Sister needs weight loss jabs but doesn’t qualify

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 15/08/2025 00:00

My step sister has been struggling with her weight all her life
In order fir her to keep her weight stable she has been fighting food noise and cravings since about 13 but has resisted which she describes as a full time job along with exercise which is baked into her life but she hates.
she is a healthy weight and quite slim but at 44 wants a breather from her life revolving around food and food noise.
She wants the jab for some time off all this

Im fat and qualify and use the jabs - 3.5 stone down but still very overweight and now finding that that the suppression lasts longer so have agreed to order my next lot as the starting dose of 2.5 for her so she can have a month or two off

AIBU
she is riddled with food noise and has had over 30 years from a teen with total
food obsession. Virtually sticking her fist in her mouth and doing exercises rather than overeat
agreed she hasn’t put weight on by overeating as has managed not giving in but this has been torture for her and she needs a break

I did the jabs to get thin end of - no research didn’t care
but apparently the way they work is to address a gene/hormone us fatties are lacking that make us feel full
or satiated? Or something like that
So - well she clearly doesn’t have that gene/hormone either
as has been battling the same feelings as me for decades ? just because she managed not to give in and eat and get overweight doesn’t mean she doesn’t have the same deficiency no?

The gene hormone is a new aged problem.
Unfortunately we are programmed to store food in a society where there is plenty.

I don’t know who is being more idiotic. You for ordering them or her for considering (and potentially) taking them.

it’s neck in neck

Neck AND neck.

theyoungishman · 15/08/2025 01:10

How do you think slim people stay slim? We all have (made up term) 'food noise' but we choose to not give into it all the time. We could all drink too much alcohol (drink noise?) if we also chose to give into it.
Your sister is not overweight, does not need jabs, and you are being ignorant, ridiculous and dangerous. As much as you might sneer at therapy, sounds like your sister could use it.

But you don't want to hear this anyway, you only want people to agree with you. Not going to happen.

CurlyCabbage · 15/08/2025 01:13

Surely this is a troll thread and i will report as such. But if you are reading and this thread stays up despite the stupidity youre wanting to engage in. Let me ask you this.

You want her to have a break from her food noise for a bit. She has the jab and does have a break. She loses weight that she doesnt need to. Then what? Shell stop the jab, food noise returns and what then? Back on the jabs for another round?

Are you bitter that her ‘self control’ has worked all these years and you want her to feel the desperate need that some people suffering obesity have in their reliance on this jab? Something is certainly amis. Ive never read something so utterly stupid.

news states today that the prices for mounjaro will be now be massively raised to align with US and Europe. In some ways i am glad that people like this may be put off and not taking the p*.

mamabearlove · 15/08/2025 01:16

Everything you have said about your sister screams ED and that is why the injections are heavily regulated. Do not share your injections with anyone!

GiveItAGoMalcom · 15/08/2025 00:10

What on earth did people used to say before 'food noise' became the cool and trendy must-use phrase?

Anyway that aside, of course YABU and I'm sure you know it, just as everyone on this thread will be able to work out you know it too.

I was wondering this same thing!

PinkArt · 15/08/2025 01:17

Yeah, crack on. It's a fucking brilliant idea. Get her 'jabbing up every week' with the girls. Maybe you could get her some heroin too, cheer her up a bit?

Vaxtable · 15/08/2025 01:17

I am going to be rude here but you are an idiot

the jabs are not meant for people who are a healthy weight which she is, she will lose more weight, and what happens in two months when you have put weight back on, which you will do, she has lost more which is not good and doesn’t want to stop the jabs?

The noise you talk about will simply start again

she needs to go and see a Dr and get an appointment for eating disorder help, thereby, whatever to help her control but not the jabs you are ridiculous

I do suffer a lot of wine noise 😭 it’s debilitating

@LeopardPants I suffer from wine noise too, but like the OP’s (possibly mythical) sister, I can ignore it.

