This is a sort of an open family secret, but if you ever dare to allude to it, it gets swept under the carpet and you’re angrily told “DON’T GO ROUND TELLING PEOPLE THAT 🤬”, but my uncle got someone else’s wife pregnant in the 1960s, and fled to Australia (permanently) to avoid the fall out.

WhitePudding · 16/08/2025 18:08

In John Lewis this morning. I could hear raised voices at the menswear till. I skulked around as you do to listen in. A couple were trying to argue that it was acceptable to bring back men’s briefs that had been worn FOR A YEAR as they had a hole. They just kept on and on and on. I did a whole circuit of the men’s floor and came back and still they were there trying to argue the point. They eventually went over to examine the packs of briefs. Last I saw they were taking ones out and stretching them.

Mmmmm! Not sure Karma won't get you back for that. "Weaponising" gossip is dodgy unless you can prove its true of course!
In my manager days,if someone brought gossip to my office about a colleague, I got to the truth quite quickly. I used to say " Oh right! When did you here this? This sounds serious. I'll just get her/him in now and get this sorted out, because what you've just told me has worried me!" If the person furiously back pedalled I knew it was just gossip or spite and I ignored it. But. The gossips card was marked either way.

Twice at work I have weaponised gossip. The first time, it prevented someone who was a shoo-in from getting promoted. The second time, it resulted in someone who had shat on me getting sacked (NOT for what they did to me, but for something else they did).

Never told ANYONE either of those things IRL.

This is the petty shit I live for. Take it to the grave girl ha.

What's the problem here?

If a customer thinks that the product is defective / not up to standard, why can't they request a refund? I doubt see why pants are any different to other products.

After wearing them for a year!?

usedtobeaylis · 16/08/2025 18:33

I've never told anyone this as we don't talk about it much but my cousin has a 'secret' child - very few people know he's the father. I don't know what the child has been told - they must be in their teens by now. He's got another young child now also who he is raising but he's never acknowledged the first child. The only reason I know this is because my sister became friends with the mother years after the kid was born and she drunkenly told her one night who the dad was, not knowing they were related, and my sister didn't tell her.

Interestingly there's always been a family rumour that this cousin's dad, my uncle, also has a 'secret' child, someone I vaguely know from the area I grew up in. Also unacknowledged.

The fact they were ‘used’ and a year old. Any form of underwear is not going to be pristine after a year’s worth of use unless they are gold lamme from Harrods. Nor did they have the receipt to prove purchase.

Lucyweeks · 16/08/2025 18:36

Well there's a certain cosmetic company owner who is vile to other women particularly if they're curvy.
She was rude to me, then was very insulting to a friend who she interviewed for a job. Sadly for her she approached a colleague of mine for an investment. I vetoed that. He can afford to be picky.

No because he never returned to the UK in the child’s lifetime (they sadly died as a young adult), so nothing could ever be proven.

starsinthedarksky · 16/08/2025 18:56

Keeping it semi vague for obvious reasons.

I was just the final witness in a disciplinary hearing at work. My coworker has been making fatal mistakes since they started working with us at the beginning of the year, along with just being generally unkind to most people. After already having multiple warnings, they’re going to be fired next week. I would say they should know this but they’re so oblivious to their behaviour and never own their mistakes so I am sure this will come as a complete shock for them!

Plinkyplankplonk · 16/08/2025 18:56

Woman who lives opposite me - as soon as her boyfriend isn't there, a different guy comes around, she stands at the doorway watching him leave after a couple of hours all misty eyed

Another neighbour has cheated on his wife with a woman the next street over, she found out and they're still playing not so happy families.

My BFF met her partner on Adult Fun. She told her daughters Plenty of Fish. I'm not sure there's much in it.
