What do you think of the flags?

Apologies if this has been done already.

I live in one of the areas where the flags were started. We couldn’t understand what they were for until it popped up in the news. Apparently the councils are going to be taking them down.

I don’t really have much of an opinion either way but my concern is that they’ll soon become tatty, fall down and leave a mess everywhere. But it seems lots of people are loving them. They do look quite cheery at the moment.

What do people think?

Thanks. I'm still waiting for the poster to provide the evidence backing up their strong opinions but it seems that absolute drivel is all one can expect.

You said 'illegal immigrants'. 'Illegal immigrants' are people who have overstayed their visas or are failed asylum seekers. This is an article on 'foreigners'. I can't read the article in order to check their data.

You're fighting a losing battle. You can explain to the thick racist lowlives the difference between legal immigration, illegal immigrations and asylum seekers until you're blue in the face.

They're either too stupid to understand, or understand full well but are deliberately stirring the pot.

I like to present the facts or threads become ignorant echo chambers. I doubt most are posting in good faith but some reading might be.

I had a similar thought. If everyone in the whole country just went a bit mad with the flag flying, maybe we could claim the flag back for everyone in England rather than it being claimed by the far right. It's not their flag! Obviously this is a pipe dream whereby everyone in England would be in on the mad flag flying moment, but it's a nice thought. They'd have to find another way to threaten people under the guise of patriotism once we claimed the flag back for the people.

It doesn't really matter either way. The fact is there are extra people comming to the country who are dangerous and committing serious crimes who need to leave. The government is willfully allowing them to come with the support from some of the public.

Interesting comment about intimidation. Do you care similarly if people are intimidated by Pride flags? Palesinian flags? Because some of us are intimidated by them but no-one seems to care about that!

It definitely isn’t that I personally don't care if people are intimidated by Pride flags, it’s that I’m not familiar with that being a “thing.” I’m aware some don’t like them, but that’s different to intimidation.

I think it is probably the "progress pride" flag, with its homophobic ideology woven into it.

So if this was the added part - would it be the POC/HIV element, or the addition of the trans flag colours?

You're simply repeating things you've heard and spreading inflammatory rhetoric about 'dangerous foreigners'. If talking about people coming on boats, it's a complex situation and even Reform say they won't send people back to be persecuted.

There's a lot of rhetoric on pride in being British and British values and that includes providing asylum to those seeking refuge. It includes a legal system available to all, tolerance and respect for human rights. Perhaps people should remember that when they're shouting racial abuse at people while hanging out the George Cross.
