Dd is named after my favourite author L M Alcott

WetArm · 23/08/2025 23:24

I watched a lot of Peaky Blinders when I was pregnant so DS ended up with one of the Shelby brothers' names. 😁

Chilliandbanana · 23/08/2025 23:35

Yes my DD is named after an English actress. I love reminding her when she comes on the screen!

augustusglupe · 23/08/2025 23:41

No, but I named my daughter after a character in a film played by Jane Fonda. Its not Barbarella 😄

@Millytante
Just been down a rabbit hole ( in a good way) googling all your information. I shall pass this on to my DD. Wow! Though she may know all of it anyway.
Her middle name is a Greek mythological goddess name ‘ to whom men sacrificed their manhood’.
Her name means’ victorious Mankiller’ which actually turned out to be very apt. She is beautiful outside and in.

Yowza, is that Cybele? A religious goddess cult (something to do with crops? Prob. mixing up my deities) wherein men would voluntarily castrate themselves in her service?
I’d say there’s room in our modern world for a revival, tbh. Maybe it could replace National Service!
Laura really is a beautiful name. Not all names suit us from cradle to grave. (I think my own expired in terms of suitability in my teens, for example, and is ludicrous at nearly 70) ‘Laura’ though sits well on all the stages of a girl’s life.

PS: if you have access to Paramount or Apple TV, seek out Twin Peaks: the Return, episode 8, and bear witness again to the celestial creation of Laura, in a time of direst peril. Madly thrilling and glorious stuff.

nice to meet you. Toodlepip!

ThisRareFox · 24/08/2025 07:29

InterestedDad37 · 24/08/2025 07:38

A couple of relatives have been named after a Beatle.

I thought they did that with Popes.

We’ve had John Paul, I was hoping the new one was going to be George Ringo.

Whaleadthesnail · 24/08/2025 08:14

I joke that mine was named after a labour MP just to wind up my daily mail reading dad

Snapespeare · 24/08/2025 08:17

Potentially not helpful. One of my cats is called Dolly Purrton. Future cat will be named Alan Rickcat. If there were ever another dog, he would be named Albus Dumbledog.

Kids are all named after no-one

SleepWalkingtoSeville · 24/08/2025 08:20

My daughter is somewhat named after a character from Angel. Not in the sense that I’m a die hard fan - just that it’s the first place I heard the name.

LittleMi55Nobody · 24/08/2025 08:21

fleetwood mac lead singer

i know someone who babes her daughter after Hayley Mills, because they said she (the mother, that is) looked like her.

On EastEnders, Heather named her baby after George Michael.

Our daughter is called Hayley, after the girl in Metal Micky. DH was watching at the time we were trying to find a name we liked that hadn't already been used by friends or relations.

Yes! Named DS after a member of our favourite Madchester band which also matched the first names of our Dads so everyone was happy 😊

James? Excellent band.

Not a celebrity, but dd's middle name is the same as the title of my favourite book.

Anna?

Princessbananahamock · 23/08/2025 12:50

Big fan of Gone with the Wind guess what she is called.

Same. My daughter is named after a character in Gone with the Wind.

Millytante · 23/08/2025 21:32

Arkle! Excellent.
My old headmistress at boarding school had a commanding portrait of Arkle in her study, next to a lurid Sacred Heart, and an obligatory JFK. She was a fiend for the horses, that nun.

No, not Arkle!

Divorcemakesyoustressedandpoor · 24/08/2025 11:38

Yes I named my daughter Evie after watching house of Elliot when I was younger

Moonflower12 · 24/08/2025 11:45

@Millytante

Spot on!

We always joked we would wake one morning, to the lawn covered in severed penises.

Lovely to meet you too!
