Does anyone else find this imagery completely inappropriate in this day and age, or am I a prude as my husband so kindly put it? It unnecessarily objectifies women and I thought we’d moved on from this sort of thing.

Is this all you have to worry about in life? Disgusted? Really? 🤔😆

I think using and objectifying women to sell stuff is the very definition of sexism. Don’t get me started on why it absolutely HAD TO BE a pair of high heels and a mini skirt to make the point.

edit for typo

Blimey, I wouldn’t call that a mini skirt, but it’s obv offended you.

Putneydad7 · 14/08/2025 18:24

If we get any more prudish we'll be putting doilies around the table legs.
If you look at what young women wear on a night out, you can see that they are deliberately choosing clothes so that men objectify them.

So much better than Burkas though.

indoorplantqueen · 14/08/2025 18:30

I think it’s really old fashioned. I don’t know anyone who wears heels like that, especially on public transport. Do they have other adverts with men, children’s legs etc?

Ha ha. Lazy marketing that objectifies women offends me. Mini skirts don’t, I’m quite partial to one myself because I’ve got fantastic pins.

In what way is it objectifying women? If it was a man wearing shorts would that be men getting objectified? Or is it only women's legs that are sexual?

This poster upset me today because its a face that looks like a child

It looks heavily photoshopped or AI

But not a child

The idea is "this is what you could look like" not "this young face needs more youth serum"

I wear shorts skirts/dresses/playsuits because I like them not to be objectified

Suggesting you only wear certain clothes to be objectified is part of the problem...

Only women's legs in the imagine mini skirt that we can't see to even know what they're wearing

Octoberdreaming · 14/08/2025 18:49

It’s a bit cringeworthy and out dated yeah but nothing I would be clutching pearls over.

Anchorage56 · 14/08/2025 18:56

SoScarletItWas · 14/08/2025 18:49

Sigh. It’s reductive, it’s clichéd. Have a read, you might learn a bit about how we’re treated in advertising.

https://adfreecities.org.uk/what-we-do/selling-sexism-body-image-gender-and-corporate-advertising/

It's not a new advert. Hence why it looks old fashioned. I think part of the problem is how your mind works- a woman wearing a skirt and heels- oh that's sexual. Rather than oh that looks like she could be a strong confident working woman.

Sillibilliboi · 14/08/2025 18:57

JackGrealishsBobbySocks · 13/08/2025 18:30

I couldn't give a fucking fuck.

I swear this country is being overrun by the most ridiculous wave of prudishness.

I wouldn't give a shiny shite. They're just legs but they're women's legs. In high heels no less, cue much pearl clutching. "So old fashioned". So what? Women can wear whatever the hell they want, whether that be a flesh coloured tank top, leggings and trainers or skirts n tights with high heels. One of those choices will however make it much more difficult to stand on public transport.

Yes to the prudes. It's why so many people choose to say gender when they really mean sex.

What?

I was agreeing with you

GiveDogBone · 14/08/2025 18:58

Legs should be much chubbier, together with a couple of ankle tattoos. At least on a London bus.

LillyPJ · 14/08/2025 18:58

Kelly1969 · 14/08/2025 18:02

But they’re not selling anything, it’s a warning not to stand up until the train stops

The 'selling' is in the sense of 'selling' an idea - it doesn't necessarily mean an exchange of money for goods or services. In this case they are trying to promote ('sell') safety.

I was agreeing it's silly to have an issue with a woman's legs when a man in shorts could appear the same amount of flesh and be ok. And adding that we don't even know she's wearing a mini skirt as we can't see more than just above her knee, where any number of not mini skirts could be

LillyPJ · 14/08/2025 19:02

@SoScarletItWas Thanks. It's sad that so many women seem oblivious to the way they are exploited. I guess we're moving in the right direction but it's painfully slow.

I actually think some of the women on here view women just as sexually as the men. Getting worked up over the bottom half of a woman's legs?

mumofoneAloneandwell · 13/08/2025 18:06

I dont think so, i think its fine tbh, its just a pair of legs

It does look like an old advert though, like maybe its been there a while

Unless it’s been there since the 70s or 80s 😂

I agree op, it’s lazy outdated imagery imo. Shapely legs in stilettos 🙄🙄🙄

why the need for a picture at all?? Oh yes, it’s to attract attention and nothing does that better than female flesh. Of any amount.

reminds me of the stickers air traffic had in the 70/80s, get em down safely with air traffic control. Woman in heels like this pulling down her underwear. I mean

onedogatoddlerandababy · 14/08/2025 19:09

I can’t be doing with replying any more. So boring that we still have to put up with this shit and all the cool girls are getting right on my unobjectified tits.
