That place was daylight robbery. I can't understand why anyone went there when the options for cheaper sparkly tat are endless.

We have a dodgy one called Euro X-press. Hardly any customers, "American sweets", all long life products. I've walked past it almost every day, sometimes twice a day for over two years and it appears to exist on fresh air.

I wouldn’t call that a European shop, that’s an American candy shop - yeh they are quite often drug fronts. Hate them. Government needs to do more to shut them down. I’d report them tbh.

Would agree re barber shops as a lot have been linked to money laundering.

not sure what you mean by the European shops?

There seem to be quite a lot of Eastern European "specialty" convenience stores that never have any customers and seem to have piles of the cheaper kinds of stock which appear just to make the shop look "full" and prosperous. The sort of place where you go in and the staff behind the counter glare at you, and there's a kind of impression that you're not welcome. Maybe, maybe not, money laundering. Maybe something else like selling duty free booze/cigarettes from under the counter.

Yeah, I hear you on this. I went to one in London like this not too long ago. All feels very sketchy…

Unfortunately for them everything you can buy in there you can buy on Shein Temu and Amazon at the same price and quality, and also from the same original source most likely.
They do nothing that sets them apart to make them better than the online places, its just extortionately overpriced due to them having overheads the websites don't have. I'm not sorry to see it go.

Agreed. However having bought few things from online, its difficult to tell the quality although cheaper. Claires would do better if it reduced prices and continued their piercings as that cant be online.

If it does go, it should honour customers and staff points to get as many sales in to pay debts. I dont think they realise by stopping the redemption right now, they are stopping sales and losing customers.

I had £20 rewards and couldn't use them in store. A friend went to another store and used hers so I went to that store on Greenwich and managed to use. People are losing out as it is allowed in selected stores.

purpleme12 · 01/10/2025 08:53

Oh I thought they'd stopped them everywhere

I'd used all mine up anyway

I have bought a few things since the announcement was made. But I like Claire's and don't think it's all tat like people on here seem to

Swiftie1878 · 01/10/2025 09:32

Good riddance.

They've been bought. So not closing.
You're a bit out of date.

I don't throw away anything we've bought from Claire's unless it's broken beyond repair and where I live any plastic that ends up in the regular rubbish gets burned for creating electricity.
So nothing I have bought there should end up in landfill.

I don’t understand why we don’t have more of the facilities that burn everything to create electricity. Appreciate that they require huge investment but long term, they’re win/win, financially, environmentally and in terms of energy security.
Trouble is, politicians don’t do long-term 🙄

We’ve one in Perth. Brilliant fruit/veg and great bread. They’ll post food to Ukraine for you.

That’s exactly it - politicians do not do long-term, and that is what we drastically need as a civilisation.

Yes.
Cheaper overall prices instead of "Buy 3 get 3 free" will be just fine.

I thought that too but it is unfair that some stores allowed them for a while. They should have allowed all stores to honour them for a week or so. It would have kept sales going as the manager said people were walking away and also shouting at them.
Now that they are bought, I hope they honour the rewards to keep the customers otherwise back to square one.

They need to start by keeping the customers.

I'm surprised they lasted this long tbh

Hopefully they dont close down but I've not shopped there in 20 years almost

No, Claire's was always my go-to for hair accessories and cheap earrings. After my entire 30 years worth of jewellery was stolen Claire's was there to start replenishing it without breaking the bank,

purpleme12 · 01/10/2025 14:52

Yes this is what I use it for too
