Sister needs weight loss jabs but doesn’t qualify

My step sister has been struggling with her weight all her life
In order fir her to keep her weight stable she has been fighting food noise and cravings since about 13 but has resisted which she describes as a full time job along with exercise which is baked into her life but she hates.
she is a healthy weight and quite slim but at 44 wants a breather from her life revolving around food and food noise.
She wants the jab for some time off all this

Im fat and qualify and use the jabs - 3.5 stone down but still very overweight and now finding that that the suppression lasts longer so have agreed to order my next lot as the starting dose of 2.5 for her so she can have a month or two off

AIBU
she is riddled with food noise and has had over 30 years from a teen with total
food obsession. Virtually sticking her fist in her mouth and doing exercises rather than overeat
agreed she hasn’t put weight on by overeating as has managed not giving in but this has been torture for her and she needs a break

Here in Australia you can get the script online with no photos or checks you just state our weight and height etc. Is there a service like that in the UK she could use?

We have rules about responsible prescribing. I'm sure people find ways round but not having any kind of checks is crazy

malificent7 · 15/08/2025 05:29

Is this for real? She needs councelling not jabs.
Sounds like you have both suffered with food issues....were your parents funny about food etc? Try to find the root cauae ( easier said than done I know).

I did the jabs to get thin end of - no research didn’t care
but apparently the way they work is to address a gene/hormone us fatties are lacking that make us feel full
or satiated? Or something like that
So - well she clearly doesn’t have that gene/hormone either
as has been battling the same feelings as me for decades ? just because she managed not to give in and eat and get overweight doesn’t mean she doesn’t have the same deficiency no?

That is not how they work at all

Houndsahollering · 15/08/2025 05:35

Ridiculous idea OP.
she would benefit more from a therapist who specialises in food addiction/eating disorders otherwise the noise will still be there in a months time when you aren’t giving her your medication anymore.

CoastalCalm · 15/08/2025 05:36

What you are proposing is illegal you can’t give a prescribed medication to someone

IamNotBeingUnreasonable · 15/08/2025 05:37

Isn't it illegal to give prescribed meds to another person?
Don't be an idiot.

Zanatdy · 15/08/2025 05:39

How will you feel if she gets acute pancreatitis. A rare, but documented side effect. I’ve had it 5 times, it can be fatal. They will ask where she got them from and why she was taking them. Your excuse sounds ridiclous. I’m always hungry as always having to watch what I eat. But taking the jabs for a break from that? Insane.

Shoxfordian · 15/08/2025 05:48

She could be really ill if you do this op, she needs therapy not mounjaro

Crake1792 · 15/08/2025 05:53

Food noise? Weight loss injections? Wow the world has gone nuts.

It just takes a little self control. 70 years ago almost no one was obese.

Are you saying that 70 years ago people had more will power? You know that not why there's an obesity crisis, right?

Vaxtable · 15/08/2025 01:17

I am going to be rude here but you are an idiot

the jabs are not meant for people who are a healthy weight which she is, she will lose more weight, and what happens in two months when you have put weight back on, which you will do, she has lost more which is not good and doesn’t want to stop the jabs?

The noise you talk about will simply start again

she needs to go and see a Dr and get an appointment for eating disorder help, thereby, whatever to help her control but not the jabs you are ridiculous

Not rude, factual. You are 100% correct the OP would be stupid for doing this.

iloveeverykindofcat · 15/08/2025 06:02

Health risks aside OP she is asking you to commit a crime. The penality is usually a fine, but technically can carry up to 2 years in prison.

FluffyWabbit · 15/08/2025 06:03

With compassion, I think the world has created victims of everything that requires effort. There is no fat gene but there are chemicals in the food that means we react differently, mentally and physically, to certain foods.

Reduce carbs and, importantly, processed and ultra processed foods. You will enter a completely different world where 'food noise' and 'addiction' simply won't exist.

No one overeats eggs, anchovies, steak, chicken breast, lettuce etc.

Charltonstrek · 15/08/2025 06:03

Have I got this straight your sister needs a break from watching her intake so thinks she can eat what she wants if she has your weight loss jabs because quite honestly it doesn't work like that.
Also I do understand her battle I've lost 5st but still been careful about what I eat and its driving me insane it's a battle staying off nice things but I'd never think about taking weight Jabs to have a break

Blushingm · 15/08/2025 06:13

cyvguhb · 15/08/2025 05:54

70 years ago there wasn’t the fast food and processed food we have now - some things were also still rationed!

people were also much more active too

Empress13 · 15/08/2025 06:15

have you taken leave of what little sense you have?

Radiowaawaa · 15/08/2025 06:17

She could have a break from ignoring the ‘food noise’ (hunger?) by having a month off of dieting and eating what she wants rather than taking a medication that isn’t prescribed for her. Either way she will struggle afterwards to an extent.

Charltonstrek · 15/08/2025 06:23

Classic example of people thinking weight loss jabs will do all of the hard work for me.

Yellowbirdcage · 15/08/2025 06:25

She wouldn’t be the only one in the world taking WLI when she’s slim. I believe it’s rife in the US amongst wealthy/celeb types. Will probably be quite normal in the future. I know of one UK woman who just lied to an online provider. Mine asks for photos regularly but there’s no ID check so I assume I could just upload a picture of a random fat person. They do have my GP details but I have never been to my GP.
But you can’t be a part of it OP. What if things go wrong? You’d never forgive yourself.

Pinky1256 · 15/08/2025 06:25

If she can't control or struggles to control herself around food then she needs therapy. She needs a lifestyle and stick to it, such as keto or low carb, whatever works for her.

It's unhealthy to just eat whatever she wants (binge) because you will give her your jabs! Which should only be taken when they are prescribed for you! You can potentially put her life in danger and you would be liable for it. I'm pro jabs but you do need doctor supervision and you can't take jabs forever, once you are on your ideal weight, you have to make it into a lifestyle.

Ontheedgeofit · 15/08/2025 06:27

OP I hear you. All the information about what this drug is supposed to help people… control food noise, satiate hunger, reduce appetite etc and it appears that it is only available to those who are unable to help themselves through their own will or actions.

Seems the best advice to your sister would be to stop trying so hard, let herself go, pick up two stone, qualify for the drug and be happy.

Ooodelally · 15/08/2025 06:28

Has she asked you to commit this crime or have you offered and she’s jumped at the chance? If she has asked you to break the law for her I hope you are able to really look at the boundaries you have with your family and look at getting therapy to help you strengthen these.

WatermelonKiwi · 15/08/2025 06:28

Setting aside the fact it’s totally wrong, will it really just be a breather though? What happens when her ‘breather’ is over? Isn’t it just going to make it harder for her to get back to eating sensibly and exercising?!

arcticpandas · 15/08/2025 06:30

The main problem is that your sister would go from normal weight to underweight on the jabs.

PlayfulWrangler · 15/08/2025 06:30

Now come on - this is click bait.
