Does this chicken look cooked to you?

Dh has just done it on the bbq and thinks it’s fine and i’m too fussy, I’m not but admittedly the only thing i’m ever cautious/fussy over is meat being cooked enough, I tend to really overcook mine

I can’t eat this 😬

Raw chicken can put you in hospital.

Hopefully it wasn't raw and your DH is correct.

Definitely get a thermometer for next time. I always cook chicken in the oven and then finish on BBQ to be sure.

Really anxious
Would four chunks be enough to cause an issue? How long until you get ill
Why in hospital, what would they give you?

I would cook it for longer, looks anaemic

dollyblue01 · 20/08/2025 16:37

Looks raw to me

OnlyOneAdda · 20/08/2025 16:37

It's not a great photo...contrary to all the many posters that seem certain it is raw and going to kill you all it looks cooked to me.

But point is, pretty impossible to tell that sort of thing in a picture. I can't even tell if it's thigh or breast? Which would result in very diff colour and texture when cooked?

Def agree with the meat thermometer - takes all the guess work out and means not only you make sure everything you are eating is safe but also you don't eat overcooked dried out meat unnecessarily either. £15 from Lakland digital one - we use multiple times daily.

I would always avoid cooking small pieces of breast meat like this on the BBQ because it's very hard to cook it safely and it not be dried out and tasteless.

Thight meat or larger pieces of meat are much better.

Firstbreezeinmonths · 20/08/2025 16:38

Dh swears it was absolutely fine and is quite annoyed at me now

OverlyFragrant · 20/08/2025 16:38

Yes. It's breast meat so very pale anyway.

SleeplessInWherever · 20/08/2025 16:38

Firstbreezeinmonths · 20/08/2025 16:33

It was in the fridge, taken out of the freezer a couple of days ago

Bork, nope.

Is it just me eating chicken the same day it’s defrosted?

Maybe I’m just chicken dramatic 😂

It was chicken breast I cut into small chunks and onto skewers for him to bbq

Sorry, but why you can't say to your DH that you want your, and your child's, chicken cooked a bit more?

And does your DH cook normally, or only when its the more manly version using naked flames outside? What I mean is, what makes him more of an authority on chicken than you?

TheCurious0range · 20/08/2025 16:40

It doesn't look raw too me but with the quality of the picture it's hard to tell, it doesn't look nicely cooked though

No. It looks pink, slimy and raw inside. I wouldn't eat it.

rwalker · 20/08/2025 16:45

100% impossible to tell
yes breast meat it white but there’s also darker meet and some bit even gave a pink tinge to it even when it’s fully cooked

JacknDiane · 20/08/2025 16:45

No

DiscoBob · 20/08/2025 16:47

I'd prefer more of a char if it's BBQ. There's no point having it cooked that way then serving it so pale?

It probably is cooked if it's breast, but I'd put it back on to give it more crispiness and colour.

And unseasoned? I can't say I approve of that either! I think you need to be the grill master next time.

VeryStressedMum · 20/08/2025 16:48

How does it have no colour or char at all done on a bbq? Did he hold it in the air over the flames?

Superhansrantowindsor · 20/08/2025 16:49

Looks raw to me - has that sort of shiny fleshy look rather than white.

VeryStressedMum · 20/08/2025 16:50

Although saying that, it looks like thigh meat which looks a bit different to breast.
If it's breast then no it's not cooked but thigh maybe

Yes I like it more well done too, not sure why it was so rushed this time

Ree-volting! <said in the voice of Kim from Kath & Kim>

Seriously that looks raw and slimy.

I cut through it to check and no pink bits etc, just white and very soft, tasted ok, but mine is usually almost too cooked, so that’s why I wasn’t sure

Nobody can tell you if one piece or four pieces will make you ill.

Hospital would come after several days for constant vomiting or diarrhea if it doesn't stop (3 or 4 days in my DH case) to be put on drip and anti sickness tablets.

Only time will tell.

Try not to worry. It might have been fine. You won't know until tomorrow.

ProfessorInkling · 20/08/2025 16:52

Are people mistaking the onion for chicken?

I thought thigh takes longer to cook than breast?

Icecreamhelps · 20/08/2025 16:54

I sincerely hope you don't get ill. But if you are ever unsure about undercooked food or if it smells off don't eat it.
