I nearly threw up when I saw it this morning - what a horrible shock.

It's a very small town in the Midlands near a city. Yes it's ex-mining but does reasonable ok now, not deprived eg no contextual offers for my dc for uni, but not massively desirable or trendy. Has a Labour MP now but hasn't always in recent years. Voted for Brexit but only just. In 2019 more people voted against Tories AND Brexit than for them - split the vote so we still got a Tory, but still.

In other words, I did not expect this. It's horrible - looks ugly and badly done even before you get started on the thinking behind it. AIBU to ring the council on Tuesday and ask when they are going to deal with this vandalism?

I did a four hour round-trip on the motorway today too and the amount of flags on bridges was shocking - just make it stop.

It’s absolutely vile. It’s deliberately organised by the right wing knuckle draggers to intimidate people on the back of those disgusting protests outside hotels. I came home yesterday to my suburb and one main road had them up on every lamp post. Like the original poster I felt sick to my stomach. There is increasing overt racism on Mumsnet, some of which, I believe, is being planted by the far right. Standing in solidarity with you @Liesmorelies

And these flags aren’t about women’s football or rugby. Parties like Reform really don’t give a screw about women and our rights. If those fuckers get in, they WILL go after maternity rights, flexible working, free childcare, the NHS, and, in time, abortion rights (check out Farage’s ‘interests’ over that) Every single time, there is a shift to the far right women’s rights come under attack. Look at the rise of the Nazis…

if you want to be barefoot and pregnant, then go for it.

Absolutely. The turkeys are voting for Christmas and when we end up like the USA having to travel across Europe for healthcare then they will be crying and wondering where the men are that said 'women and girls'. They will be the very men enforcing these laws against them.

The CPS admitted it. Why did you not know this if you cared so much about victims of rape and sexual abuse.

It is well documented.

So my rapists confessed. He was allowed to walk free, a year after this policy was introduced to let rapists go to raise the conviction rates.

What documents? Ive obviously not read everything you have.

Of course men of all nationalities and races rape, but you said that there is a cover up. What has been covered up?

You seem to be treating my questions as confrontational when that wasnt my intent.

If they did then this wouldn't be new would it and nothing would've changed this last week but it has as they didn't.

The odd lone ranger is not everyone being patriotic is it?

Duh!

@BettyBobble It's not a 'nod to St George,' though is it? It's an aggressive act rooted in xenophobia. Like cats marking their territory these people are swishing the paint around and it needs to stop.

The Women’s Rugby WC is being played in several stadiums around here. We saw similar with the football, there was even a house fully painted 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Do you feel equally disgusted when you see a zebra crossing pained as a Pride flag? Or poppies and flags being displayed to honour veterans (which are often slandered as being racist)? How about all the Ukrainian or Palestinian flags weve seen over the last few years?

Rape is being covered up - the extent of it. Rape by white men is being covered up by white men.

The quota covers up the extent by letting rapists go who should be held to account.

I will respond to you in the way you responded to me. You insinuated the quota is a lie. I was a victim of such cover ups. So yes I will respond badly to you calling me a liar.

Or like some on this thread that even after being made aware say they haven't bothered reading as "don't care"
Which says it all really.

It's reactions like that to a National flag that are aggressive and racist tbh. Take a good long look in the mirror

Blondiebeachbabe · 25/08/2025 13:26

I am an English woman, but I live in Scotland. People here have always been proud to fly the saltire - it's often seen in gardens. Same as in many, many countries around the globe.

Only the English are somehow made to feel racist by flying their OWN fucking flag. And all the lefties can't see that as a problem. Unbelievable how easily they have given away their own identity, just in case they (gasp) offend someone who has illegally invaded our shores. How weak and pathetic. Maybe you should bow down to them and kiss their feet while you're down there.

I wish our roundabouts had flags painted on them, I really do. I love Scotland, I love England, and I am PROUD to be English.

I am going on holiday soon, and fuck it, I am going to buy a Union Jack beach towel. And any loony leftie who doesn't like it can get to fuck.

