Sister needs weight loss jabs but doesn’t qualify

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 15/08/2025 00:00

My step sister has been struggling with her weight all her life
In order fir her to keep her weight stable she has been fighting food noise and cravings since about 13 but has resisted which she describes as a full time job along with exercise which is baked into her life but she hates.
she is a healthy weight and quite slim but at 44 wants a breather from her life revolving around food and food noise.
She wants the jab for some time off all this

Im fat and qualify and use the jabs - 3.5 stone down but still very overweight and now finding that that the suppression lasts longer so have agreed to order my next lot as the starting dose of 2.5 for her so she can have a month or two off

AIBU
she is riddled with food noise and has had over 30 years from a teen with total
food obsession. Virtually sticking her fist in her mouth and doing exercises rather than overeat
agreed she hasn’t put weight on by overeating as has managed not giving in but this has been torture for her and she needs a break

Sticking her fist in her mouth to avoid eating is extreme, and the constant brain battle needs intervention before she loses her mind. 😥

I did the same but with food not a fist and got fat
same issue different ways of handling it I guess
I always thought She was just blessed with more self control and willpower

guess food has ruined a part of her just like it has me and half the women I work with all jabbing up every week

This cannot be a serious thread.

I did the jabs to get thin end of - no research didn’t care
but apparently the way they work is to address a gene/hormone us fatties are lacking that make us feel full
or satiated? Or something like that
So - well she clearly doesn’t have that gene/hormone either
as has been battling the same feelings as me for decades ? just because she managed not to give in and eat and get overweight doesn’t mean she doesn’t have the same deficiency no?

If she wants to eat then she should eat.

Then if she eats so much that she gets as fat as you did, she can get the same drugs you did.

But for all you know that may not happen.

But again you know this.

Have you explored any psychological feelings around it. Google overeating anonymous videos, take the god part out, the 12 step program has saved millions of lives despite being a bit woo by exploring the addiction.

I guess in the same way it hasn’t remedied the obesity crisis it may not work here either x

Even if you are a qualified doctor, you should not be prescribing to family.

(leaving all the other, enormous issues aside)

You're not alone, addiction is horrendous.
The feeling of no control, constant noise, secretly hiding, shame, around and around, it's tough.
Peace of mind is invaluable.
Has she tried appetite suppressants.
I understand you want to be a good sister but this might set you back too, plus if anything happened you could be criminally charged, there are plenty of people selling black market prescriptions, if she wants it badly enough, she'll find a seller.
Tell her you can't.

Food noise is an addiction response, when I had an addiction (not food) it was all I thought about.
Open eyes, have fix.
Similarly to alcoholic who needs a drink in the day, your Dsis can spend her life battling, or treat her addiction.
The 12 step programme enables people to deal with obsessive thoughts, helping take the desire away.
She would greatly benefit from joining over eating anonymous.

I agree with @EmeraldShamrock000, she needs some type of support and therapy to help with her addictive thoughts.

To be fair - when you think what we spending on jabs -150-200 quid a month could all afford private therapy
xx

thing is that means not putting food in in your mouth and ingesting
the jabs take that desire away/ hence we all getting slim

I don’t know who is being more idiotic. You for ordering them or her for considering (and potentially) taking them.

it’s neck in neck

QueenBeyNot · 15/08/2025 00:50

I’m not sure I understand wanting to take the jab to suppress food noise, but not lose weight. They will go hand in hand and she will likely struggle to eat at all, that’s before the common side effects of sickness and diarrhoea.
Your sister has an eating disorder OP, don’t enable it.

@Mondaytuesdayhappydays I thought that she was a healthy weight though? She’s not obese, she has obsessive thoughts about food.

Surely that’s a mental health issue rather than physical health? The jabs may reduce cravings but she’ll also lose weight that she doesn’t need to lose. Being underweight has other risks.

Isittimeformynapyet · 15/08/2025 00:56

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 15/08/2025 00:22

But her feelings are the same as mine around food tho?
she doesn't get the being fat by product agreed tho I guess …

But, but, but.

I think the general consensus so far is YABFU.

You know that though, don't you, you little scamp.

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 15/08/2025 00:12

When I get to her weight I will still qualify for them?
so not sure where there harm is ?
If she put on two stone she would qualify anyway?

she just wants a breather

’If she put on two stone she may qualify, but actually being prescribed them is a different matter. My DH is on Mounjaro and had to have a face to face interview with his GP, medication checks to see if the drug would affect any of his other meds, and blood tests, cholesterol and blood pressure monitoring.

Does she have any underlying health problems ? Is she taking any regular meds ? Certain blood thinners, for example, can be lethal when combined with Mounjaro. It’s always stupid and irresponsible to share with others, medicines you have been prescribed for your own use. Weight loss drugs are no different. If she doesn’t qualify on NHS can she afford to buy them - she could consult with her GP before ordering them to see if it’s safe.

It's not really extreme - it's pointless and daft.

Disturbia81 · 15/08/2025 01:01

Most of us who are slim are constantly fighting it and denying ourselves, it’s just how it is and it’s not worth the health risks to have the jab.
