Disgusted at this advertisement on a bus (photo included)

Does anyone else find this imagery completely inappropriate in this day and age, or am I a prude as my husband so kindly put it? It unnecessarily objectifies women and I thought we’d moved on from this sort of thing.

@Kerry71 would you of created this thread if it had been a picture of a man's pair of legs in shorts ?

It's just sensible advice , bus drivers ( on the whole ) are very good at their job but other muppets mean that sometimes they have to slam their anchors on. So its safer to stay seated

'A trans'. Like 'a homeless' on Brass Eye. I despair.

No as in transgender you know as some would say chick with a dick.

Blinky21 · 13/08/2025 21:27

It's outdated and weird, and it's pretty easy to fall over in trainers if the bus jolts. Surprised this got past a modern marketing team, assuming it did

lifeonmars100 · 13/08/2025 21:27

very dated

Zov · 13/08/2025 21:27

Can't say it bothers me @Kerry71 Smile It's just a pair of legs with some nice shoes on the feet!

Since the 1980s?

😄😄 no not that long

I often think it is so we can’t run away too.
A rapist’s dream.

I have always thought this

landlordhell · 13/08/2025 21:31

It’s an odd choice for 2025.

ThePoliteLion · 13/08/2025 21:31

I had some black stilettos like that in 1987. Would love to know who signed off that ad because it’s in a time warp.
I don’t object to the legs though

MaidOfSteel · 13/08/2025 21:33

You’re right, OP. The poster could’ve been any pair of legs in trousers, but they had to sex it up a bit, didn’t they. I’m sick of this kind of sexist crap.

Blushingm · 13/08/2025 21:39

Well it did what it was intended to do - you’ve looked at it and read it

its just a pair of legs

Really? I mean REALLY?!?!
All I can say is, congratulations on just how little stress you must be under in real life, if this is all you've got to get upset about 🙄🙄

likeafishneedsabike · 13/08/2025 21:47

It’s giving Rivals

Jamesblonde2 · 13/08/2025 21:49

I think the heels are relevant to the person being unsteady. Trainers wouldn’t have the same impact for the safety message, as you would be more stable in trainers. I think it’s fine. Normal woman.

SammyScrounge · 13/08/2025 21:50

mrsembarassed69 · 13/08/2025 18:28

I was thinking this. It almost makes me laugh!

I can't see anything wrong with it. You would have to work really hard to find something offensive about it.

Crazymayfly · 13/08/2025 21:56

XenoBitch · 13/08/2025 18:09

What do you think it should be? A pair of legs in jogging bottoms?
To me, someone in heels would be more unstable if standing whilst the bus is moving. Maybe that is why they chose that particular image.

But, you remembered it, so that ad has worked. That is all they have to do... get you to remember them.

Yep I just assumed it was more being unstable on heels - but maybe that’s because I can hardly seat whilst wearing heels without being unstable!

Crazyworldmum · 13/08/2025 22:03

You are choosing to be offended

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 13/08/2025 22:04

How do you know its a woman?

nam3c4ang3 · 13/08/2025 22:07

Ffs is this what women are mad about? Seriously? A pair of legs. The perpetually offended. We’re screwed as a generation. What would make it better - men in a suit? Or is that sexist too? I think you should write to the bus company to complain.

"Why are there only images of men? Are they saying only men can be business people and travel?"

abracadabra1980 · 13/08/2025 22:09

I absolutely love anything that takes me back to the carefree 80's, so it's a 'no, I'm not offended' from me. Just makes me laugh.

WhereIsMyJumper · 13/08/2025 22:15

XenoBitch · 13/08/2025 20:41

This thread 🙄

It is legs. To be fair, if it had to be a pair of legs that most represented the area the bus is in, where I live it would be joggers, trainers, walking frame and an ankle tag.

An ankle tag 😂😂😂😂😂

SmallChanges3 · 13/08/2025 22:32

On a superficial level, it's a shit, mediocre advertisement.

On a deeper level, I can read it as the advertiser telling a woman her place, that she is to to stay seated. It leans into the dichotomy of men being protectors and women needing help. The fact she's wearing stilleto heels, and is crossing her legs is suggestive; that men are dominant and women are something to be controlled and objectified.

But maybe that's just the English grad in me.

Edited

I am glad I am simple minded and saw a pair of legs in shoes that would cause issues when the bus is moving.

I sometimes despair a little at some of the stuff people choose to wear but I cant get worked up about a woman wearing a skirt that shows mainly the lower half of her legs and a smart pair of heels. Are you only happy if women wear trousers or long skirts and only flat shoes?

Not at all. I don't like wearing trousers much and I generally wear skirts above my knees. And I'm not 'worked up' about a woman wearing whatever she likes. I just question why women would choose to wear something so impractical. Shoes without heels can also be smart..
