Just a chat to understand what’s going on with the influx of England and UJ flags all over the streets?

thoughts?
where did it stem from?
is it making you uncomfortable? (It is, me, but not entirely sure why)

No one’s setting the tone ? Right…

. I just can't see what the point is of exchanging insults, other than a temporary release of pent up anger, it achieves nothing. Other than to harden attitudes and unfortunately, as is now very likely, send more people into the arms of reform. But if we don't put down our verbal weapons and stop demonizing people or engaging in culture wars, farage will be our new leader. Poorer communities in large cities are the most effected by immigration, they therefore deserve to be heard.

HangryLikeTheHulk · 01/09/2025 23:19

Daubing red lines on a mini-roundabout is a funny way of “being heard”.

R0ckandHardPlace · 02/09/2025 06:38

If we can step outside the bickering between both sides for a second, in short the message we’re hearing from those flying flags, attending rallies, protesting outside migrant hotels and shouting abuse at the residents, defacing signs and painting roundabouts is “We don’t want these people with brown skin in our country. They are an inferior race and not worthy of being here”.

That is Nazi party levels of shit and it terrifies a large proportion of our population.

I can't say that's the message I'm hearing at all. The one I hear is we are not happy with the sheer volume of undocumented groups of fighting age men whose criminal history or even real identity we will never know being allowed to roam our streets. Nothing about sending 'brown' people or families home.

That term is loaded - suggests they’re here to cause violence. But you never see these muppets labelled “fighting age”…

No, that’s what you’re hearing because of your own prejudice. What I’m hearing is we don’t want a load of people who we have no idea who they are, who have come from countries with cultures very different to ours, who, given experience are very unlikely to successfully integrate, roaming our streets, using our resources and often getting preferential treatment to our own citizens. That is the message coming from protesters

Thats your opinion which you are entitled to, just like I am mine. Doesn't mean you or I are right though.

HangryLikeTheHulk · 02/09/2025 08:31

It’s not the message coming across. At all. Either it’s not being clearly articulated, or it’s in a code which sounds awfully like racism.

You only ever hear this “fighting age” epithet applied to asylum seekers in order to add a fictional layer of imaginary threat and menace. It’s all part of painting them as bogeymen by racists.

Who else do you want it applied to? I’ve heard it plenty before applied to the me. Of the UK when they stood up and fought those trying to change our way of life in the wars.

That was in reference to conscription to actually fight in a war, which was actually happening at the time.

These are asylum seekers !

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 02/09/2025 09:05

I do find it interesting when I hear people trying to change this into a “it’s an anti brown people” thing. For various reasons I have a lot of friends who are Hindu. They are amongst the most vocal people I know in respect of the influx of undocumented immigrants. Are they “anti brown people”?

Yes, men who didn’t flee their country in times of threat, but stood up and fought to ensure we could live in a free country, if we keep encouraging men of fighting age to flee their countries rather than standing up to their oppressors things will never change there. This country is only free and attractive to immigrants because our men of fighting age stood up to oppression

The reason many of the asylum seekers countries are screwed is ALSO because our fighting age men stood up…

Oh so that's their justification for fleeing their so called horrific conditions at home and leaving their women and children to suffer? Says a lot about them as people that they don't stay and protect them.

You clearly know very little about this. They’re going on ahead to find work and stability so they can bring their families out too. You can learn more here:

https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/briefings/afghan-asylum-seekers-and-refugees-in-the-uk/

The profile of resettled Afghans contrasts with that of Afghans granted asylum, among whom a majority in the period analysed were adult men. This trend, observed across other nationalities, is related to the tendency of men to migrate first, often through dangerous and unauthorised routes, and later apply to bring their families on refugee family reunion visas after they have been granted asylum. Between Q2 2021 to Q2 2024, 94% of all Afghans granted refugee family reunion were women and children (Figure 8).

It’s a lot more involved than belming at hotels and daubing road markings with red paint could ever address.

Asylum and refugee resettlement in the UK - Migration Observatory

This briefing sets out key facts and figures, as well as information gaps, relating to migration to the UK, specifically refugees and asylum seekers. It looks at overall numbers, characteristics of asylum seekers, and outcomes of asylum applications.

I’m sorry but we cannot support this number of people. Are they all paying for private healthcare and private education. The vast majority are applying to have their families join them within a month of arriving, before they can work, luckily that is now going to change.

Western military intervention in Afghanistan is a key cause of the refugee crisis from that country.

The 2001 invasion and 20 years of conflict left Afghanistan unstable and dependent. When NATO forces withdrew in 2021, the sudden collapse of the Afghan government and Taliban takeover sparked a surge in people fleeing, especially those who had worked with Western forces or feared repression.

Afghanistan has always been unstable tbh. The key cause of the current position is the Islamic theocracy. It was an unstable place to live in before the war. They need to sort it out internally to stop any need for further western intervention. We should be equipping the men to make the country stable

what about the other over 80%

Namelessnelly · 02/09/2025 10:49

Surely if the countries the refugees are fleeing from are so dangerous, we’d be seeming a greater proportion of women, children and the elderly amongst the refugees wouldn’t we? Either the country is safe enough for the most vulnerable to survive, or these men are fleeing the country leaving the vulnerable to fend for themselves.
