To ask if you'll be attending the anti fascism protest on 13 September

Whatafustercluck · 26/08/2025 18:44

I'd like to go in solidarity with like minded people, but worry about it turning violent. I won't be taking my children and will likely be going alone. Lots of people I know detest Tommy Robinson but will stay away due to the likelihood of trouble, but I really want to help send a message that racism and hatred won't win. Is anyone here considering going, or decided to stay away?

Don't tell me I am confused because I do not agree with you.

We are in the 21st century, and I do not think it appropriate to drag up the words used over a hundred years ago.

1919 was the big pandemic, when more millions died of flu than were killed in the war. When I said Hitler started his road to fascism, it was true, he did.

We cannot take a century old ideology and ascribe the same words to today. It makes no sense.

It was less than 100 years ago

You are confused

You have basic history wrong

You have words wrong

You have maths wrong

You brought Hitler up (and said he invented fascism)

Im really sorry but you are so so so wrong, at least read about what you're talking about on a rudimentay level

Calling these people fascists really undermines anyone’s intellect

But how do you square this with the fact that at every protest and behind every protest there are members of fascist organisations?

Thegreyhound · 30/08/2025 07:32

Bannon1985 · 29/08/2025 19:47

Most of those protesting are not racist
They are concerned parents and citizens worried about unvetted potentially dangerous illegal migrants roaming our streets and the loss of communities up and down the country through a large influx of illegal migrants.
They are passing through lots of safe countries on the way to Britain.why do they need to come here.

Statistically, who is most likely to harm a child? Clue, it’s not a stranger.
Additionally, we know that around 40% of protestors outside hotels were found to have DV convictions. So statistically again, who is most likely to harm a woman? Clue, it’s not the people inside the hotels

40% of protestors had DV convictions or 40% of those arrested?
Excuse my language but you are fucking deluded.

Because Christian extremism doesn’t really exist? The two faiths are remarkably similar.

We do not know that 40% of protesters have convictions for domestic violence

But how do you square this with the fact that at every protest and behind every protest there are members of fascist organisations?

There are those that hold extreme views on both the right and the left who infiltrate the group but we can’t do anything about that but be mindful. Those on the opposite assume that the few speak for the majority and that’s the wrong assumption to make.

What we have to look at and focus on, is what that majority think as oppose to the extreme right and extreme left. As an example I would say extreme right views are those who are racist and only want to allow certain people in based on colour which is disgusting. Then on the far left those that want Britain to have open borders for anyone and everyone from
anywhere.

Both of the above examples of extreme views are problematic to society. Most people don’t hold such beliefs thankfully. I go back to my original point being we need to focus on what the majority think and focus on their concerns. Most people are decent and just want to get on with their lives but life is becoming increasingly difficult at the moment and society feels like it’s splitting at the seams. Barley any affordable housing, DR appointments
like hens teeth you get the gist. Adding more people to the mix doesn’t make those issues easier.

The average person doenst know the ins and outs of government spending but from what they can see, a lot is spend on housing asylum seekers. It’s in the news daily, is it £5-7 million? Anyway, they (the public) feel that this isn’t fair and so as the months go on they get more frustrated with a situation that they have been told would stop buy as we all know, it hasn’t. These people are simply normal good people who want their kids to have a decent life and that’s becoming more difficult with each passing year due to a lack of affordable housing as a start. It’s certainly not the fault of illegal/immigrants, it’s the lack of funding and poor decisions made by successive governments going back years and years - they’re all to blame, both the Tories and Labour, but adding more people isn’t making the situation better currently. That’s why people voted Brexit and that was another shambles!

