The person involved was a biological male who identified as a female. Very angry person. Wanted to kill children.

Surely eventually some action might be taken to prevent or reduce the likelihood of more school shooting?

Just horrific

"Arm the dolls" indeed..... horrendous levels of mental illness in the US atm

allusernamesaretakennow · 29/08/2025 13:09

Just looking at the picture of the shooter! Mental illness? What is going on that young people feel the need to kill their peers in mass shootings.

They have been 268 mass shootings in the USA this year.

Americans love their guns more than they love their children.

MidnightPatrol · 29/08/2025 13:12

There never will be any action, because they cannot comprehend being not able to arm themselves against the threat of guns.

A catch 23, driven by their insanely high rate of gun ownership and number of guns in the country.

As to why do they do it… anger and notoriety. Killing children is the worst thing they could do, so they target them.

In 2023, there were 46,728 firearm-related deaths in the USA.

Again, wow, what a statistic. I guess not enough to want to change things though.

I saw a tweet years ago that said the gun debate ended with Columbine - once it was deiced that that was acceptable collateral it was clear that nothing would change

nope, I got it wrong. it was this

"In retrospect Sandy Hook marked the end of the US gun control debate. Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over." — Dan Hodges.

The American NRA will undoubtedly claim that, ' the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.'

But I've always thought, what about a law that stops the bad guy getting a gun in the first place?

allusernamesaretakennow · 29/08/2025 13:17

On a side issue, im pleased the police are referring to the shooter as a man. Yesterday the BBC online article said the shooter was a she. I wont reproduce that nonsense here, typical BBC though. Its a bloody biological male. Most shooters are male, not all, but the vast majority.

This person obviously had serious mental health problems and needed to be helped, possibly as an in patient. Instead of which, they got hold of assault weapons and murdered children at prayer.
However, not even this horror will change gun laws in the USA.

You see, that's logical!

FenderStrat · 29/08/2025 13:24

Barack Obama really did try to introduce sensible gun laws in America.
The second he mentioned his plans, the sale of assault rifles went through the roof.
I think some states did introduce some restrictions on the type of rifle that could be sold.

MadisonMarieParksValetta · 29/08/2025 13:26

It's big business. The NRA have so much control over politics there is literally zero chance of anything ever changing. Doesn't matter how many children die. Fucking disgusting country.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 29/08/2025 13:30

So tragic. I have relatives that have moved to the USA and I often question why. Why would you want to live somewhere where your children could be shot at. Also where women’s rights are being slowly stripped away.

MyGreyStork · 29/08/2025 13:33

The fact they are trans is not relevant. It’s the fact that guns are readily available and easy to source that is the problem. America caused their own problem.

Yes, the trans issue is immaterial. This person expressed a desire to murder children, and they should have been stopped.
