What do you think of the flags?

Latesummersunset · 21/08/2025 18:05

Apologies if this has been done already.

I live in one of the areas where the flags were started. We couldn’t understand what they were for until it popped up in the news. Apparently the councils are going to be taking them down.

I don’t really have much of an opinion either way but my concern is that they’ll soon become tatty, fall down and leave a mess everywhere. But it seems lots of people are loving them. They do look quite cheery at the moment.

What do people think?

Yabu - they are a mess/racist/health and safety hazard

Yanbu - they are cheerful and patriotic. Keep them

Some twat called Patriot Villain posted:

'Really sad to see Tamworth locals leaving the protest after like an hour it was looking very promising at first, but peoples hearts just wasn't in it, I've never felt so let down and disappointed, the migrants was at the windows laughing at us all, this town has gone down hill'

😂

I bet migrants would have put more effort in…

Serpentstooth · 23/08/2025 22:52

Return the emoji 😂 so we can give Disappointed of Tamworth the reception he deserves. 😂

Sinking feeling that another Krystallnacht is on its way. Utterly grim.

Sadly those that need to read your post and really reflect on it 99% most likely cannot read the word 'Krystallnacht' and have absolutely no idea what it even refers to.

ThatBlackCat · 24/08/2025 03:15

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel

mids2019 · 24/08/2025 05:42

I wonder if the England flag is so opted by rig h wing anti immigrant groups whether eventually we may see BAME sportsmen and women refusing or at least be reluctant to wear the st George's flag on clothing? I'm a diverse society is this the beginning of our national flag becoming toxic and how can we prevent that from happening?

Serpentstooth · 24/08/2025 07:30

It's already toxic, the Right have made it so, that's why it upsets so many people.

This is what I said/thought last year as we watched "patriots" throw flaming wheelie bins through doors at hotels

FreezeDriedStrawberries · 24/08/2025 08:22

I've heard of Krystallnacht before but wasn't sure of all the details so had a quick Google yesterday.
Utterly awful, and does sound scarily close to what's happening today.

Clearly not enough people - judging by the voting on this thread.

Apparently you’re a “traitor” if you don’t support anti-muslim pogroms.

I do not relate at all to this obnoxious and disgusting mindset, it has nothing to do with patriotism at all, yet they think by decorating their idiocy with flags it becomes patriotic. These people are radicalised or otherwise mentally unwell.

Local FB group has St. Georges flags (not sure I feel like calling them England flags) stickers you can put on your (uncollected) wheelie bin.

Predictably some wag commented that you should put them in the bin and save time.

Thegreyhound · 24/08/2025 10:43

I don’t think love of British values is best promoted by a flagshagging campaign orchestrated by the far right and embraced by thugs or by attempts to intimidate those in asylum hotels. That isn’t at all a Britain to be proud of.
As for reclaiming the flag that hasn’t worked out well for Starmer who is permanently shrouded in Union Jacks and thus giving ground the the far right every single day.
Gordon Brown made a huge mistake apologising for calling ‘that bigoted woman’ a bigot.

Instead of asking mumsnet why don’t you engage in some basic research- the flags started being flown/graffiti’d by a movement known as “Raise the Colours” who have close links to the far right. If you think the appearance of the flag everywhere is in any way intended to be cheerful, you are at best very naive.

HangryLikeTheHulk · 24/08/2025 11:47

Given the way this is going, at some point not having a flag on your house could lead to it being firebombed or vandalised.

cakeorwine · 24/08/2025 18:12

Someone near me has 4 flags outside his house.

You can definitely tell from one of them his views on Starmer and which way he's going to vote

He’s going to leave the “vote” flag up for around the next 3 years?

With someone being petrol bombed for putting an English flag up, I'm worried to.

Answering my own question. I found the story about Stevenage. I think the flag hoisters are idiots, but they don't deserve to be attacked. Violence solves nothing.

Funny you should say that about 1930s vibes. Same target, same playback.

Your first post on this thread was a yawning face, your second post was to tell us all how bored you are of this.

Yet you're still here 35 pages later making this about anti-Semitism?

Looks you're not bored after all, you just want to act superior before lecturing people!

Hi sorry for late reply. Yeah really unacceptable.

Serpentstooth · 25/08/2025 09:10

The flags are there for right wing knuckle draggers to demonstrate their 'love for Albion'. They are unspeakable and my thoughts are unprintable.

TalkToTheHand123 · 25/08/2025 09:41

The flags are there because current and previous government incompetence and lack of desire to keep British people safe.

In what way will they fix that? Are you safer because there’s a flag on a lamppost?
