

I don't think it's rare for people who have assets and children to have voted in 2024 for Labour, which is a centrist party with its current outlook. in fact that is literally the reason the people - friends/family who range from very wealthy to average income, voted for them.

60s never worked in PS, children.... higher rate tax payer for much of it... assets? enough to retire early.......next?

You r just playing to an out of date stereotype, which another pp used to keep asking about too....

Rubbish. He’s avoiding tax. She made a stupid mistake. Both in public life but massive levels of hypocrisy. He’s the leader of a political party lecturing everyone else on how they should live while taking the piss.

All politicians should live by the same standards. We are paying their bloody salaries.

What he is doing is legal, what Rayner did was illegal, massive difference in law plus Rayner was in government and deputy leader and deputy PM and housing minister and extremely vocal pre election about dodging taxes and there she was ignoring advice to see a tax specialist and dodging 40k of stamp duty, I hope she gets a massive fine and dropped by Labour
