MIL bathing habits

Bitesize89 · 25/08/2025 06:56

My in laws come to stay with us pretty frequently and I've noticed over time that mil never bathes when she comes. She can be here 3-4 days without a shower or bath. It recently was revealed that she only ever uses baths and no soap in her bath. This came up after she bagged my DD and didn't use any soap on her and she said well there was bubble bath in the water, I was shocked as I don't think that's a proper way to bathe and she said when she bathes she doesn't use soap and only bubble bath. So not only does she not bathe for days on and but when she bathes she just has a bubble bath and no soap.im really grossed out.

I wonder if those “doctors” have vulvas?

Does she smell? I wouldn’t bath/shower in someone else’s house unless I really had to, I’d just feel uncomfortable doing so.

You would feel more uncomfortable bathing in a close family members house than not bathing AT ALL for 4 days!?

Washing bits is not using soap internally 🤣

Not using soap applies to your external genitals too. All the labias, major and minor.

If it’s not a problem for you, then I’m delighted but you might find it more a problem later

Although I’ve appointed myself queen of the great unwashed on here, I do actually have a separate detachable hose so everything thing can get a good direct cleaning without needing soap.

Sorry to be gross, but unless you detach and point the shower head your lady bits get a better wash in the bath 🤣

Doesn't everyone aim the shower head at their body?
Arm pits, bum, fanny.

That's the whole point of it! Fixed showers in some hotels mean you have to do a headstand.

Oh so you're trying to win the argument by saying they are all male?

Do some research online.

I didn’t imply four days in the post you quoted, and I clarified what I do in a subsequent post if you’re desperate to find out.

I wonder if it’s a generational thing OP about hygiene. My mum also doesn’t bathe because she “doesn’t want to be a bother!” 🙄

She ends up being MUCH more of a bother by smelling for a week and no matter how much I tell her she won’t use our water. Last time she came I had to deliver an honest truth when she used our toilet (just for a wee I think, she was quick) but obviously getting partially undressed unleashed the smell of not washing for a week, and I swear the smell was traumatising. I had to say she smells and needs to bathe. Which she took massive offence to.

Thinking about it growing up hygiene was lacking. She used to say we didn’t have to brush our teeth if we ate an apple before bed because it brushed our teeth for us. All 3 of us kids ended up with about 6 fillings each by the time we hit secondary, and we now have bit ugly silver metal in our mouths.

We would also wash once a week and share bath water 🤮 we weren’t poor, they were just tight I think. We used to make a deal that two of us would distract our mum whilst the other re-ran the bath because it used to make us feel sick.

Do they?! I just stand under it, wash my hair, condition, wash my pits legs and arms and exfoliate, day dream about imaginary arguments at work that I’m never gonna have then get out.

The only people I’ve known to aim the shower head at their fanny aren’t aiming it there for the cleanliness.

Well that explains all the two showers a day ladies.

Denim4ever · 25/08/2025 18:41

I never daydream in the shower, I'm too busy trying to avoid getting my hair too wet every other day and concentrating on washing my hair on the alternate days. If it hair wash day I'm out asap as I hate wet body and face at same time

prelovedusername · 25/08/2025 18:44

I can assure you they are thoroughly washed under the shower

A pp seemed to declare that no one needs to know how to do a strip wash.

If it's done properly then there's no need to make a mess all over the floor. As another poster said, it is indeed a lifeskill that children should be taught.

When I was still dating my uni boyfriend, we went hosteling in the south of England. One of our stops was a basic Youth Hostel with no showers.

In the ladies', everyone just stripped off and washed at the sinks. I assumed that the same was happening in the gents' bathroom.

When we got to the next hostel, my BF commented on how relieved he was to be able to wash after three days of not washing... I was puzzled and asked why he hadn't just washed at the sink.

He seemed genuinely baffled: "You can't wash at a sink!"

Hankunamatata · 25/08/2025 18:51

Growing up it was one bath a week.
Pretty sure my parents only shower or bathe every 3rd day. They dont do much, wear clean clothes and dont smell

To be fair those of us who shower everyday tend to book accommodation with a shower!

If a youth hostel with a shower had been available in the area, we'd have booked it.

LSADM · 25/08/2025 19:05

If she smells then it’s a problem, if she doesn’t then what’s the problem?

i think the younger generation forget that weekly baths were a thing. I’m in my 40s and when I was a kid we didn’t have a shower and that wasn’t unusual either. We had a tank that we heated up not hot water on demand, people actually shared the same bath water! 😱 What we did every morning was fill up the sink and washed our faces and our smelly bits 😂 Our expectations may have changed because showers make it easier but many will not feel a need to change the habit of a life time. If it ain’t broke why fix it? Then there’s the fact that showers and bathing can cause some people irritation so they will only have one when absolutely necessary.

But if you got 💩 on your hands would you just wipe it with tissue and wait several days until you next washed your hands with soap? Regardless of if you were gonna prepare food

No, of course not. I didn't know anybody had claimed they did that!

Maybe actually cleaner then it 'should' be!

Or lie on your back with your legs raised, and well, separated as wide as you can in the small space......lol....

There’s no such thing as too clean 😂

I’ve had a busy day - walked downtown to get a prescription, came back, cleaned and meal prepped, then went for another walk. I can see the sweat patches on the clothes I was wearing. You’re never, ever going to convince me it’s better to leave that, or to just grab a flannel and give a quick wipe. It’s disgusting.

Obviously you do need a shower now. I wasn't suggesting that somebody who's been active, sweating or doing something dirty shouldn't have a good wash.

presumably you’re moving each day and guess what, you sweat everyday! To not shower is just disgusting