As a semi-outsider looking in, this terrifies me. I’m white British but converted to Islam 20years ago. Have never, apart from a few yob comments, felt threatened in my country because of how I choose to dress. Currently live abroad (because ironically, British people cannot just move back with their partners..the spouse visa rules are a huge hurdle) and my family & I are planning to move back to the UK next year. this far-right rise is making me reconsider everything. My husband and sons are middle-eastern looking & it worries me that if I continue to wear hijab when we return, I’d be putting us in the firing line for abuse. We’ll likely move to Scotland, which feels safer(?) but still.. to have to even consider altering my appearance to safeguard my children is just stomach churning. I grew up in the 80s/90s, had pink hair, wore outrageous costumes as clothes and felt free to express myself however I chose. What a sad difference a few short years makes.

Snorlaxo · 25/08/2025 13:26

I saw a meme today suggesting that people paint a flag in potholes so the council fills them in 😈

Are you the poster that was super dramatic about the Sistine Chapel?

LandingOnAllFours · 25/08/2025 13:27

I've actually just seen that a zebra crossing in my town has been badly spray painted to look like a George's cross, on each white bit, it's clearly a hot bank holiday and the numpties are out in force.
Ironically, they're the type of people I worry about having in my town, more than immigrants.

If they've been flying the flag for years, and summers, then it's not a new thing for them, is it?
Not whipped up via a social media frenzy.
There's a difference. It's not hard.

It is disgusting isn't it? My partner is not white and we have never faced such open racism. We have spent so much time together and last summer we faced some racism if we walked together on the street. That died down in the winter as the racists are frightened of the cold and now it has re-emerged.

We will not stop walking together nor will they break us with their comments of him 'taking our girls' as if I would shag the likes of those knuckle draggers if I wasn't with him.

It is very much openly racist now and quite often celebrated. Thankfully the cold weather is meant to hit tomorrow and they will all be hiding again.

OP, is the roundabout near a pub and a co-op? If so, it's had flags painted on it several times during the world cup/ Euros over the years.

DashboardConfession · 25/08/2025 13:30

I laughed out loud at the number of people going "Is it xenophobic or racist to for the Americans to fly their flag". Have you read any news in the last 8 years? Yes, let's emulate them and their attitude to non-white foreigners.

Yes, in your home town.
It's sudden in mine. FB comments on the local page says in no uncertain terms what it's about.
"Taking back our country" and vile rants about migrants.
To say it's just about Dads Army nostalgia stuff is either complete ignorance or fingers stuffed in ears going la la la.

No idea what Warmington in Sea is like.

It is sudden. It was not like this last week or why were there no photos of roundabouts last week....must've dreamt it happened this week!

Must've always been like that! Just driven round the roundabouts blind eh!

They are responsible for those reported and conivcted but we both know that it is not 6% at all. We know there are many more of all ethnicities raping and being covered up. As if you think that is all that is going on just the reported ones. Not realising that almost all that happen are not reported and that the justice system is actively letting white rapists walk free - but hey that doesn't do any harm at all does it? I mean why would you ignore that if you wanted rapists held to account.

Lets be honest it is most men in most communities. Over 50% in ALL communities doing this to women and girls. Not a minority/majority. White men treat women just as badly as brown men do.

Also it is interesting you do not speak about how white crimes are covered up but then you are free to tell me why you think all white perpetrators are held to account and not brown ones? it is bullshit.

Men cover for men no matter their colour and the sooner you learn that the sooner we can hold them to account. The fact that you are doing just that speaks volumes, covering up white male crimes is wrong.

So why are you actively supporting a group that wants to cover up what white men are doing? Seems a bit hypocritcial eh that if you want transparency you side with a group full of men who abuse women and rape women and then pretend they do not.

By all means tell me how you have rallied your MP to remove the quota on rape cases.

If you cared about women and girls then you would not side with those who harm them or with a political party who is hell bent on removing women's rights and removing safety features that keep children safe. But hey Fromage loves Andrew Tate and his abuser mate McMurdock and if that is your role models and who you support then stand by them.

Siding with white rapists and abusers to call out brown rapists and abusers isn't a good look.

Edited

That is not what I'm doing as well you know.
What is am doing is pointing out what is going on and yes the figures I quoted are for reported and convicted sexual assaults as we dont have any other accurate figures or statistics. If the government would keep honest records (including the sex of the accused) about reported sexual assaults and put all that information out in the public and lead a conversation about what they show we could remove that weapon from the far right but they won't instead they had to be forced to publish the few statistics we do have by the far right who are using it to push their own agenda.
You forget that if we cannot name or a describe the problem we cannot fix it. Running around claiming that everyone who points out the problem as excusing white rapists and accusing them of racism and worse makes you part of the problem rather than the solution.
