@Millytante

Amazingly you guessed the correct programme and first letter of her name but her (not) character was the one found ‘all dead and wrapped in plastic!’

Or is that you, DD?

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 23/08/2025 20:37

I named my cat after a Star Wars character if that counts.

I know somone I worked with always loved the name Erin after watching the waltons as a child and did in deed name her daughter Erin.

OMG I did the exact same, unless you're talking about me then there must be two of us.

DS is named after a famous bear who has all sorts of exciting adventures and lives in Nutwood.

I really wanted to call my ds Hector (from Greek mythology) but it was vetoed, I was gutted but got my next favourite name!

A friend called his firstborn son Hector, and everyone, to his vast disappointment, assumed it was in honour of some cartoon dog on the telly.

My child is named after a Cheltenham Gold Cup winning horse!

Arkle! Excellent.
My old headmistress at boarding school had a commanding portrait of Arkle in her study, next to a lurid Sacred Heart, and an obligatory JFK. She was a fiend for the horses, that nun.

Cherrysoup · 23/08/2025 21:35

There’s a Keanu and Phoenix in my family. I think it’s mad, but not as bad as someone naming their dc Khaleesi, which I’ve seen on here.

menopausalmare · 23/08/2025 21:44

Yes, she was a Downton Dame.

Freegrass · 23/08/2025 21:47

No, Darth, Luke and Yoda are all common names in this area.

twobabiesandapup · 23/08/2025 21:48

Not exactly a celebrity but my son is named after a Power Ranger that I loved as a child/early teen 😂 although no one in real life actually knows that that’s where the name came from!

Ah, of course. And a heavily mythologised name it is too (in a good way). She’s an immortal muse, for a start.
Then the classic Noir movie haunted that first series, even unto the damn minah bird’s name, and in TP itself, your girl is nothing less than the force of Good overcoming Evil. She’s the actual, ‘heaven’-sent saviour. Wow!

A friend of mine named he'd daughter Rory after Gilmore girls 😊

If she took the fancy of the next Oasis bruv to get a divorce, she could become a beloved Blues guitarist.
(smashing name for a girl, is Rory)

Ga66le · 23/08/2025 21:56

I was named after a character from a very popular Disney animated film that came out a few years before I was born.

Same for my DS.

TowerRavenSeven · 23/08/2025 22:00

Yes and no. This was 25 years ago and when I mentioned the name I liked to dh, he said ‘having a child with the name of the future king of England is not a bad thing’. So for dh it was after the royal family. I just liked the name.

MrsMitford3 · 23/08/2025 22:01

Over 20 years ago I was reading a huge book made up of the fascinating letters between a British PM and his wife.
When I had a girl after 2 boys I knew that was her name- I was smitten.
Still love it to this day although wish it wasn't gaining in popularity-I liked it better when it was much less common

hazelowens · 23/08/2025 22:07

My middle son is Ciaran because of the character played by Keith Duffy in Coronation Street.
My youngest is called Aidan after Aidan Quinn. He would have been Quinn if I could have had my way.

Big fan of Gone with the Wind guess what she is called.

Tara?

I’ve lost count of the amount of Lisa-Marie’s I know born in the 70s including my SIL @buswankerbabe

We have a number of “famous names” in my family, both my Grandad and Uncle the same name after a famous American actor, they were born first. My DB had the same name as a character played by a particular famous “ heart throb”. One of my DDs name my Nan always loved, there was an actress with the same name that my Nan always commented on saying o it’s “X” every time she came on TV.

im always being asked if I’m named after a movie, but I’m not.

Moonflower12 · 23/08/2025 22:28

@Millytante
Just been down a rabbit hole ( in a good way) googling all your information. I shall pass this on to my DD. Wow! Though she may know all of it anyway.
Her middle name is a Greek mythological goddess name ‘ to whom men sacrificed their manhood’.
Her name means’ victorious Mankiller’ which actually turned out to be very apt. She is beautiful outside and in.