It would be disingenuous of me not to acknowledge the concern of the number of men wandering about in town centres and the concern women feel about their safety. They come from countries with different laws as has been pointed out by other posters, so it can be a cultural clash. It’s fine I’m some countries for a 45 year old man to marry a 13 year old buy here we would be aghast. We need to make sure we educate them that this is not accepted here. In their defence they are a product of their environment. People don’t have these concerns of women and children being housed beside them because they don’t feel intimidated. For balance, women feel intimidated by men in general no matter where they are from and I include British men. Someone pointed out (perhaps you?) that women are more likely to be attacked by men they know and I absolutely agree with that.

Anyway I hope I’ve got my point across in a reasonable manner. It’s not about arguing it’s about trying to understand different perspectives

I didnt know this was happening so thank you for bringing it to my attention

I (Irish lebanese, but British citizen) will be going with my husband (welsh/saffa) who will absolutely protect me and anyone else being targeted violently by gammons

What on earth is a gammon?

What on earth is a gammon?

I think it’s a derogatory word/insult, though not sure who it covers and who it would be used to describe.

Edited to say I’ve just googled it’s an insult to describe white angry people insinuating they look like the colour of a joint of gammon. In any other situation that would be called out but it’s ok to use it to describe someone white it seems

FrippEnos · 30/08/2025 12:56

What on earth is a gammon?

It is a racist (and sexist) term used to describe white males that go red in the face through their rants.

This is one of the best posts I've seen on the matter.

I personally think the press also have a lot to answer for. Even with the court case yesterday, most of the press I've read just have sensational headlines and you really have to read in depth to get to the bottom of the decision.

The bottom line is we are where we are and as much as we would like people to be removed ridiculously quickly, the government cant just load people onto planes and boats and drop them back into France.

There does need to be change. 100%. But I'm not sure how quickly people expect the government to get there. If it was that easy to make changes straight away, we would all be in trouble.

I also wish politicians would stop calling people housed in Asylum hotels illegal immigrants. As soon as they make an application for asylum, they are legally obliged to be heard. Politicians fanning the flames without thinking about the consequences of their words could have some major impacts.

pilates · 30/08/2025 13:55

Gammon seems to be bandied around quite freely on here.

So on one side you have Yaxley-Lennon’s goons and knuckle draggers and on the other side you have the lovely violent, masked up Antifa mob and then you throw in the SWP, who groom kids - what a fucking fun day out!

I feel sorry for the police in all this, who have to keep all those plebs apart.

My thoughts too. What a delightful mix of the unpleasant sections of society.

Ill avoid city centres on that day. Thanks for the heads up OP.

"The bottom line is we are where we are and as much as we would like people to be removed ridiculously quickly, the government cant just load people onto planes and boats and drop them back into France"

Why not?

Trump did it,

And while you are at it, please tell me what the we are paying the French for. Now they won't stop boats if it involves getting their feet wet.

Goodness knows why we call them "Froggies"

It’s the male equivalent of “Karen” I believe. But “Karen” is not popular on here.

Because once they have applied for asylum, their application has to be processed. They cannot be removed according to law.

As far as I can see, this is also the case in the US. Although Trump is also violating US human rights conditions by not allowing people to seek asylum on the border.

However it does look like they will be returned from the UK if asylum application is not approved based on the article below:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-france-treaty-targeting-illegal-crossings-comes-into-force

I notice no one mentions removal from the country is also up

https://migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/resources/briefings/returns-of-unauthorised-migrants-from-the-uk/

But of course the article above does mention its difficult to strictly keep track of all the numbers accurately.

UK-France treaty targeting illegal crossings comes into force

The treaty provides a legal basis for the groundbreaking UK-France ‘one-in, one-out’ pilot scheme.

Forgot the bloody photo 🤦‍♀️

That was bloody hilarious, I roared with laughter when I saw the tv coverage of that. A couple of thousand Brightonians were laughing at a tiny handful of racists who were surrounded by police for their own protection.

There's going to be an anti-racist demo at Falmer station tomorrow at 11am, @Sera1989 , before the football match.

I was going to go, but I've been put on a course of strong immuno-suppressants, so am avoiding crowds until I stop taking them.
