havent got a car yet, my dp is taking lessons and will be getting a car when he passes but people who say they cant live without there car are surely stupid ?
havent they heard of the bus or tram etc ?
i have two kids and one on the way and i will still use public transport when we have a car!
plus i walk 25 mins to school and 25 mins back twice a day i just think people who rely on there car for everything are just plain lazy,
i agree it is nice to have a car but its not everything!
sorry if you feel diffrent but thats how i feel!

consider the source, Lucky.

I live in a town (or on the edge of one).

We have buses.

I even have access to a train station.

But the practicalities of my day-to-day life mean that they're not viable for me in my current situation.

DS2+DS3 go to school 2 miles in one direction, and I work 5-6 miles in the other. I have to take them to school most mornings before I go to work, and I have to collect most afternoons after work.

The buses don't fit in timewise with the schoolrun, but even if they did, I'd still not have enough time to work my hours.

expatinscotland · 31/05/2008 01:09

i know, hana. i need to dream up a way to magic up a bus around here .

lins1uk · 31/05/2008 01:09

well it not does that make me a bad person?
im not the one poluting the planet anyway!
people who drive round the corner to the shop ect are!
i reuse plastic bags and recycle but i dont go overboard!

expatinscotland · 31/05/2008 01:11

oh, no, calling people who live in places with no public transport stupid and lazy isn't going overboard.

if you live in a village or far away from school, work ect then i totally understand why you need your car im talking about people that live in a city or whatever and if there car breaks down feel like its the end of the world im just say some people can live without there car!

Actually expat I think the overboard bit was directed at me complaining about lins1uk and her single handed mission to destroy the planet

expatinscotland · 31/05/2008 01:13

aaaaaaarrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhh!

pedant alert!

their car. it's their car.

their is the possessive pronoun.

LuckySalem · 31/05/2008 01:14

I understand what your saying "yes some people can live without their car" but calling them stupid and lazy is not nice!

1dilemma · 31/05/2008 01:15

so lins1uk how would you go about getting those city dwellers out of their cars?
how do you stop the school run traffic for starters?

lins1uk · 31/05/2008 01:15

i wont eat my words because dp will be at work til late everyday so i wont rely on it at all in america its diffrent from over here.

i couldnt live without mine

4 kids, one a wheelchair user, tiny village, public transport shit

i used to walk 4 miles a day before i could drive, just doing the school run, and got stress fractures in both my feet from it

so i wont apologise for needing mine, whatever you feel , lol

expatinscotland · 31/05/2008 01:16

somehow, 1dil, i don't think calling them stupid and lazy will get them out of their cars, IYKWIM.

unknownrebelbang · 31/05/2008 01:17

Will DP become stupid and lazy?

Or is learning how to be become stupid and lazy part of the driving test these days?

I do consider myself to be lazy, fwiw, but not when it comes to driving to school/work.

expatinscotland · 31/05/2008 01:18

I found the road test pretty challenging, considering how stupid and lazy car ownership is and all.

lins1uk · 31/05/2008 01:22

dp has a motorcycle that he uses for work which is over 30 mins away but he has walked when its been broken before,
im not sorry at all for posting this thread everyone has there own opinion and are allowed to express it,
just saying it doesnt hurt to use your legs how do you think they went on before cars?
