For those of you who think the flags and roundabout paintings are tacky...

What do you make of this house?

I mean I wouldn’t do it to my own house but I do admire the straightness of the lines 😂.

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 26/08/2025 10:36

I think it would put off many buyers looking at neighbouring houses.

Saint George was born in what is now Turkey. His mother was from Palestine.

The region she was born in was Syria. The city was Lod which is now in israel. Palestine wasn’t a country, although you’re welcome to go Google the flag that was used for that region before 1964.
I bet you think Jesus was Palestinian too.

Turkey didn't exist until 1923. George was a Roman soldier of Greek descent*. It wasn't Palestine, it was the Roman province of Syria Palaestinia, formerly Judea. Wholesale opinions.

*well, one of the candidates for George was at least

Amazing how history is being rewritten before our very eyes to suit a racist ideology huh…

Unless he had permission wouldn't paint spraying other people's property be seen as vandalism? From reading the West Yorkshire Police website here I believe that graffiti can attract fines and even imprisonment for the creator.

Clear criminal damage imo.

Imagine the cost of having your car sorted after someone's painted it like that? I'd be bloody livid.

Cormoransjacket · 26/08/2025 10:42

I was just suggesting who the PP might be referring to when she wrote "Turkish Saint". I don't think anything really. I just googled it in an attempt to learn.

TonTonMacoute · 26/08/2025 10:44

Well, let's think about who started all this flag crap.

Who decided we need a flag for LGB pride? Who decided we then needed a trans flag? Who decided we needed to fly the LGBTGI+ flag all down Oxford Street? Who painted zebra crossings and police cars rainbow colours, decided sportsmen had to wear rainbow laces, National Trust guides had to have rainbow lanyards? Who decided Palestinian flags should be flown everywhere?

Its been ramping up for years, why are we surprised that people finally react when they are told that they can fly any flag except their own?

The new mythology and historical revision of the chattering classes. People actually feel clever when they trot out the Turkey nonsense they swallow unquestioningly from their group. It's all very silly.

I agree. If someone wants to paint their own property they are free to do so. To paint other people's property without permission should mean that the perpetrator is made to remove their graffiti at their own cost. Sadly the cost and effort of removal is down to councils or the property owner, and not the culprit.

I hope that you learned something, truly. Especially that if you’re going to refer to someone as being “Palestinian” you need to understand the connotations of that statement, particularly as Palestine has never been an actual country. It was an area called Judea, colonised by Romans and renamed, and included at least 3 other countries within its boundaries. St George was a Christian from the Middle East which is where the religion originated. It only became Muslim through conquests, occupation and colonialism. The name Palestinian was used briefly in the early 20th century by the Jews and Arabs living the the British mandated area, then coined by Yasser Arafat in 1964 to describe the non-Israeli Arab citizens living in disputed/occupied territories..

JLou08 · 26/08/2025 10:54

There is a house like this in my town. It got done one year when England were doing well in the world cup. It adds a bit of character, I don't mind it at all.
I do think it's a shame all these idiots against flying the flag don't realise that they are playing right into the hands of the racists. They want you to complain about people being proud of their own country so they can turn it into a race issue. Well done to all those complaining about flags, really stirring up that division 👏

My mind has been blown recently by some of the shite purporting to be history I’ve seen lately. It’s almost as though it’s perfectly acceptable to make history up in order to avoid discomfort or to bolster a false narrative.

ExtraOnions · 26/08/2025 10:58

If I saw a red-cross sprayed on someone’s house, I would assume they had The Plague 😂

Ilovegerardway · 26/08/2025 10:58

Omg, three houses on one street on the shitty estate over the road from me started painting their houses like that.

Only, I don’t think any of them have a ladder as they all seemed to only do it as far up as they could reach, bar the dickead, who I watched with a paintbrush tied to a broom out of his top window. He soon gave up as well.

They all did it on return from the “protest” in our town last weekend (I put protest in brackets as it was just a hoard of bewildered Idiots stumbling around not really knowing what to do).

I'm flagging now from all this flag talk.

godlikeAI · 26/08/2025 11:03

Alltheprettyseahorses · 26/08/2025 10:24

I don't see anything wrong with it - if it's real of course. It's their house, nothing to do with anyone else. I saw a phrase on here a few days ago, buying political opinions wholesale, and it seems we've had the England flag added to that. But at least the OP isn't screaming, crying and throwing up on this thread, there's always a positive when you look for it. Fwiw, I've never been impressed by performative rightthink.

Yes it is - because it’s a public display and they literally want people to see it

A guy on the street my mum lives on has spray painted a red cross on his house, he’s also done the same on peoples walls, fences and cars.

I like how door paint person didn’t realise England contains a second n, so had to squeeze one in.

So he's actually painted other people's houses and cars? Not sure I believe that. Probably just a rumour!

FlowersAndFruit · 26/08/2025 11:05

There's a house round our way completely painted bottle green. It looks worse than that flag house.