I did have cheesecake noise today though and I gave into it. 😂

AliceMcK · 15/08/2025 02:11

What are the reasons she dosnt qualify? This would be my biggest issue. I have a friend who wanted me to do similar, I personally felt she didn’t need them but my main reasoning was she had to many health issues I was not going to be responsible if something happened to her. In the end I was able to convince her the dangers with her health.

I personally would do it in your situation but only if you and DSis had done all the checks on her health and made sure there wasn’t something that would clash with the drug.

Also be careful as the food noise can come back even stronger, mine came back with a vengeance when I stopped last time and when you start retaking you may not have the same effects you’ve had after taking a break.

borntoblossom · 15/08/2025 02:20

Has she tried doing keto, that really helps me with cravings, and obsessive thoughts about food. That might give her a break for a bit if it works for her.

ElaineBurdock · 15/08/2025 02:21

I'm taking this medication. Many people have said that if they stop taking it cold turkey the food noise comes back worse than before.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 15/08/2025 02:41

Yes, they haven't dealt with the emotional attachment to the addiction.

Take the time to learn relaxation techniques, yoga, distractions, daily reminders, while you're on the jab, if you have to come off it, you'll be prepared.

If most people admitted that it was an addiction and dealt with the addiction through OA or similar they're much more likely to overcome the obsession.

Like every addiction when you fall off the wagon, it's much harder to get back on, the fix doubles to make up for lost time, you've to hold on with both hands, constantly conscious of the consequences if you slip.

It gets easier with time. Learned this in NA. 🤭

I was wondering this same thing!

Non-stop cravings?

PennyRest · 15/08/2025 03:02

Can’t believe what I’ve just read!

Silverbirchleaf · 15/08/2025 03:30

Maybe she needs to change how she eats. For example, I know if I eat Shreddies for breakfast, I’m hungry by 10am, but by eating porridge, I can last longer. She needs to up her protein at every meal. It’s ti do with the glycemic index of food.

FluffyWabbit · 15/08/2025 04:11

'Food noise' is such a ridiculous term.

From someone who has lost and kept off 16 stone, we all have 'noise' that we control with discipline, distraction or other coping mechanisms.

Her using distraction is fine. It doesn't make her tormented or whatever. It makes her a healthy adult using coping mechanisms so that she doesn't do something else not healthy for her.

The fact she is slim, despite the life long 'noise' shows that her coping skills are working with the desired effect.

Neemie · 15/08/2025 04:19

Virtually everyone gets ‘food noise’. Why do you think people are so upset about the jabs? It isn’t because they are breezing through life being naturally slim. It doesn’t justify you illegally supplying prescription drugs because you feel sorry for them.

JustMyView13 · 15/08/2025 04:52

I’m not sure what answer you were anticipating when you came to a public forum and asked whether we think redistributing prescription medicine without a licence is a good idea. Note, it’s not legal.
If she has a bad reaction to the drug & it’s fatal, you will have to live with that emotionally (and the guilt noise will be louder than any food noise), and you will be answerable to the coroner and eventually the police. Or maybe in the other order.

chloe22whitethorn · 15/08/2025 04:52

I’m sorry but this is the stupidest thread I’ve read on here for ages.

you says your sister is slim, has food noise and just wants to step off the hamster wheel for a while?

welcome to life sweetie, choose your hard if you want something you have to work to maintain it. Taking the jabs will only make her thinner it won’t maintain her current weight, it might cause other health issues and if something happens to her because you’ve given her the jabs could you live with yourself?

I seriously hope you locate your common sense.

healthybychristmas · 15/08/2025 04:53

I have always thought it would be amazing if this could be used for anorexia.

TheMrsCampbellBlack · 15/08/2025 05:20

Here in Australia you can get the script online with no photos or checks you just state our weight and height etc. Is there a service like that in the UK she could use?

LoudSnoringDog · 15/08/2025 05:21

She sounds like she needs therapy, not a jab.

Not a legal one
