What do you think of the flags?

Latesummersunset · 21/08/2025 18:05

Apologies if this has been done already.

I live in one of the areas where the flags were started. We couldn’t understand what they were for until it popped up in the news. Apparently the councils are going to be taking them down.

I don’t really have much of an opinion either way but my concern is that they’ll soon become tatty, fall down and leave a mess everywhere. But it seems lots of people are loving them. They do look quite cheery at the moment.

What do people think?

Yabu - they are a mess/racist/health and safety hazard

Yanbu - they are cheerful and patriotic. Keep them

In what way will they fix that? Are you safer because there’s a flag on a lamppost?

Exactly, they definitely don't make me feel safer (I'm white British) in fact the exact opposite as the local FB group comments shows just what kind of people are behind putting ones up around here.

TalkToTheHand123 · 25/08/2025 10:10

It shows British will for political change to secure our country.

Your first post on this thread was a yawning face, your second post was to tell us all how bored you are of this.

Yet you're still here 35 pages later making this about anti-Semitism?

Looks you're not bored after all, you just want to act superior before lecturing people!

Lol!! She's still here because you quoted an old post from days ago! 😂

I meant she was still her 35 pages in 🙄

So bored she stuck around for 36 pages!

Yes. Because the government are really going to implement political change because of some flags.

Think they’ve got bigger things to focus on than whether Barry from Wigan likes a painted roundabout.

Well they will only have themselves to blame for not listening to Barry when they all lose their seats at the next election.

Do we not think Barry could put the crayons away and channel his energy in a more productive, actual change encouraging way?

There’s a walk on the 13th he could go on. I think it’s going past where Keir Starmer “lives,” though I doubt he’ll stick around for the party.

I think Barry's friend George told him there wasn't a pub on route and Barry's not much of a walker, so said he doesn't think he'll bother. He said he fears violence from the far left also.
Barry likes to draw pictures though so may send one in to number 10. George is going to get him a stamp later from the shop.

The flags are there because current and previous government incompetence and lack of desire to keep British people safe.

Safe from?

SleeplessInWherever · 25/08/2025 14:10

In fairness, I don’t actually think the left should go anywhere near that march. It’s trouble waiting to happen. Personally I wouldn’t counter protest thousands of angry, largely men.

Let them shout themselves hoarse and leave them to their marchy yelling.

Safer from illegal immigrants who commit serious crimes in the country.

Illegal immigrants tend to go under the radar and I don't believe there's much data on that.

For the data that is available is enough. Common sense would suggest it would be even more so if it was.

It's becoming more and more frequent in the news. Current and previous governments are too incompetent or scared of the far left to take adequate action.

What data is available on illegal immigrants? I wasn't aware the police took immigration status upon arrest. Conjecture isn't another name for common sense.

The far left? Communists? Where?

paulhollywoodshairgel · 25/08/2025 17:39

I don’t like that (where I live) they are being put up undercover of darkness… nothing to do with being patriotic. It’s to intimidate any minorities in the area.

Digidestined · 25/08/2025 17:49

The far left 😂

TheTeasmaid · 25/08/2025 17:51

ginasevern · 21/08/2025 18:29

I think Councils taking them down (or telling people to take them down) is just going to add more fuel to the fire. If they had any sense they'd ignore them. How can you tell someone to take down their national flag? I mean, we all know what most of it stands for but mandating that they are illegal is playing beautifully into the hands of the far right and the front page of the Daily Mail. If they're going to do that, then they should dispense with all flags - Palestinian, Ukranian - the lot. Then there's no argument.

may be thats the strategy its heading towards,

Our local group is now at the point where people are posting photos of non white people claiming they followed a child etc, are nonces and must be tracked down. Admin enthusiastically supported the post and lots of abuse being posted. Government needs to do something and get a grip on this.

Mine's the same, been some awful posts about "migrants in parks". There's literally no point reporting them as half the time it's admin who post stuff about migrants and if you call it out you get banned or abused. Definitely needs something doing.
Although if there is something done, they get a "martyr complex" and go on about "stifling free speech" and just riles up blind or ignorant people more. It's an impossible situation.

Obviously people from their own country don't feel safe from attacks from illegal immigrant criminals.

Barry told me. Why else would you be afraid of putting up your own flag in your own country?

So?

I will put 10 of them up I think!

If nothing else, I know it annoys the Liberal left social justice warriors! 😎 And this make me happy. 😆

(I'm a petty little twat I know.) 😂
