To think that surely Rayner has to go.

Blankscreen · 29/08/2025 09:33

Well well well.

So now it emerges that Rayner rearranged her property affairs and declared to HMRC that her new flat in Brighton is her main residence and saved £40k on the SDLT bill as a result.

She has then apparently declared to the local councils the complete opposite.

I'm sure slimeball Kier will defend and say it was perfectly legal blah blah blah.

Not to mention she has a grace and favour house funded by tax payers in London as her constituency office is so far away. Yet she 'lives' in Brighton - surely she could just commute that distance like may others do every day.

Surely she has to go.

So does she not have a house in her constituency anymore? Thought they had to. 🤷🏻‍♀️. I do hear she’s never seen and her constituents are fed up with her

you would think so but apparently there isn’t a requirement for an MP to have a property/live in their constituency. A Parish Councillor has to have lived or worked in their parish for at least 12 months before being eligible to stand for election or co-option. It should be the same for prospective MP’s, this would also stop people being ‘parachuted’
in to safe seats and would ensure that those standing had some link with the area they wish to represent.

Maddy70 · 29/08/2025 11:16

It's the rhetoric around this. That's distasteful. She didnt do anything wrong, but the fact she is a working lass girl done well is where the vitriol lies more than for any other politician.
Successful females still face more challenges

RobustPastry · 29/08/2025 11:18

YABU every single one of you wishing for a Tory or Reform gov. We would be exponentially fucked as a country, the most vulnerable among us especially destitute. yes we’re still in a horrible grind but Labour are doing the best they can with the cards they’ve been dealt

I’m not too fussed where Rayner where lives in the greater scheme of things are long as she keeps her eye on the ball and does a decent job. And thank fuck Tony Blair is back on the scene. May he return to politics in a much bigger way as soon as possible.

Champere · 29/08/2025 11:21

I believe a house purchased as a result of divorce or in preparation for a divorce or separation doesn’t attract the SDLT surcharge for additional properties. Still doesn’t look great though and doesn’t answer why she declared the opposite to the local authority.

Lafufufu · 29/08/2025 11:23

I cannot believe
A. The stupidity
B. The audacity

Agree with the comment upthread about animal farm.
Every fucker is being squeezed for taxes and she's dodging 40k net with easily exposed/ poorly concealed lies

Blankscreen · 29/08/2025 11:24

For me it's got nothing to do with the fact she's a woman.

Where does she actually live??? Brighton or Tamesdie. Seems to be different answers for different authorities.

£40,000 would pay WF allowance to quite a few pensioners

She 💯 should go for this but many other reasons too!

and if this was Tory or reform mp the press would literally hound them out ! Another example of two tier society we have. It’s disgusting

No they wouldn’t. They wouldn’t even print it because they’d see problem in Tory or Reform MPs doing it!

At least we're already over a year in, so only just under 4 years left of this nonsense. Hopefully, they'll call an early election maybe in 3 years' time depending on how bad things get, as there may be a "window" where they think they'll escape being completely decimated at the next GE and try to salvage some of their seats and MP's even when they know for certain they won't win the next GE (personally I think it's already a foregone conclusion they won't win the next GE!).

How much worse can things get?

ruffler45 · 29/08/2025 11:32

Just seen a news item that the ex Thai PM has been removed from office for an "ethics violation", now there is an interesting point for dealing with politicians and their actions..

Vaxtable · 29/08/2025 11:34

All those complaining about the Tories and how Labour would be better are now seeing the truth

all parties are full of shitty MPs out for themselves and don’t give a damn about constituents.

The only issue with Labour is that they can’t run a country, unless it’s into the ground. That was proved last time and Rachel has managed it QuickTime this time round.

LarkspurLane · 29/08/2025 11:35

Who would people like to see replace her?

I would suggest that the majority of politicians have very little life, financial and commercial experience to run anything never mind a country. A degree in politics just in not enough..

nongnangning · 29/08/2025 11:44

Malcolm would not have responded well to the photos of Angela in an inflatable boat, vaping in a camo DryRobe.

I don't agree with this. I think Malcolm would have been all in favour.
There are plenty of working people who enjoy a vape in their dryrobe inflatable. She doesn't look very "Me & Em", agreed. She looks like a British working class person who has a bit of cash, at the seaside. But maybe that's the point!

Somersetbaker · 29/08/2025 12:14

JLou08 · 29/08/2025 10:21

I don't agree with what she has done but I wonder if the same people saying she needs to go are the same who would advise high earners on how to get more out of the state. I've seen so many comments to high earners about paying extra pension, reducing hours etc to get just below the 100,000 salary so they can claim benefits from the state (childcare and child benefit). That's no different to what Raynor has done. I find people are very selective in which tax dodging and claiming from the state is acceptable.

Most of her critics are just jealous that they didn't think of it first. Anyway, even if she still owned the house in Tameside, she could reclaim the extra stamp duty if she disposed of it in three years. It's a total non-story being stirred up by right wing press, to detract from the the activities of Farage, Tice and Yaxley-Lennon.

RoseGlass7 · 29/08/2025 12:37

Yanbu. One rule for the plebs and another for the politicians.

MaidOfSteel · 29/08/2025 12:41

Don’t get me wrong, I can’t bear Angela Rayner, but she hasn’t done anything that loads of MPs (of all parties) have done. I think it all needs to stop: no switching here and there to suit whatever tax they’re trying to avoid.

We need our politicians to start being honest and paying their due taxes in the same way we do. We can’t avoid them. This is a terrible look from any MP, let alone the deputy prime minister.

I despair of our politicians; they are shameful and an embarrassment to the nation.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 29/08/2025 12:41

She got away with paying capital gains tax when she sold her last property, claiming it was her main residence when it clearly wasn't. The woman is not only stupid but she has no morals.

Deepbluesea1 · 29/08/2025 12:43

92andyou · 29/08/2025 09:56

My understanding is that she’s got divorced - so the house is going to be her primary residence.

And her husband has been given the other house.

So - not so dramatic.

So she doesn't have a residence in her constituency anymore? What is she doing in Brighton?

I disagree with your point about the media. I find that they’re very anti Labour 🤷🏻‍♀️

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 29/08/2025 12:46

She might have abided by the law but she comes across as a Grade A grifter. Continually swapping which is your main residence to avoid various taxes is poor optics, especially when you’ve been as vocal about tax dodging as she has. She’s either thick or doesn’t give a toss.

Why does she live in Brighton when her constituency is in Tameside?

Because she is a greedy chancer with her nose in the trough. Can't stand her.
