Is anyone better off since Labour

1000 replies

Luckymum20 · 26/08/2025 20:26

I am not just talking financially but feeling optimistic about the future for children, old age.

With the £22 billion debt now pasing £50 billion.

The increase in Council tax (that they said the wouldn't do). OAPs raid on pensions and no Winter fuel relief. Changes to finance regarding care homes. Utilities up. TV licence up. Food costs up...

I know minimum wage has increased but all costs have increased by a greater amount!

In 2021 minimum wage was almost 30% lower than it is now...

So I ask. Is anyone actually feeling better off, optimistic and pleased with this Government.

Also the October budget of likely to bring more stains on the 'average working man"

YABU - change will happen. It a good thing.

YANBU - not good

Agreed. But Reeves will have to break her promises and increase tax. She’s exhausted every other option - there’s nothing left. People will resent the hell out of it, but - she’s got no choice.

Just helps to reinforce our decision to leave.

I think it will be an economic disaster if they last the remaining four years! Every business I have knowledge of, from one man bands to 2k employees are really feeling it.

In our household the teenagers PT jobs wages have increased, but their hours have been cut to almost zero as the small businesses they work for are struggling so much.

Yup. One of my clients has a couple of convenience stores - he was planning on opening a third, but has scrapped his plans as a result of the NIC hike, business cost inflation (utilities etc), food price inflation, etc. Both his other shops are seeing a decline in turnover and increased overheads - the higher wages costs are crippling resulting from both the hike in NMW and employers NIC. Also business rates increases, electric costs through the roof, and customers reigning in their spending. He's seriously considering closing/selling one of them.

I stood next Lisa Head in an officers’ mess bar not long before she went to Afghanistan. She was a tiny little thing, vivacious and resplendent in her mess kit. What happened to her was bloody horrific, not least because she didn’t die instantly. You’re absolutely right @Alexandra2001. Anyone applauding giving our money to the Taliban has no claim to be civilised.

ThatWaryOchreQuoter · 27/08/2025 19:22

Absolutely correct. But it would be 19 years since the vote in 2035 and I added an extra year on to make the maths easier

A decade is ten years. That’s £31 billion a year.

Now remind me who supported the Iraq war on fake evidence which resulted in a suicide and 100s of needless deaths?

Labour need to focus on working people. That is what the party was founded for. Hence the name "Labour".

They can’t even define who working people are any more

Yes lets go and give our enemy millions... we cannot change the events leading to the Iraq war but we can stop making further errors...

It was also a war the US would have launched regardless.

Though maybe you support giving millions to our enemies?

To be frank, it would be of no surprise.

No i don't but there again I didn't support the Iraq war either. It's a case of "he who casts the first stone" needs to bloody well remember who threw the boulder.

Why would it be "of no surprise"? You presume you know me based on a few threads? Give your head a shake

In other words I’ll introduce a complete irrelevance in a futile bid to derail the thread.

Labour does not represent working people and doesn’t have their best interests at heart. The name now is a red herring. They despise these people.

Pursuing VAT on private school education doesn't exactly scream Labour despising the 'working people'.

🤣 whatever. You can't talk about the Taliban without going back in history. Including how the UK were happy to fund them in the fight against Russia.

Apparently anybody who works hard and saves some money each month is not a working person to labour. It's absolutely idiotic.

So you think Reform's proposal to pay the Taliban, is a good use of Taxpayers' money, money that we don't have for education, hospitals, housing?

I literally said i didn't agree with giving any money to the Taliban so God knows you are saying this. Are you incapable of comprehension?
However what I also said is that the UK has previously had no issue funding the Taliban eg against Russia.

Really? Everyone I know who privately educates their dc works bloody hard and pays an enormous amount of tax. How can they not be considered “working” people?

You ve already failed to condemn Farage & bring up events from the 80s & the Russians to justify.....

Which have zilch to do with a policy we can change by not voting Reform....!!

But I thought you along with others are wanting a Reform win, this is what they stand for they literally declared this yesterday.

I know, it's absolutely ridiculous. Labour seem to only want to appease people on the breadline, but if everyone is on the breadline, who the fuck is going to pay for it all, especially when the people who are actually paying decide they are done and leave? And that isn't the uber rich, they easily avoid taxes, it's the employees making 100k plus and paying 45% taxes. Idiots. I was so happy when the Tories got voted out but Labour are no better and they certainly don't practice what they preach.

I've "failed to condemn" 🤣 wtaf? So me saying I don't agree with it isn't enough, I have to stand on a box in the middle of my village and publicy condem him? Are you on drugs?

I'm sure they do but by your definition everybody is working class which, as you are probably well aware, is not what that poster is referring to.
