AIBU to say it isn't unexpected, or a surprise?

@WithIcePlease I think DS got money from the NHS. As the NHS pays £billions out in compensation every year, it was, in effect, our money. DS was very premature but his money was meant for him. The question is, did she help herself to it? Was he going to visit the Brighton flat and would it ever be his home? She just appears grabby really.

I think it does create a potentially expensive precedent for HMRC to use that people should have formal tax advice on stamp duty transactions rather than relaying on the conveyancer as most of us do.

No, it doesn't. You need formal advice if your situation is complex. Hers was complex because of the trust,

Brunettesmorefun · 05/09/2025 15:27

I think it’s a good thing. Hopefully Mr Starmer will follow before they completely destroy the country.
What a shambles!

Why, because she comes from the working class North? 😂

So she keeps reminding us at every opportunity. Thank heavens she's gone. Absolute pain.

None of that is the question, because the living arrangements of someone else’s disabled child is absolutely none of our business.

The house was in trust because it was protected in her divorce, and so rather than being split between her and her ex partner, went to the kids.

That’s all anyone needs to know, frankly I think it’s more than we need to know.

What is it with the public and thinking the private lives of people in authority is their business.

It's all so grubby and really explains why she was stirring up the party about the reduction in welfare - her son was probably going to loss some cash. She was just in it for herself. Not for the benefit of others. Typical union person, grab grab grab.

I reckon she knows how to spell “before,” though. So wanted to check what the PP meant.

So if I leave my house in a trust for the benefit of my step-daughter in law and step-grandchild (which is my intention, and I must get round to making my will), would the trustees count as owners for SDLT?

Largely depends on the type of trust.

If your step DIL is a trustee and her DD is a minor, then I believe so. This is a law which affects parents/guardians of minors who are trustees of a property in trust, ie if a GP leaves property in trust for minor GC and makes the parent a trustee, then the parent is seen as a legal owner as a minor cannot own property. If the property is left to a parent and their minor and the parent is not a trustee, then you would need to take specialist trust advice as thats a far more complex situation than even Rayner’s!

Yes, those terrible unions grabbing weekends, and workers rights and sick pay etc etc for themselves.
No…wait…they got them for everyone. Bastards, eh?

Nope she has resigned as Deputy too. She is now a basic backbench MP.

Yes, and now she can fling her own particular brand of spite from there, only this time at the leadership ... no wonder Keir didn't want to lose her at first

Eastie77Returns · 05/09/2025 15:38

I've just never understood this "authentic voice of the working class" thing tbh. Because she's from 'umble beginnings and had a child at 16?

I don't begrudge her a penny of the money she's earned or any of her properties, she's worked extremely hard. But it's really silly to constantly claim someone born into a working class family remains the voice of that class for their entire lives when they become so far removed from it. It's highly unlikely anyone from her original background could relate to the life she lives today - an £800,000k flat in addition to the other one(s) and single items of clothing that cost what some people earn in a week or month.

I think it’s a great shame. Watching the corrupt Tories, corrupt and power seeking individuals, hounding out a working class person who yes, has probably made a few shitty decisions on her way up towards some semblance of equality is an absolutely disgusting indictment of Britain and its ever-more-degenerate culture and state.

I don’t like it that a woman had to mention the effect on her family either. Contrast that with Ian Murray’s comments.

This nation and all of the women who give it its life, as we have always given life to all men everywhere, are all absolutely fucked.

I must admit, I feel quite saddened by Angela Rayner’s resignation.

While she wasn’t without her flaws, she brought a rare combination of authenticity, working-class credibility, and conviction to frontline politics — qualities that are increasingly scarce.

Her departure raises genuine concerns about the future direction of the party. Without her voice, there’s a real risk that Labour may drift further toward the centre-right.

The sustained campaign from sections of the right-wing press to discredit her has clearly taken its toll. It’s a sobering and disturbing reminder of the influence the media can wield in shaping narratives.

Not it's a reminder that's liars and cheats get caught.

Tontostitis · 05/09/2025 15:40

Except she didn’t lie. That’s very clear in t(e report. She just failed to get extra specialist advice, which had been recommended by her solicitors. It’s clear she was open about the situation throughout, and she had it in writing that she didn’t need to pay more than she did - with a caveat that she should get specialist advice to check. She didn’t do that, which was stupid. But it isn’t lying, or cheating.

Asweexpected · 05/09/2025 15:42

Great leadership, managed with integrity. KS upped the anti on the back of Tori corruption. He listened to public criticism of the Tories getting away with loads. ( Has Michelle Moan payed her ill gotten gains back yet?)

Open and honest letter from AR.

Sad that a working class female, who really knows how it is has made a mistake that quite rightly she has admitted and acted accordingly.

I don't know why anyone would out themselves through standing in public office. The intrusion, the criticism.

When will people realise that North of Watford is inhabited by many from South of it? Myself included.
Who do you think runs all the businesses here? The middle classes, those who employ people.
You need to travel around your own country a bit more and learn something.

We should be judging politicians based on their merit, commitment to their role, and impact.

I gave absolutely zero fucks, for example, how many kids Boris has. Not interested.

Angela Rayner’s ex husband, disabled child and where they all live is nothing to do with me or anyone else.

She underpaid, fair enough. Get the rest paid and everyone can leave the personal circumstances of people they’ve never met out of it.

WaryCrow · 05/09/2025 15:46

Tontostitis · 05/09/2025 15:40

Not it's a reminder that's liars and cheats get caught.

Define liars and cheats in the country with a reinvigorated class system built on a conquest a thousand years ago, that gave us Enclosure and then the new Enclosure of Buy-to-let. Define liars and cheats in a country of landlords who have the sheer unmitigated lying gall to claim they’re doing it for their disempowered tenants good. Define liars and cheats in the country containing the world’s largest money laundering capital. Define liars and cheats in a country where Farage, Johnson, Cameron and even Blair, for very different reasons, still have so much power!!

All the criminals are wearing suits.

God I wish I had never been born in this filthy degenerate country.

Yes, the whole ‘I’m Northern, me!’ was insufferable.
But calling Tories ‘scum’ should have been the end of her career years ago. She lasted a lot longer than she should have.

One of the worst things is that she inflated the price of her share of the house she 'sold' to her son's trust, so that she got more of his money. In what world is that acceptable behaviour.

Is that actually legal for a trustee to do so?

There’s no suggestion she did anything illegal with the trust. That’s just made up by people who hate her.

All of the businesses?

Bold claim. I’m from Middlesbrough, and I’m perfectly capable of running a business from my home in the North West, that covers the entire country.

My former CEO - from Hull. The one before that? Liverpool.

All from traditional working class, council estate, beginnings. We can do things too, and do them well.

We’ll stop talking about a class divide when you stop facilitating one with nonsense statements like “the middle class run everything.”

What. A. Snob.
