To think this is a stonkingly good summer?!

Admittedly I’m in the (lovely)) south east and we are blessed with pretty decent summers generally but so far this summer has been amazing!

9am, and I’m out in the garden, having my coffee and planning trip to beach with my teens for the day. And the sunny warm weather stretches in to the future forecast for days.

Bliss

In Scotland it’s hot for once (stuck at work though) we have had some good spells but mostly humid grey weather with a bit of rain. Only problem is every nice area is rammed with people desperate for some sun. I can’t actually get anywhere in my own town!

cadburyegg · 13/08/2025 10:11

I agree, this is what summer should look like

It's farmers in THIS country which = higher food prices for us all

Worth it!

Yes its been great. Last year was awful.

I want another like 2018 as it was hot for weeks.

Don’t worry, you’ll be getting your wish.

DoctorMarten · 13/08/2025 10:14

Lovely on the south coast - though we were on the beach yesterday evening and a fret came over (sea mist). Chilly! But I like it cooler in the evenings.

StMarie4me · 13/08/2025 10:14

It is! For those that love the sun, enjoy!

Spare a (beautifully tanned and serene) thought for those of us who are sweaty messes on medications that make us severely susceptible to the sun and the heat though. 😩

But yeah, it’s great for kids and people who like the sun!

Hyperion100 · 13/08/2025 10:19

Oh my god its fantastic 😂

Agree the weather has been absolutely brilliant. Usually we get some nice days in June and then it turns when the school holidays start - we had a bit of that, but it soon went back to warm and sunny.

Absolutely loving it.

The thing no one talks about, not surprisingly because, y'know, pandemic, was how incredibly lucky we were with spring/summer 2020, in SE at least. It was literally warm and dry from April to late September in the year we could only entertain ourselves outside the house outdoors. It would have been awful with an archetypal British Summer.

Yes!!! Hardly anyone mentions this but that was the last good summer we had. I remember getting up at 5am most days to go to the park in lockdown and it was glorious.

This summer has been really similar. My lawn is dead though, but can't have everything!

chattyness · 13/08/2025 10:22

It hasn't been brilliant here on the north west coast of Scotland, last year was much better. It is quite nice today at long last

ETA : I agree the Summer of 2020 was the best Summer we've had here in many a long year. It was so lovely quiet due to travel restrictions on tourism, we had all our favourite dog walking spots to ourselves for months in beautiful weather, it was like we'd gone back in time to the 70's when there was hardly any road traffic.

BunnyLake · 13/08/2025 10:22

I thought it was gorgeous yesterday. I was walking along thinking how perfect it was, not too hot just lovely and warm. I could happily have that all year round on a purely selfish basis. Today it’s a bit cloudy and muggy but it’s easier for me to do the garden in cloudier weather.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/08/2025 10:23

YANBU but you know how this temperature preference threads always go…

Justagirl95 · 13/08/2025 10:23

Yes! I love it.

I am very concerned about climate change though

alltoowelltmv · 13/08/2025 09:16

Hmm, I was saying to my teen dd last night that it's pretty much mid august and we haven't had much of a summer yet. Its been dry, then wet, then dry but cloudy with these few days of heatwaves but not the stretches of sunny weather I thought I remembered from my childhood

But I don't like the heat as I just sweat buckets and get headaches so it suits me 😆

That’s interesting. Do you mind saying where you’re from?

twistyizzy · 13/08/2025 10:04

For the first time ever I am having to feed hay + hard feed over summer 😞 It's not good at all. Thankfully managed to secure straw and hay for winter but at 2-3 times the usual cost. Many will struggle as we know the farmer well and have a good relationship so he always prioritises us

It's so sad and stressful!!
We have our own hay on our farm and prices not rising for us, only external clients, but straw might be an issue, i have to use barley due to one pony having a wheat allergy and i refuse to use shavings of any sort 😂

Doing outdoor chores in this weather is hell too. I'm bored of being a sweaty mess.

I hate sitting around so sitting in the sun really would be hell. Too busy for that anyway 😂

Come on, RAIN!!

Wiltedgeranium · 13/08/2025 10:27

I think that's the thing. I could happy live in this all year round. But this is not that country. And even if I can adapt quickly to it, the wildlife and ecosystem can't.

The best of all worlds would be a proper, 4 season one where it rains enough at the right time and it's sunny enough at the right time. This all feels off. Glorious, but off. Even if it were days on end in the early 20s, it wouldn't feel quite as extreme.

PineappleSeahorse · 13/08/2025 10:31

DappledThings · 13/08/2025 09:16

Last year was better. There were more cooler stretches between the heat. Today is looking much nicer today than forecast. It's cool and overcast but dry. Still meant to get up to 25 later but nice now.

It's been OK this year, too many stretches over 25 are too much for me

Same here though for me last year was worse. It was a total washout with only a few sunny days. This Spring was brilliant though.

This Summer has been slightly better but not by much. We haven’t had any real stretches of sunny days. It’s been a day or two here or there. I’m decidedly not a lover of heat, quite the opposite, but I would appreciate more sun so long as the temperature doesn’t get too high.

I’m just outside of Glasgow.

Lostfidgetcube · 13/08/2025 10:32

I'm glad you're enjoying it but I can't wait for it to be over 😂

WithOnlyTheMemories · 13/08/2025 10:35

It's been quite mixed here. Some nice, hot days but plenty grey/rainy/cool days.

And obviously on the day I planned an outdoor family party with new gazebo, it was torrential all day 😂

thebraveryofbeingoutofrange · 13/08/2025 10:36

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/08/2025 10:23

YANBU but you know how this temperature preference threads always go…

I’m guessing there’ll be a mixture of people who love the heat and those that don’t. Both of which are perfectly understandable. Anyone complaining about it being too hot doesn’t influence the weather in any way.

MotherofPearl · 13/08/2025 10:44

The extreme heat here and in Europe this summer is frankly terrifying imo. It’s a harbinger of the climate change horror that we are now starting to really experience. How anyone can delight in it is beyond me. Wild fires in Europe, people evacuated from their homes, parched countryside in the UK, water shortages, farmers not having enough grazing for cattle, vulnerable people dying of heat-related complications - the list goes on. I really don’t see how anyone can enjoy the hot weather when you understand what it means and what the future looks like. As a pp said, think of the impact on food prices if nothing else.

EchoedSilence · 13/08/2025 11:17

I don't consider temperatures in the late 20s for a few days extreme heat.

KPPlumbing · 13/08/2025 11:20

It's been a dream!

I've been outside every chance I get, have done loads of hiking, and DH and I have spent many a balmy Friday night drinking cocktails in the garden.

It's definitely been one to remember.

unicornpower · 13/08/2025 11:23

It’s glorious! We have had consistently brilliant weather since May with just the odd rubbish day but nothing horrendous or that I remember much of- we’ve had dreamy days in the park, by the rivers and my children have made good use of the paddling pool- it’s been a fabulous summer. Will be sorry to see it go.

Ariela · 13/08/2025 11:53

I have the most lovely neighbours - I'm swimming in their pool every day, early, before work, absolutely lovely way to start the day. They don't use it at that time, so said come and enjoy it (I do return the favour with home grown veg, and bottles of wine though). Only once has it rained - and it was still warm so I swam anyway.
