Dh has just done it on the bbq and thinks it’s fine and i’m too fussy, I’m not but admittedly the only thing i’m ever cautious/fussy over is meat being cooked enough, I tend to really overcook mine

I can’t eat this 😬

OP sounds she like has health anxiety - I don’t think this is helping

BoilingHotand50something · 20/08/2025 20:08

I think you’ll be absolutely fine. I don’t think the photo is conclusive. Stop worrying would be my advice.

CoastalCalm · 20/08/2025 20:08

The pepper and onion haven’t got any char on so it’s not been on the bbq very long at all - I’d have just put it back on the bbq for a bit longer

LondonLady1980 · 20/08/2025 20:08

No way is that cooked.
It certainly wouldn’t have passed my lips.

I’m very OTT about meat though. I either eat fresh meat on the day it’s bought, or if I freeze it on the day of purchase I will then eat the same day it’s defrosted.

Hopefully you’ll be fine though OP.

Honestly, OP, I think you’ll be fine. I think people are misinterpreting the slight shininess as sliminess, whereas if you look at the piece on the far left about two thirds down, it’s very clear that the shine is coming from oil on a (slightly) crisped-up surface. If it was white rather than pink on the inside, it was definitely cooked.

No - it doesn't look shiny, it looks slimy and raw.

Sundaymorningcalla · 20/08/2025 20:12

Get a meat thermometer

Chicken is cooked and deemed safe to consume at 74 for 30 seconds typically, but I tend to aim for 68 and let it rest, most (decent) chefs will aim for 64-66 for breast.

People who cook meat by looking at typically over cook it. Chicken can be served a little pink provided it's the right temperature, and it'll be the most beautifully delicious and juicy chicken you'll ever eat.

ormiwtbte · 20/08/2025 20:12

I wouldn't have eaten that.

However, that does not automatically mean that you are all going to be ill. Try not to think about it. If you are ill you can deal with it at that point. Worrying about it isn't going to help.

godmum56 · 20/08/2025 20:25

I am not fussy and that is raw.

LittlleMy · 20/08/2025 20:34

Firstbreezeinmonths · 20/08/2025 15:57

Not really funny is it though

Honestly no but I’m very surprised given your cautiousness you didn’t invest in a meat thermometer already. Fingers xd everyone’s okay 🤞

Early3Rise · 20/08/2025 20:44

Everyone seems utterly convinced it's raw but if it was white inside like OP says, it was cooked.

How can u post a pic of the outside of chicken chunks and ask though?

You need to cut into the middle and open it up. Pink and slimy = raw, white and stringy = cooked

I think those were the bits I took off that looked ok to eat. How can some parts be cooked and others not

Depends where on the bbq they were, how long for , thickness of the pieces etc.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re not great , but a lot closer to safe than the bits on the skewer.

The photo is conclusive. These bits are raw. Not just a but undercooked. Raw.

Yeah, I see your point but they look curly at the edges, sort of thing, whereas the chicken on the skewer does look shiney to Me.
How are you feeling anyway ?

LondonLady1980 · 20/08/2025 21:19

Moondoggle · 20/08/2025 18:34

A good vet'd be able to save that.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

milveycrohn · 20/08/2025 21:25

Use a meat thermometer.

Because they were on different parts of the barbecue and/or for different times and/or they are different thicknesses.

The bits on the outside which are exposed to the heat will be cooked before the bits squished close to each other which is why kebabs shouldn't be packed tightly together.
If you've ever cooked a whole chicken you should know the legs and wings which are tight to the rest of the bird take longer to cook than the breast.

Wondering if OP survived the night...

GoneGirl12345 · 21/08/2025 09:28

Firstbreezeinmonths · 20/08/2025 15:41

It’s not seasoned, we had sauces with it etc
Looks too white though doesn’t it

You don't season your meat??

thebluehour · 21/08/2025 09:29

bluebirdy3987 · 20/08/2025 18:44

Blue - cooked
red - borderline /hard to tell
yellow - what were you thinking!

Exactly. Those pieces are clearly raw as fuck. How could you not know?

@Firstbreezeinmonths

How are you today? Hope you're not ill

Firstbreezeinmonths · 21/08/2025 14:29

Everyone is ok…have we hopefully passed the mark when we would have been ill by now? 🙏 it’s been 24 hours

Not necessarily
campylobacter can start after 3 days (mine did)
