What do you think of the flags?

Latesummersunset · 21/08/2025 18:05

Apologies if this has been done already.

I live in one of the areas where the flags were started. We couldn’t understand what they were for until it popped up in the news. Apparently the councils are going to be taking them down.

I don’t really have much of an opinion either way but my concern is that they’ll soon become tatty, fall down and leave a mess everywhere. But it seems lots of people are loving them. They do look quite cheery at the moment.

What do people think?

Yabu - they are a mess/racist/health and safety hazard

Yanbu - they are cheerful and patriotic. Keep them

A question:

If a group of people were to place hundreds of English flags in a ward like Sparkhill in Birmi Ingham (which is 80% Mulsim) would this be viewed as some sort of patriotic fervour or is as possibly likely a provocation? A reminder that England historically has been dominated by white people and their Christian lineage?

I think this is where councils are coming from. I am sure there are councillors who are aware that the flags are meant to divide communities but they know their removal will cause a backlash with exacerabtes the problem. They are in a bind.

Serpentstooth · 23/08/2025 07:13

Yes mids2019, as you say, not endearing to Muslims because of its Crusader history. This is exactly why the Right have seized on it instead of their earlier favourite, the Union flag. Its an in situ waving insult, intentionally so.

CBA to respond to your repetitive made up nonsense thats all.

Surely it's the other way around. You haven't provided any evidence to back up what you're saying but keep repeating "illegals!"

SlantedSlats · 23/08/2025 08:17

People need to at least say, ‘illegal immigrants’. Even though they are factually incorrect, it’s less dehumanising than ‘illegals’.

You've never spent much time in NI (which is part of the UK) or bothered to learn about its history then.

Is NI slated on here?

In that scenario, those flags wouldn't last 5 minutes. In fact, they wouldn't be put ip in the first place because there's nobody brave enough - THAT is the problem, which is overlooked by the left, when they bend over backwards to look virtuous. There are many examples of traffic wardens being intimidated in those areas.

These people dont like opposing opinions though, agree or you are racist!

Agree or you are racist and get the pile on. I laugh when I see the numerous notifications I get on these threads, like this. I can always predict what the reply will be to my post, especially when I see certain user names.

I'm proud of my country for being so diverse and taking in people who are fleeing war and want a better and safer life. I'm not proud of the idiots who protest outside hotels and wave their flags because white skin is superior.

Complete misrepresentation of why this is actually happening

Of course. Is Kier paying for that bit personally then?

If the boats stopped forever today, and all the asylum seekers in the UK were "sent back", taxes would still have to rise.

Trying to blame asylum seekers for tax rises is the rhetoric of Farage and Yaxley-Lennon.

As amusingly predictable as your comments and agenda then I guess!

So many people sucked in by the rhetoric that immigrants are the cause of all their problems.

Immigrants used as a scapegoat and a distraction from the reality of what is wrong with this country.

You’d think we’d have learned from our mistakes from Brexit.

Its not immigration though. Its MASS immigration. Just think about the maths. Its at a level that cannot be sustained...we cannot even house and look after those already here.

Having a different opinion is now called an agenda? My goodness, I knew the left were intolerant but didn't expect you to be so transparent.

It's the same emotional rhetoric that's used on the CITME board.

Also, you don’t believe that Muslims are offended by Easter Eggs and bacon, they want to introduce sharia law, there are “no-go areas” for whites and that Big Ben is going to be renamed Massive Mohammad, by any chance do you?

Well no go área for whites already exist.

They are unofficial areas though. You won't ever see them outwardly declare them as such.

Sorry, Conflict in the Middle East. It's a dedicated board, discussing the arab-Israeli conflict. It's a conflict that's being going on for centuries but only became popular and trendy after 7th October Hamas massacre.

Racism/being against racism isn't a left v right thing, it's so ridiculous when people come out with "but but lefties".
Unless you're insinuating all people who are right leaning are racist. Which would be just as ridiculous

You have to determine racism is taking place, as a starting point. Flying a flag is not racism.

And why is it an organised campaign? Not some random outburst of patriotic love?

I will not tolerate patriotism when it masks something much darker - something my beloved grandfather fought a war against
