To think Farage surely has to go

So Farage has some dodgy private company set up to avoid paying tax. Is he being pressured to resign as head of Reform? Of course not. Because he’s an entitled privileged man.

The double standards are incredible really. Here’s the story https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/sep/05/nigel-farage-uses-private-company-to-pay-less-tax-on-gb-news-earnings

While I think Rayner had to resign, why are the same standards not being applied?

Nigel Farage uses private company to pay less tax on GB News earnings

Exclusive: Reform leader’s use of personal services firm is a practice criticised across the political spectrum

Those 14 years of “chaos” are beginning to look like the salad days.

haha scarcely! are you looking back fondly to when the last government offered an oven ready brexit and to the days they squandered £10 Billion (!!!!) on PPE that was not usable. Or to those halcyon days of honesty with Dominic Cummings calling our PM a shopping trolley (he was!), and sitting in that rose garden explaining that he had had to drive to Barnards Castle to test his eyesight😅 What a bunch of scoundrels they were. Not to forget for a moment Rishi's eat out to help out that spread the virus further, and Matt Hancock (Health Secretary) snogging his "colleage" who he had given a job to in his office while the covid restrictions were on. They really were unfit to lead us.

like I said; it will take some time to turn around; every single government has struggled
wirh immigration- reason: it’s unpopular but we don’t have enough people to sustain our institutions (ie our much loved NHS and our much loved pension) without this influx. I agree it needs to be limited and provision for housing needs to be sorted. But blaming immigrants themselves and the divisive anti invader sentiments we have seen recently is not the way to go.

Are Labour genuinely trying to turn immigration around?

Can anyone pro reform explain their plans for the nhs ? It seems to be those painting our roundabouts are the very ones who would have no access to free healthcare under a more insurance based system

Increased training of medical staff of new medical staff to replace the short term migrant contractors. Writing off cost of uni fees for medics over time in line with NHS service. Co-operation with the private sector etc. All sensible policies to recruit and retain staff.

The whole selling off the NHS is scaremongering. When people talk about privatisation most people seem to forget that the majority of GP surgeries, pharamacies, dentists etc are already in private ownership.

Ha ha 10s of billions of additional costs in there....plus we don't have the capacity to train or provide placements......
... & how do you persuade students who wish to study something else to switch to Healthcare?
How would you fill the vacancies this would bring in other areas?

The sectors you mention have always been private....

Amongst other madness, Labour introduced an education tax and find 20 billion black holes every 3 to 4 months.

What a bunch of scoundrels they were.

Did the Tories try to turn immigration around?

Good question, I’d say no

Portakalkedi · 10/09/2025 09:36

The Deputy PM didn't make a 'mistake', she thought she'd get away with it, and apparently refused to take tax advice. If a Tory politician did the same she would be howling for them to resign. Many politician are corrupt and dishonest, but I imagine are at least smart enough to seek proper guidance on how to get away with their dodgy dealings and keep them on the right side of the law.

They introduced policies (now adopted by Labour) which have halved legal immigration.

Where have you got those stats from? We've had unprecedented levels of legal migration since Brexit.

My cynical feeling is she thought that as the trust was secret, she could avoid the extra tax but its also possible she just messed up and it was a genuine mistake.
i don't understand why she blamed the conveyancer, that showed a lack of taking responsibility.

She must have known that she could reclaim the tax once her son was 18?

Its all v odd but she had go, pity she strung it out.

So its bad stuff - Labours fault, Good stuff - Tories take credit ??

btw i'm not arguing with you over the policy, its just that we get told "Lab in Govt now, stop blaming the Tories"

So the opposite must also be true?

Alexandra2001 · 10/09/2025 09:59

Looks like the Tories increased migration from the moment they came into power....to boost gdp growth...

Yet Con supporters very quiet on this...

I answered a question by the pp, asking what the tories did on immigration. My post was true to the best of my knowledge.
I did not imply any 'fault' towards Labour, and have always credited them for keeping those policies, which they could have scrapped.

But it’s now totally irrelevant what the Tories did. We’re now about a quarter of the way through Labours time in office. It’s not about what the Tories did or didn’t do - that ship has sailed - its about what are Labour doing.

That is true but I think you’re focusing on the wrong poster, @TheNuthatchwas just responding to a question. People who didn’t vote Labour can easily see they are in power and should be accountable now.

No, just fed up with the db standards.... if pp's want to blame them when things go wrong, regardless of the inheritance, then goods things are also down to Lab.

I commented on your graph, clearly shows migration on a upward steep curve from 2011.

Not running with anything.

It is not 'db standards' to point out that the tories introduced those policies which have now halved legal migration. It is a fact, and was a response to a direct question by the pp.

I look forward to the day where you finally admit that this government are a useless shower of shite.

@TheNuthatch the point is why are you trying to show anyone is a "shower of shit"; I think we have all agreed now that the cons really were a shower of shit, and in my view labour are not at all perfect but they are doing a hell of a lot better, and that group of chancers who are Reform will certainly do a lot worse! Why not focus on the job in hand which is uniting our country rather than trying to divide us

Why would Labour in particular need to be exempt from criticism?
