Is anyone better off since Labour

1000 replies

Luckymum20 · 26/08/2025 20:26

I am not just talking financially but feeling optimistic about the future for children, old age.

With the £22 billion debt now pasing £50 billion.

The increase in Council tax (that they said the wouldn't do). OAPs raid on pensions and no Winter fuel relief. Changes to finance regarding care homes. Utilities up. TV licence up. Food costs up...

I know minimum wage has increased but all costs have increased by a greater amount!

In 2021 minimum wage was almost 30% lower than it is now...

So I ask. Is anyone actually feeling better off, optimistic and pleased with this Government.

Also the October budget of likely to bring more stains on the 'average working man"

YABU - change will happen. It a good thing.

YANBU - not good

No. They’ve peaked too soon. If there was a general election tomorrow I’d be very afraid but time’s not on their side. Four years is an eternity in politics. And they’ll have a four year record of mismanaging/non achievement in councils by 2029.

Yes and if they have come out with taxes to Taliban at this stage where the hell does it go from here on in!

It's not highly unusual at all, you're just uninformed. It's exactly the same in my constituency.
Same in Rayner's constituency. She too is forecast to lose her seat to Reform.

You can apologise.

Plenty of options.... the pp said LD and Greens don't stand, i just don't believe no other candidates available.

How Bizarre. Are you trying to brow beat and bully someone into voting the way you think is best? You know that never works.

I'm sure Russia would welcome our taxes to host migrants, maybe even send them to Ukraine o fight? , N.Korea too, after all, if it gets rid of Labour... anything clearly goes with a few posters on here.

For anyone that doesn't know, the Taliban killed over 400 UK servicemen and women.

Yes, it can actually get much worse.

Did you read what pp said? "No other options" all i ve done is shown this is false.

I actually didn't know the number of servicemen and women who lost their lives in Afghanistan was so high.

I did read the thread. Your pattern of behaviour is “brow beating” it’s tedious, petty, and ruins the conversation. Accept that not everyone agrees with you. Accept that you are not omniscient and you don’t know better what people should think than they do.

My nephew did 2 tours there, i had no idea people would still vote for a party that would be willing to fund such people.... & thats before we get to their barbaric treatment of women and girls.

Clearly patriotism is lost on many voters, despite their flagshagging.

So who would you vote for in Rayner's constituency if your sole aim was to remove Labour? Hint - it's not the Lib Dems.

It really doesn't matter what you do and don't believe. I know that may be difficult for you to absorb.

And who sent them to Afghanistan?
I had no idea people would for a party that sent our troops to war (without the proper equipment) on a lie.

Farming background thankyou, you can find out for yourself, you wont believe me, hence the NFU ?

Dry weather yes, costs passed on....the Dairy/cattle/sheep farmers i know are making a fortune and thats great because for years they have not....

One on MN has boasted how much she is making from Lamb prices.

The downside is in inflation, which you will then have a go at Labour over....

If you value the countryside, Reform will remove all protections, see their fracking ideas?
You r concerned about our changing climate? Reform follow Trumps views on this.

No one who values our natural world should be wanting Reform in charge.

Presumably I am the poster who was ‘boasting’ about lamb prices. Prices have gone up due to supply and demand. However farmers are leaving the industry in their droves. I’d get banned if I posted what I really think. I won’t reply

I haven’t checked, but I bet we give Afghanistan money already.

It was horrendous. Don’t you remember the footage of all those coffins coming through Wootton Bassett?

I believe they were there as part of the NATO task force for nine years under a Labour government and eleven years under a Tory one.

Of course I remember the coffins coming through Wootten Bassett.

Atina321 · 28/08/2025 17:18

I’m not any worse off. And the reinstatement of the “Sure Start” centres under a different name is a very good thing and a wise use of the budget - giving children a good start in life will reap benefits in the future. Hopefully the investment in young people will trickle through to schools shortly - although the investment in children will also benefit schools as they will hopefully have to spend less time on bringing social skills up to scratch and can concentrate on actually teaching children instead of having to parent them. Young people having safe spaces they and their parents can get support will make such a difference in many communities.

I’m sorry to disappoint you. As a military wife, daughter and now stepmum, I’ve accepted all my life that signing up means unconditional loyalty and the government of the day can send troops into any situation it chooses. The injury and loss of life is awful, particularly when it’s someone you know but we don’t conscript people and everyone who signs up does so knowing what their chosen career entails. I totally admire those who are brave enough to do it. I know I wouldn’t be.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 28/08/2025 17:30

The problem Labour have, as I see it, is that they played the same populist card as Farage. The only difference is that instead of tacking it to immigration they promised the electorate that they could improve public services without raising taxes or cutting spending.

That was doomed to fail, and has failed, because they didn't have, and still don't have, a coherent vision, strategy or any plans to actually deliver on that promise. As a result we have a barrage of kite flying to sound out how the public or businesses will respond to various possible measures - and guess what, they don't like any of them. Making up policy on the hoof is never going to lead to good results.

Take the latest kite flying - NI on landlords. There's no link between the act of letting out property and the notional reason for NI. Why not just do something bold, wrap NI and income tax together. That does three things; it simplifies the tax system, it breaks the link between NI contributions and the state pension, laying the ground for means testing it in the future, and it at a stroke taxes the governments favourite target - those who have retired or who live on unearned income. Do that while raising the personal allowance so that those at the bottom aren't negatively impacted and you have a plan.

But, because of the populist pre-election claim not to increase those things from an employee perspective they don't want to touch them. Instead, they've clobbered growth, investment and economic stability for the whole country, and weakened our position globally - see increasing bond yields and the governments ever increasing borrowing, and cost of borrowing.

If you'll be dead why would you be worrying?

But we live in a global world, if you mean by cowboys American MNCs, Trump is threatening to increase tariff against countries like Spain, France for introducing digital tax to be paid by major technology firms as most of them are from US. So increasing tax against those in powerful position is always tricky.

Clearly AI response! Hilarious bit of coding there.

Exactly! Most people are completely ignorant of how much money farmers actually make. They "other" you in the same way they "other" every group they go after.
The cost of raising lambs has gone up, especially this year but the issue is that most people aren't prepared to pay a price that actually represents the cost to produce a lamb/pint of milk/crop.
Then they come on here spouting bollocks about rich farmers.

Well it’s well known how Brexit and the removal of EU subsidies has shafted UK farming- and whose fault was that?
