To think that surely Rayner has to go.

Blankscreen · 29/08/2025 09:33

Well well well.

So now it emerges that Rayner rearranged her property affairs and declared to HMRC that her new flat in Brighton is her main residence and saved £40k on the SDLT bill as a result.

She has then apparently declared to the local councils the complete opposite.

I'm sure slimeball Kier will defend and say it was perfectly legal blah blah blah.

Not to mention she has a grace and favour house funded by tax payers in London as her constituency office is so far away. Yet she 'lives' in Brighton - surely she could just commute that distance like may others do every day.

Surely she has to go.

I personally don't want my daughter to relate to someone who was pregnant as a teenager and has few qualifications. That's not who I want as a role model for her. Or someone who calls other MPs "scum" in public.

I don’t think that’s fair - she’s a good role model in that you can make mistakes in your youth but it doesn’t write off your whole future

i don’t like her as a politician because of the scum comments and similar but I can’t think of any politician who doesn’t have unpalatable traits these days

TizerorFizz · 29/08/2025 13:46

There’s reports she’s getting divorced so whose property is this? Hers or ex? She’s very stupid to buy somewhere now though. Wait until assets are split from the marriage, surely ?

Sorry, I fundamentally disagree with the role model part but that's OK 😊

In terms of the PM living in Downing Street I don’t think that’s a fare comparison.

It’s exactly the same thing.

I don’t believe it is
They run their office from there
They need to be on hand all the time
Need additional security
Not convinced any of those would work from his house in Kentish Town

Thats not to say he shouldn’t be charged a much higher council tax if he leaves his Kentish Town properly empty. Pms should, however, be allowed to keep their home to go back too when they are no longer PM.

BIossomtoes · 29/08/2025 13:52

I actually think she’s an excellent role model. She was born into unbelievable disadvantage. She worked hard in the kind of job most people see as beneath them, used her considerable intellect to rise through the union infrastructure and inspired enough faith and trust to get elected to parliament. To hold one of the most senior roles in government from the start in life she had is truly remarkable. I can’t imagine any of her critics has a fraction of her achievements.

JustMyView13 · 29/08/2025 13:54

Nope. I don't think she should.
She has legally rejigged her estate to limit the amount of tax she pays on a house purchase. Something many have done before her, many will do after her, and something that is perfectly legal.
Whether ethically you agree with it, is another debate. But on the scale of unethical things politicians have done, I would argue this sits quit far down.

Are we angry that Nigel Farage is taking a salary and not showing up for debates as an MP? Are we angry at all the paid employment he has which does not involve serving his constituency? Asking for a friend...

TizerorFizz · 29/08/2025 13:55

She would be a good role model if she played by the rules. She’s rough but people like rough in politics don’t they? Until these people use their position to circumvent their own policies!

HRTQueen · 29/08/2025 13:59

The tix loopholes need to be tightened I just wish Labour would do something about it

This is something that AR has banged on about for years and now she is in position to take advantage of them she has, how disappointing.

Of course she has to go

Superhansrantowindsor · 29/08/2025 14:03

Surely an MP’s main residence should be in their constituency? I don’t have a problem with her having a grace and favour in London but the flat is clearly a holiday home and the correct tax should be paid. This absolutely stinks and I can’t believe it’s not on the BBC. Absolutely outrageous that she has done this.

Yes I am angry NF is an MP, though the less time he in the HOP the better as unfortunaly he receives far too much media attention when he makes a speech

I expect better from Labour MP's that is why I vote Labour. They are meant to be the party that wants to create a better society for us all so I expect those that represent the party, especially at such a high level not to take advantage of loopholes that suit those that are more well off and has a negative impact on those that are not

I expect MP's go follow with what they preach ... I do not think that is too much to ask but sadly seems to be too much to expect now

For a party that has spent the past month flying political kites about how best to shaft property owners at the next budget in a few weeks it feels like pretty shady behaviour to me. It's not ethical behaviour for her to implement policies forced on to other people which she herself avoids.

Farage is far from perfect and doesn't seem to be a good constituency MP but I do feel like he is on the side of ordinary people who pay tax and don't break the law. I don't feel like Angela Raynor is on my side or represents me.

Before calling for her to I’d want to know how many other MPs have done this over the years and how many of the general population do it

She hasn’t got three houses. One belongs to her, one has been signed over to her ex and the third belongs to the nation.

I don’t feel this way about Farage. Could you point me to some of his policy commitments that might help persuade me he is on the side of the people?

She’s awful, thick and grasping.

What makes you think she's thick?
Her accent, by any chance?

Maybe, but I can’t help thinking no-one would give a shit if she was (a) male, (b) posh, and (c) a Tory.

Some people really really hate working class people who don’t stay in their lane.

We only ever see her when there's a photo opportunity.

You have a very low bar. There are many truly inspirational female role models - Angela Rayner will never be one of them.

Not everyone is born into a family where education is valued. Her mother was illiterate. I think she has done pretty well considering! I think she’s a marvellous role model for girls. A lot of her criticism is classist.
