Their stuff looks lovely (online on skinny models anyway) - have heard a few good things recently as i had written them off a few years ago. Anyone use them and happy with the product, quality, returns etc

i hate online clothes shop but the high street/town centers are dead in many places now so options are really limited often to just M&S, Next, H&M or Primark

I don't want to kit myself or my children out in discarded second hand clothes. I dont want to , do you hear me ? You might not mind , but I do mind. I never said unaffordable clothing didn't exist. But the fact remains: high street clothing shops are profiteering!! They are !

If you're seriously telling me you feel I should be picking out mine and my children's clothes from charity bags because it suits you and your ethics - you can think again.

It’s your choice to put them in potentially dangerous unsafe fabrics and materials.

the U.K. laws stopped us having that choice for our kids decades ago for good reason. Yet this shit is full of it

Sigh.... Do you want me to just say I'll stop shopping there ? Would that make you happy ? Should I just say that to make people on this thread just stop trying to goad me into admitting I'm some kind of evil incarnate for choosing to shop there ?

Sigh….

I’d like you to use your words correctly if you’re going to make grand proclamations.

Clearly you’re a lost cause, you know children are being treated abhorrently so you can gets you want want wants, so carry on doing what you want because you’re a selfish person who wants to wear cheap crap and doesn’t want to think.

but for every one of you there will be many more readers who will engage their brain and think:

I didn’t realise the extent to which Shein were ethically/legally/environmentally unsound or

I didn’t realise that many cheaper end high street stores have significantly better supply chain or sustainability credentials or

I didn’t realise I risk my babies health by putting them in chemically treated or non fire retardant fabrics.

and they will make better choices

I don't buy Chinese goods if I can help it and certainly don't buy their cotton. Yes, the West should ban their goods but we do billions worth of trade with them and other countries with bad human rights records. We use them to boost profit.

Agreed. And the 'great' British public voted for us to leave the trading partners of the EU, not that it stops trade with China but it would have given greater choice and leverage in terms of options but we chose to move away from our partners and into the arms of America and China.

Thats democracy for you

Apparently

hiintrepidheroes · 20/08/2025 17:37

I’ll always find it odd that attitudes are ‘ew, second hand’ but parents are fine with putting their kids in toxic clothing.

Waitingfordoggo · 20/08/2025 16:36

Come on, you’ll have to try harder than that. You know you can order online.

Yes you can but people also may not like the clothes in the supermarket ranges. Why should people buy clothes they don't like just to keep you happy.

Don't order from supermarkets then. Other options do exist. Obviously.

Supermarkets were the alternative option suggested that were a similar price range to Shein though weren't they.

Cherrysoup · 20/08/2025 19:11

I worry about the ethics. Saying that, is it awful that I’ve bought 2 items secondhand that are Shein? One wasn’t advertised as Shein and has had tons of compliments.

It’s got nothing to do with keeping me happy, it’s about trying to make choices that are better for the planet and its inhabitants.

I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of Vinted but you can buy brand new stuff on there still with tags on. My kids do it all the time. My son has some nice Fred Perry and Ralph Lauren stuff from there (not my scene but he likes those brands) brand new for a fraction of the cost they would be new.

Because it's not about keeping us happy - it's actually about not buying from companies who use child slavery - therein lies your error.

So how is a person who does not drive and on a limited income expected to travel to their local Sainsburys, which may be around 10 miles away just to buy clothes with their weekly shop? They would almost certainly choose the option of walking to the budget supermarket that may be a 5/10 minute walk away. The middle class privilege is strong on this thread. Some families can't afford the bus fare to travel to what you deem a better option.

It's as easy to buy clothes from Sainsbury online as it is from Shein.

MiloMinderbinder925 · 20/08/2025 23:59

No one is asking you to source clothing spun from the wool of hand reared, yoga practicing bunnies and stitched under a full moon by fairies with PHDs who sip chamomile tea while performing interpretive dance tutorials on couture embroidery.

I'm desperate to see this and would definitely buy whatever they made.

it's not about 'lovely' looking stuff though. Do you not care how things are produced???

TheLudditesWereRight · 21/08/2025 09:03

11 billion tons of stuff are shipped around the world a year, 40% of which is fossil fuel. It's worse than aviation for carbon emissions. We all urgently need to stop buying shit we don't need.

They're very likely stolen.

That's funding a whole other unethical trade.....

The stolen or fake ones are easy to spot, the sellers have lots. There's plenty that are just unwanted presents or impulse buys from the TK Max sales. My DH buys some of his work clothes the same way. Takes 30 seconds to check the sellers wardrobe and assess - easy peasy.

GenieGenealogy · 21/08/2025 11:05

I volunteer in a charity shop and we get loads of clothing brand new with tags (as well as other things still sealed in boxes). People buy in the sale, put it away for the following summer and change their mind, or lose/gain weight, or just decide it doesn't fit and they can't be arsed going back to change it, especially if it was bought fairly cheaply. People aren't stealing to donate stuff to a charity shop.

When I was less conscious about my consumption, I bought new things and never wore them. Kept them for a year, planning to resell, then donated them to charity 🙂

The exact same way they buy stuff from shein by tap tap tapping on their phones.

you can even buy second hand stuff with it as well.

you cannot say it’s easier to buy from shein and temu. That argument washes as badly as some of the shite from those sites.

I recently redonated two new with tags dresses that I bought from a charity shop. Full circle 😂

I'm not saying I buy from there because it's easier. I buy from there because I want to and I like the things I buy from there. I honestly couldn't give a flying fuck what anyone on here or anywhere else for that matter thinks about me as a person for choosing to shop there. Enjoy all trying to out do each other on how perfect you are.

No one’s trying to out do anyone. It’s just hard to fathom why anyone would want to put themselves or their children at risk from toxic clothing. Even if you’re not bothered about ethics. You should be bothered about your families health

these sites are also being investigated by gambling commissions due to the spin to win discounts and count down timers. It creates the same buzz as gambling and does create an addiction.

I often wonder if these people would feel the same if it were people like them being exploited to make the clothes. Suppose their water supply was being poisoned. Or if stacks of unworn discarded polyester clothing were all over their neighbourhood.

I strongly suspect they’d feel a lot of rage at the disregard for it and how we don’t see it.
