Admittedly I’m in the (lovely)) south east and we are blessed with pretty decent summers generally but so far this summer has been amazing!

9am, and I’m out in the garden, having my coffee and planning trip to beach with my teens for the day. And the sunny warm weather stretches in to the future forecast for days.

Bliss

Yes it's been amazing since April! I feel like we've had almost all our lunches (and a lot of dinners, breakfasts) outside since then. A bit of a dip just as the schools broke up, of course, but still great on average. I actually seem to like hot weather more as I get older.

However, it's rubbish for the garden and very worrying for the long term really. It's also very erratic. It either seems to be horribly wet/windy/stormy (last year) or a drought and heatwave (this year) and nothing inbetween.

BobnLen · 13/08/2025 09:36

Yes, we are in our caravan, east of the Pennines and its lovely, forecast is good all week. Little bit hot today so heading up the hills

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 13/08/2025 09:36

Yes its been great. Last year was awful.

I want another like 2018 as it was hot for weeks.

RedPony1 · 13/08/2025 09:39

It's the worst/hardest summer i've had for years. The fields are scorched, the horses hate the ridiculously hot weather and forage yield is down which means prices are up.

Walking the dog and exercising the horses needs to be done very early or very late in the days which makes my days super long and stressful!

I'm doing a rain dance.

I am currently suffering with 40+ itchy spots caused by a fungal infection exacerbated by the heat. Am menopausal and am barely able to leave the house in this. And in our holiday a fortnight ago got caught up in a wildfire which meant we had to stay overnight at a hotel as we couldn't get back to our holiday accommodation.

Am in London and seriously looking at Wales/N Scotland for next year.

My teens are struggling in it too but their rooms are in the loft.

Younger me would have loved this, older me worries about the planet burning, my health and risk to my job due to poor performance when suffering

Edited

Wales is a great place to escape the heat. Often when we are holidaying there I see that home (London) is some stupid upper 30’s temperature and feel very happy not to be there. Sadly not in Wales this week and it’s getting too hot. Check out the aircon in your nearest supermarket!

WitchesofPainswick · 13/08/2025 09:44

I keep thinking this! Yes it is too hot on occasion but the lovely blue skies and sunshine have been SO cheering. We've had a few summers where it's got to September with everyone grumpy and feeling deprived - not this year, and I'm very happy about it! Glorious!

CloudPop · 13/08/2025 09:45

Yes I agree, it’s been the first actual decent summer we’ve had for years. Loving it

MferMonsterSearchingForRedemption · 13/08/2025 09:46

It is beautiful. It's going to get up to 30c here today.

I have a short day at work, so have the afternoon to sit in the sun and read, which is one of my favourite things to do.

I'm happy that we got a good summer this year.

BadActingParsley · 13/08/2025 09:48

Yes, it's been great and I'm kicking myself for not having gone to a 4 day week this year instead of starting in March next year.

I'm north west so it's not been as hot or amazing as elsewhere, but I've been able to wear shorts fairly reliably this year, and dresses and sandals whereas the last 2 years have felt like endless winter apart from a couple of nice months earlier in the year.

It doesn't half buck your mood up being able to have a cup of tea in the garden in the morning before work in the warm and being able to eat dinner outside in the evening.

ilovesooty · 13/08/2025 09:49

It's lovely. I wish it could be like this all the time.

mrsm43s · 13/08/2025 09:50

I'm in the SE. May - June was gorgeous, early July good, but mid July until a few days ago has been grotty, cool, raining and overcast. So happy to see the sun back out again and the temperatures back to Summery levels.

Longer term, of course global warming is a concern, but sitting around inside with a face like a wet weekend whinging about the heat won't stop global warming. What will stop it is different behaviours, which we should all be adopting, of course. Going about daily life is so much nicer in the warm and the dry than in the wet and the cold, and the good weather enables so many free, outdoor activities to the poorer families who can't afford to spend a fortune on indoor organised activities over the long summer holidays.

BIossomtoes · 13/08/2025 09:50

Beautiful, beautiful summer. I’m loving every minute of it.

Vintagenow · 13/08/2025 09:55

I'm in Scotland and we have had a steady 20c, more or less, and zero rain for months, going back to March. 27c today! Never known a summer like it. We usually get a couple of hot days and then it's over. I've been out in the garden at 7am every morning and often read out there in the evenings till sundown. I chose the right year to stay home for my holidays.

HarperStern · 13/08/2025 09:58

I agree, I live in a seaside resort and it's been lovely not having to feel sorry for the holidaymakers trapped in their caravans listening to rain hammering on the roof. I don't really want it any hotter though.

Don’t be so flippant. It looks like mass volumes of displaced people, war, water and food shortages and civil unrest. You think food is expensive now? We’re in the foothills now, it’s just starting off.

I was being lighthearted.

twistyizzy · 13/08/2025 10:00

Not a good summer if you have livestock. Food prices will rise as there is a shortage of nearly everything, yields are down and shortage of hay/straw etc.

heldinadream · 13/08/2025 10:02

Could people possibly enjoy the weather but still bear in mind that this is an absolute nightmare for farmers, firefighters, and anyone affected by fire especially currently in Spain, France, and Greece?
It comes across a bit like celebrating war because it has increased your personal profits for some reason. It's highly distasteful.
And I do hope you remember it when the food shortages really begin to bite.
I just find the celebratory tone very me me me, no-one and nothing else matters.

midgetastic · 13/08/2025 10:02

Warm? Or unreasonably hot and dry ? As a scientist working for decades in climate change this last few years is feeling like the start of the apocalypse which means I am not enjoying it at all but am scared for my children’s future

but hey - oh look it’s a bomb let’s go out to play with it

FrenchandSaunders · 13/08/2025 10:04

I usually struggle in the heat as I'm overweight and menopausal ... however I've loved this summer! Not sure why. It's so nice to just get up, put on shorts/vest top and fling open the doors and windows. We've used our garden so much this year, eating outside most nights. I realise I'm lucky that I wfh though.

It's been lovely mostly since early April .. DH has his birthday then and we were sitting by the Thames in London in the sunshine.

For the first time ever I am having to feed hay + hard feed over summer 😞 It's not good at all. Thankfully managed to secure straw and hay for winter but at 2-3 times the usual cost. Many will struggle as we know the farmer well and have a good relationship so he always prioritises us

Why can’t I just bloody enjoy it without having to fill my brain with farmers in Greece???

It's farmers in THIS country which = higher food prices for us all

Exactly. How often do we get weather like this? Barely ever and we’re not even allowed to say we enjoy it.

EchoedSilence · 13/08/2025 10:06

I forgot you are not allowed to enjoy summer on MN. It's all about the Autumn love.

DelilahMy · 13/08/2025 10:07

We are actually having a summer this year. The last 2 were just endless days of overcast cloud.

I have loved it and it has been very good for my skin. I have noticed that a lot of people look really healthy. I think it has done everyone good to have some sunshine.
